  1. Bomber Community, Yesterday my house was broken into for the first time in almost 10 years. It looks to be the work of punks looking for cash. They busted open a small fire safe with nothing in it but passports and papers. They did not steal stuff like nice tools or TV's. They did take one camera, Ipod, and...my Prior 4WD 174 that was inside of a black BOMBER bag. The board did not have any bindings on it and was right next to a Hot Blast with bindings. Maybe they thought the Prior was easier to ride? Please be on the lookout for this board in the Seattle area Ebay, Craigslist, or on the Bomber forum. I have also provided the police with this photo. And if I see a punk trying to carve it at my local hill
  2. I am coming over there next year. Just make sure and post the dates early!
  3. For every deep carve I do, I usually get one big smile! :)
  4. Is this the regular or the wide model?
  5. Jon, That is great news that you are ready to go again, at least for a little while. I will be at Skyline 8:45 this Sunday on the 178 Hot Blast.
  6. I suggest trying to get a grade 8 bolt or other aircraft grade equivalent. Not sure what Burton uses but it was obviously not strong enough.
  7. Got into some of this today by late morning in a few sunny places. I discovered pretty quickly that aggressive carves just washed out so I surfed it almost like powder. Weight back and easy soft short carves. I was thinking that a short slalom board might be good for this, certainly better then the Hot 178 GS I was on. Right when stuff was just starting to go soft I cut the deepest trenches of my life. I mean it looked like someone plowed the mountain and I could still see my trenches two lifts over.
  8. John-Try moving your heel sole block slightly so that the pin is more centered in the hole of the receiver.
  9. Your system will require a very stiff boot to handle the lateral forces, stiffer then todays boots. I agree with Jack, they look very prone to getting full of snow/ice when you walk.
  10. Becoming a decent carver involves an understanding of engineering, math. and physics. If we can apply some of these skills into a fun passionate hobby like carving it is no wonder that we have a high percentage of members from this field.
  11. Well...you can practice a heelside turn on one run and then a toeside turn on the second run.
  12. So this morning two of us were ripping trenches into the groom and after an hour had the lifty guy say "There is a skier complaining about you guys taking up the whole mountain. He asked me to talk to you guys about it" Now this was on a Tuesday morning with a handful of people on the mountain. Lots of wide open and empty slopes. I replied to the lifty "Did he say we were unsafe?" Reply was "No". So then I said "I paid the same for my lift ticket as he did" and kept on taking up the whole mountain. :) The lift guy seemed to think it was funny that a skier complained to him about us carving.
  13. How very true! I will try and stay in the engineer group and out of the flaming group. Perhaps when you register you could choose which group you want to be in? Alaskan R-Always great to see innovation in any sport. If you have an idea for a better mousetrap then build it, test it, refine it, etc. The American dream.
  14. I work with composites everyday as part of my job and have over 25 years of experience with these materials. Since owning modern plastic hard snowboard boots I too have wondered how to make a better mousetrap that would be stiffer and less bulky. Definitely achievable as some of these examples show however the complexity of the tooling to manufacture composite boots at a reasonable cost is challenging. Tooling intensive project with limited sales means you need to put much of the development costs into each pair you sell.
  15. I smell a barter-brakes for board
  16. Whistler gets started at 8:30 and they have a "First Tracks" lift ticket that starts even earlier. Good option for a morning carver. My hill publishes an opening time of 9 AM but unless there is a big dump that requires them to be blasting they usually let us up at 8:45. I really wish that for night boarding they did a late day grooming on a couple of runs. :)
  17. Saw my first ever Skwal today at my local mountain. Real nice guy and he was carving some nice turns, very similar to mine. Impressive stuff! Call it what you want but he was definitely carving.
  18. Someone please buy this, so I don't have to contemplate taking out a second mortgage. ;)
  19. Love that mountain. Have been there twice on softies but need to get over that way and test out my carving ability. Have to save my vacation days for other events this year :(
  20. Short enough to get it around, but with a 10 meter SCR it will allow you to get a true carving experience. Took me a bit to get my stance, setback, angles, and lift figured out but I can still remember that day getting several linked turns with perfect arcs Took that experience onto the Hot Blast 178 and now it is hard to go back. I feel the need, the need for speed!
  21. It was great to meet up with you and everyone else for an awesome day at Crystal. My legs were still a bit tired the next morning which is saying something since I already have 25+ days in this season! Let me know if you are up at Stevens this season.
  22. +1 on this comment. After just one time on that 185 the experience really opened up my mind on what you can do on a carving snowboard. I felt the force!
  23. Took that 185 out this morning and right away I was ripping and carving. I loved the edge hold and had some really nice heel side with no washout, something that has been an issue for me on shorter boards. Super stable also which helps my confidence. This board was so long that it got started at constantly at the lift :)
