  1. I would check with your airline to see what they want to charge for Snowboards and Boots... It has become a problem with Surfboards and charges of $150 per stick each way has caused me to rent a stick as opposed to taking my own. I doubt they have charges for Skis and or Snowboards but thought checking to see before you arrive at the airport might be prudent... Outrageous Fees may make it wise to ship Fed Ex or UPS ? Let It Snow :)
  2. Whoa...some incredible speed and some even more incredible wipeouts in perfect Tubes...
  3. the work required for that course is Phenomenal...I have watched them build it each year, to bad though it is a really cool event to watch while riding up the chair...guessing they will now make slopestyle even more radical as it goes up the hill a ways as well ? Burton is also moving their Spring Championships to Vail this year... Just received my new Parka for this year and some storms have headed this way from the northwest :) Cowabunga
  4. such a Fun Wave at this size... some great clips here :) thanks to Paul Strauch
  5. Whew that Looks Sweet Shawndoggy... If the wind comes up and the whitecaps appear perhaps a Foil to save the session would be nice to have.... seems they are not all the hard to make nice to have that water in your neighborhood to keep the Moshun through the Summer :)
  6. Great to see some awesome footage of this place....out in the middle of no where :eek::eek::eek:

  13. a Mistake really... I used a canon powershot S3 IS with a 12 power zoom, cost around $300 ...aimed right at the sun full zoom and when I downloaded into photos saw this refraction in the top half of the picture? I cropped it out and walla... :) really neat being able to see a full eclipse
  14. Far Out...:) only a few clouds here in Aspen
  15. some great shots here.... enjoy :):)
  16. What Kind of Skiing ? Bumps or Groom Skiing was all Bumps in 68 till I stopped in 84 to Snowboard... It was Bumps on FIS, Ridge of Bell, Northstar, Reds, Ruthies, Copper, little nell and down to #1...skiing bumps and skiing bumps well are two different things. Carving skis on Groom is not close to what was required to ski Bumps! the Energy and reflexes needed to ski bumps is just not needed to Carve around on Modern Groom. Next year at SES try Bump Carving on Reds or maybe just the top of #6 on your plated supersticks :D video below shows what is required. Also the surface area of a snowboard does not allow one to penetrate the Pow like a pair of skis...I know from my own experience that this is true...having ridden Pow extensively on both types of equipment over 40 years here in Colorado, and while floating around on the surface is sweet :) having only your head and hands visible while charging down last dollar was a whole different animal  This year the numbers for the Industry are off, because the Snow did not happen for most of the areas...and what I have noticed over the years is that a negative snow year leads to stories like the one that started this thread...:o http://youtu.be/8ZKbMW6JMJg
  17. well we started our Kids Skiing because there were no snowboards :) then when they put the metal edges on and the grooming machines started layin down carpet...well I took them surfin on the mountain with me :) and then I taught them to Skateboard as well as Surf in the ocean on our vacations by the sea... they never went back to Skis nor did I :) I had Knee surgery and major shin bang while skiing all those years... then again it was just bump bashin all day long when the Pow was gone Kids are Cool no matter what they Ride :)
  18. Good times and Bad times economically would be the first place to look.... for years the middle class could actually afford to take the family skiing...that is no longer the case. Many of todays college age kids are strapped to a mountain of debt for their college educations as well... I would be surprised if there was any growth under the current scenario and expect more and more areas to go out of business over the coming decades. whether skiing or boarding, a family vacation to the mountains with Transportation, Equipment, Clothing Housing, Food and lift tickets is now squarely out of the price range for 95% of american households...
  19. Hey Borderboy! :) Like you Skating was the key that kept the surf alive even when it was flat as a pancake... from 1959 with metal wheels to the Beautiful stick from Andrea last year...what a ride, Not to much anymore though as the asphalt is hard! :D stoked you have a new SUP rig ! Enjoy my Friend and yes We Are Old School...Real Old School take care and much Aloha
