  1. http://www.medcareproducts.com/castcovers/default.asp This just pulls over the cast and seals around the leg. No more tape and plastic bags. I was so tired of ripping hair out atfer every shower. It really works. :biggthump
  2. I just broke my tibia two weeks ago. The other end, but after the cast went on, showering became a MAJOR PITA! Plastic bags and tape, followed by ripping the hair out. A friend recommended this: http://www.medcareproducts.com/castcovers/default.asp It works like a dream. Really great.
  3. Not a single mention of snowboard. Even the Stainless steel accents on the torch were inspired by the edges of a ski or a skate blade.
  4. The History Channel has a show titled Modern Marvels : Winter Tech. Looks interesting. Saw some stuff about grooming at Whistler. Tonight at 12pm eastern time. http://www.history.com/content/modernmarvels/upcoming-episodes
  5. I was wondering about it. I have never seen another like it (on the snow or BOL) in the short time I have been riding it. I like it.
  6. Monkeyfarm, You mentioned that your arches hurt. How do your boots fit? Do you have to crank down really hard to try to stop heel lift? I have boots that started out too big. I tried cranking down really hard on the first two buckles on the bottom shell. My feet were screaming and I could not concentrate on riding. It went away when I loosened the buckles. But then I had heel lift. I went to a boot fitter (second time) and added volume under the heel and foam on both sides of the liner to grab my Achilles tendon. Now the boots are tight. My toes just rub the front of the liner when standing straight and no heel lift. Now I can concentrate on other things.
  7. I just started riding an alpine board in December '09. I had the same issue with my front leg burning. I was advised to add toe lift and it did the trick. http://www.bomberonline.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=27403 I had started out with just heel lift and a pretty flat front binding. The toe lift was like magic for me. I started on a Burton AMP 5.3 but switched to a SIMS Premium 167. I thought I would have a hard time with the length, ( I'm 5'7 and about 135#) but it's been fine. It just seems that I have to be really moving quite fast to get the edge to lock in. But when it does, it is so cool...
  8. I have not really had a chance to dial it in. I think I need about 20 degrees of heel lift on the back though. http://www.bomberonline.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=26394
  9. Quigley, I have that very board. It's not for sale, but since you have worn yours out, I thought you might have some info on it. I got mine used last year and know nothing about it. What year is it? What was it designed for? I am just starting out on it. It seemed totally intimidating at first, but I seem to be getting it. Till I broke my ankle on it. Eric
  10. This could fall into many different headings, ankle injuries, Soft Bindings, Carpet Carving... I asked the nurse to fiberglass the Intec heel into the cast, but she would not play along! I could not get into the bindings in less than 10 seconds to get the shot. Might have an issue with cold toes though.
  11. Hey! Design is an iterative process. Sometimes you have to step away from the computer and make the part. Look at it and move on to the next area. It does not all spill out as a complete product! Ace, how many iterations do you have so far?
  12. Good thing I have skateboards at work!
  13. Nick, I have been riding a SIMS 167. I was not sure that I could do it at first, but its not bad. It was not as hard to turn as it seemed. I also have a Burton AMP 5.3. Its a bit wider. 22.2cm waist. The SIMS is 18.1cm. Let me know. emorris AT vonmorris DOT com
  14. I was coming across on the toeside and crossed over to heel and the nose dug in. The board spun around under me and my body didn't. Next thing I knew I was head first down the mountain. Happened on Razor's Edge. Did you get boots yet? If you want to borrow a board, I have some that I won't be on again this year.
  15. I used to have issues with sciatica, drop foot, numbness, etc. It was the L4-L5 area. Pretty much hurt every day. Neurologist suggested surgery. I never had it done. I am lucky enough to spend a significant amount of time in China. I started going to a Chinese doctor who practices something called TUI NA. It is like Chinese Chiropractic. She started by going down my spine, disk by disk, pressing lightly with her finger tips on either side of the spine. There must be points there. When she gets to a vertebra that is out of line, it feels like she is pushing with all her might and hurts. Somehow she can feel that its out of line before I tell her. After she has checked the whole spine and made notes on my back (on the skin with a felt tip) she starts manipulating the vertebra, hips, legs to put things back. It took some months because as careful as I was after the treatment, sometimes things would just pop out. She said it was like the disk takes a set and it needs to re-adjust to the new (correct) position of the bones. For the past three years I have seldom had any back pain, and then just for a day or two. Usually after something like 20 hour plane rides, falling from a skate board or something. One weird thing was that fixing the L4-L5 area messed up L3. That has nerves that go to the knees and bladder. I went to an orthopedist who took all kinds of x-rays. He stated: "The knees are fine. There is nothing there. Sometimes our bodies just have pain. You have to live with it." WHAT THE F??? I went back to see the doctor in China and in about a month of treatments every few days, the knees are better too. If you look up Tui Na and TCM on Google you should be able to find someone. Be sure to let them know that you want bones manipulated. Some places say Tui Na, and really only offer massage for soft tissue. Try to find someone who indicates that they are from a large city hospital in China. Nanjing, Beijing, Shanghai. If anyone would like help, I am fluent in Chinese. I would be willing to call and talk to the practitioner to help with communication or vetting them. Eric
  16. Jesse, Thanks for the vibes!!! This sucks, but at least I was having fun when I did it! I guess this rules out ECES this year. I was really looking forward to that. Eric
  17. I just broke my right tibia today on a toeside carve. Nose dug in and spun the board 180. I think at the start of the ensuing commotion my upper body did not follow the board. culd not tolerate having my back foot in the binding so I popped it out. Really cranked down the upper buckles and tried stepping in again. No dice. Ski patrol towed me down (a snowboarder!). The x-ray shows a break about halfway through the medial malleolus. Doctor at the local hospital (figured that would be a shorter wait than an a big city hospital where you have to compete against gunshot wounds to the chest, etc) said three to six weeks, but I don't think that she meant that was the time before I could get back on a board. Still have to see an orthopedist in Philly. Loc, how long was your recovery? Does not look good for ECES :(. At least I was having fun when it happened. :)
  18. Jesse, it was really hurting when the boot came off. So I drove myself to the hospital for an x-Ray. Fractured just above the ankle. Doc said three to six weeks. But the few runs I got in were nice.
  19. Alan, I got the board, bindings, plates and heels today. All were packed securely and arrived safely. And thanks for including the extra cables too! I am really eager to get on this board. That will have to wait for tomorrow! Eric :):):):)
  20. I'm going to try to get there on Sunday as well. Last week had family obligations, but this week is open.
  21. Nick, I rode my Burton AMP 5.3 first. But I had no toe lift and my quads were burning. Then I switched to the SIMS 167 and added toe lift. I am guessing that it was the toe lift that helped. I was intimidated by the length first, but it wasn't bad. That's what I have been on since. All of four or five days. Not as intimidating as I thought. It certainly is not a board I would want to take into moguls. I should have a Prior 4X4 on Saturday. Will you be there on Saturday? You could try that if you want with the FR2's. My FR2's only have 4X4 disks so I can't mount them on the Burton. And the SIMS seems way to narrow. Only 18 wide. Eric
  22. One of these days I will get out on a week day. Right now I have to be a good example to the employees. But I did take a week over Christmas at Whistler. So now I have to make up for that. I am going to be at ECES. You? Have fun in Maine. We'll hook up after that. I was only in the low teens at the start of this season, and look at me now!!! See below. Maybe this should be posted in the Tech Article section:
  23. Hope this has a positive effect on my carving!!!
