  1. As one of the few softbooters here and coming from the Pacific Northwest late in 80's to early 90's, cutting tips and tails was common practice. We could cut down Burtons and Libs all the time. Libs were easy as there wasn't much meat on the tip and tail to speak of. It was all plastic as most cores stopped just before the end of the camber. Burtons, you had to remove edge material and sometimes came into contact with the wood core. Heat was always the enemy so using a cutting wheel/grinder was usually only used at the very end to fix the imperfections and round things off evenly. Many Libs became Directional freerides as we would lop off the tails on blem boards. OG slalom boards with 3 strap megaflex and Kemper bindings. skill saw with a fresh blade works well for quick cuts and a sharp jig saw works well too. Lots of epoxy after. Can only speak for old decks though. I say go for it!
  2. I'm a softy carver. I go between my 164 burton custom x 2008 model and a 165 custom Donek FC wide(23.5 waist and designed with hardboots in mind I bought a couple summers ago from Big Canuck) My custom x is a jitterbug compared to my Donek. 8.5 SCR on burton to 9.5 SCR on the Donek. Also eff edge goes from 131-150 between the two boards. BIG difference. I love them both dearly I'm scared to go to a different freestyle board when my custom x does and she is fading fast with delam. Here is a snipet I posted a few weeks ago on the Donek in softies.
  3. all I can Say is the lack of snow and warm temps made for HERO corn today. The new grooming machines Mt High bought this summer and whatever instruction they were given have made for great conditions. Laying out turns on Freefall until my legs and back gave out today. Low tide prevails and I was glad I snuck in two days this past week/weekend. Not sure how long it will last but it was good...
  4. Going up early and getting it done... Before it's all gone. I think old man Winter died...
  5. Rode at Mt High. Snow was good for corn. Never got too slushy and was carve-able all day! Last weekend of the month in Mammy pray for snow. You have fun boats at size 13. You should consider trades for this board. Might fetch you a complete setup.
  6. Conditions are terrible. Let's ride. Bringing my girlfriend and riding with 2 instructors
  7. Mountain High it is. Thanks to Bryan www.oldsnowboards.com, I got a fresh pair of td-2's and an extra board kit. So I will be dabbling in the hardboot arena with some semi new gear. Going to try the new Donek. I know conditions suck right now but is anyone other than George S. and I riding at all?
  8. At least you have snow. West coast south of Oregon is in drought. I think the farmers almanac lied. It has let me down for sure. I would love to exchange my Mammoth pass for SES. $800 would come in handy right now for a trip to somewhere with snow. 82 degrees here in So Cal.
  9. ^ saw an employee over the new year at June riding a Rossi Undertaker. I thought "nice board" then realized it was frozen granular/ man made crap and then thought even less of the guy riding it...
  10. ^ sound advice... I'm planning on riding This Friday at Summit. I have a nice softy carver that is friendly enough (but will serve you up a new arse if you forget its a carving board) for you to try. I also have a $200 special of you want to try. Hit me up 31 zero 2 four 5 7291 Lance also, Terry is a pro patroller up there and rides hardboots
  11. I got my weekend stolen from me by my work. So I am taking Friday. With half off for season pass holders and great snow making, summit might be the call. Anyone interested in going? How about a carpool? Leaving from OC
  12. Assess/SNES anybody? Really like riding in a carving pack! Probably can't make assess if it happens and SNES probably won't since winter decided to skip us here in So Cal. My vote for SNES is March 22/23.
  13. It was yesterday. Really wanted to but couldn't find someone to watch my kids. I got something better than gold though. My son had a great breakthrough in his riding and I couldn't be happier!
  14. Right after FIN makes a softboot binding to go on. Td3 baseplate... Please?
  15. Next Saturday is USASA at Mt High. Slalom and Giant Slalom. Anyone want to watch the kids so Dad can race??? I will figure it out I hope. Only weekend I can do is 1/18-1/19 or 2/1-2/2. I prefer Mt High as its just closer and easier. What about SNES??? 3/23-3/24??? Lets ride!
  16. Have not been for a week so not sure. Coverage was great on Freefall and Headwall so I was happy. Going up with the kids I think on Sunday. I'll let you know. Miss you on the hill! Did you find homes for all your gear. That kessler was nice...
  17. My girlfriend took a spin down Matterhorn and shredded her base. Much more accurate reporting. I tend to generalize. Really need winter to kick in here on the West Coast. farmers almanac says wet... Let's see some low temps and precip!
  18. It was carve-able but a bit crusty. Freezing temps are all over the place. local mountains are far better than the rock gardens up at Mammoth and June. Never rode J7. Stayed below to preserve my base and edges.
  19. Softies on the boo! Thanks Kurt. Love this board. Excited to have Sean build one for me this summer. This board works for me
  20. Shifting my weight from tip to tail. Helps me so much when I focus on this. Also looking uphill heelside... Its the little things... Oh and the stinkbug on toeside...
  21. Wish you would. Maybe if we had it at Mountain High, you could actually attend...
  22. Terry, your vote doesn't count. Although you are there, you never attend:confused:
