  1. forgot to add that the meeting place will be the same if you can make it--rendezvous restaurant at 9am or 10am. will text you tomorrow morning as soon as i get off the chairlift. later doug
  2. hi GTANNER et al i'm shocked!! the whistler forecast last night was accurate for once lol. just checked the whistler snow report a few minutes ago and no new snow overnite...cool and sunny (like SONNY STITT) tomorrow morning so it should be nice firm corduroy. hopefully you won't have any family obligations tomorrow and can join me for some turns. i've been waiting for this type of snow condition for the last 2 weeks to try out the 2012 carbon silberpfeil and despite catching a slight cold today i am going to take a contact-c and wake up at 4 am to apply a heat pack to my shoulder for at least 3 hours tomorrow morning in order to give myself every possible advantage to have an awesome carving day. i've been riding very conservatively the last few days to avoid re-injuring my shoulder but tomorrow i'm bringin' it. if i reinjure the shoulder i can't think of any better snow conditions to do it in. hope to see you tomorrow. later doug
  3. great riding with everyone yesterday. GTANNER said he was going to monitor snow conditions before making a definite decision to ride on any particular day--sounds good since we had to suffer through deep powder on the 18th and just enough snow on the 20th make it a bit bumpy (i hope the east coast guys aren't reading this and comment about a west coast a**hole complaining about too much snow.) i just checked the weather report. up to 10 cm tonight and up to 5cm tomorrow so wednesday will be a powder day--poor carving conditions. however thursday will be great no snow the night before and it will be sunny--hero conditions. so i am revising my original plan of riding on the 22nd and 24th to riding on the 23rd and 25th instead. see you guys up there on the 23rd--conditions will probably be the best so far this year for hero corduroy.
  4. both GTANNER and i were late getting up the mountain. with close to a foot of fresh powder the gondola lines were just packed. neither of us got up to the roundhouse until about 10am which probably caused us to fail to meet up with both PATRICK and CHARLIE. hope you guys enjoyed all the powder--we certainly did. by monday all this powder will be nicely packed over 2 days of grooming. monday morning should be epic corduroy as there is negligible snow forecast until then. hence the decision to hit all the fall-line groomers (springboard, gandy dancer, cruiser etc.) on blackcomb just off the rendezvous restaurant early in the morning. looking forward to riding with everyone again.
  5. if this was the board: then it was DAVID. if not then it was probably JOON who is a korean racer who usually rides an SG slalom board and occasionally an f2. however he races on a kessler. i think both DAVID and JOON ride f2 race ti step in bindings. hope that helps you id them. maybe you can recruit young JOON for your team. both are cool and speak good english. unlike most alpine riders i meet they never look down their noses at my burton raceplates or burton alpine boards whenever i bump into them at grouse lol.
  6. hi CHARLIE i am meeting GORD on whistler near the ROUNDHOUSE (not rendezvous) restaurant around 10am tomorrow. i think PATRICK is doing the same. my email isn't enabled but GTANNER and BLUEB's are so you can email them for my cellphone number if you need it--otherwise i will be warming up on the emerald chair prior to meeting up with GORD. you can grab me as i get off at the top of the emerald chair anytime between 9 and 10am. you will have no trouble identifying me--just look for heavily duct tape gloves! even the dirtiest of the dirty dirtbag lifties up there prostrate themselves in awe when they see my gloves. GORD and PATRICK have decided to ride their softboots. i'll wait until tomorrow morning to decide. if we get more than a foot of snow then i will be on a blue supermodel with softboots. if less a foot then on either a green 4wd or red alp with hardboots. hope you can join us tomorrow. time to go wax my boards and get a good night's sleep. later doug
  7. hi PIUSTHEDRCARVE just got an email from DAVE at YYZCANUCK. f2 does not allow the outermost holes to be used. just so i don't screw up the relaying of very important information, these are his exact words: Doug... This is Dave. NO, those holes are NOT to be used. ONLY the inside holes as the bindings came assembled.Regards, Dave bummer! now i will have to go back to my original plan of only using them maxed out by my size 26 boots on boards that are drilled to my exact stance width so i can mount the mounting disks east-west instead of north south to slide them toward the toeside. no comment was made about the partially exposed t-nut so i guess f2 feels that it poses no threat to the topsheet. i haven't ridden it yet as i got it the same time as the 2012 bindings. just by hand flexing it it feels the same as the 2011 model. so if it rides at least as well as the 2011 model then i will be happy. the only difference appears to be the 2012 graphics. the snow coverage is getting thin on the local vancouver mountains so i don't want to risk hitting a rock so i'll bring it up to whistler this weekend and ride it with my older bindings as i won't be able to use the 2012 size smalls since the inserts are not drilled at my desired stance width so i need to mount my 2011 or 2010 bindings which have a greater adjustment range for centering. will let you know how the 2012 carbon silberpfeil handles next week after giving it a few rides.
  8. hi BOBDEA during the grouse mountain 24 hour event on feb 11/12th i went up at 4:30 am to avoid the crowd. when i went in for a meal at 7am there was only breakfast food available so i was able to try out a breakfast wrap along with a morning coffee. from what i recall there was eggs, bacon, ham, cheddar cheese, green onions and and some tasty spices. didn't know what exactly was in it but it eats good. as i was driving home my shoulder started hurting so i had to take a short rest to stretch my shoulder outside in a mcdonald's parking lot. here's an additional pic of a mcdonald's chicken wrap that i had before resuming my drive home. the only difference between the white packaged one and the yellow packaged one was one was grilled and the other was crispy. only 2 for $3.98! normally i take the bus to grouse to save my shoulder and to avoid the long walk to the gondola from the parking lot but there was no bus service at 4 am to grouse so i had to drive my car--at least i got to eat an extra wrap for my troubles lol. i can't recall what was in the wrap but it tasted pretty bland--not nearly as good as the grouse mountain wraps but thankfully it only cost about a quarter as much.
  9. HI PIUSDRCARVE oh crap. my post was so long that you already figured it out before i finished lol. i'll just leave my post intact in case someone else needs this info. the only other thing i can suggest is to find out if the 2012 medium plates are drilled with 2 sets of holes and can be used with large bails?
  10. hi PIUSTHEDRCARVE the conventional wisdom is to go with the smallest possible bindings because they are stiffer--UNLESS YOU RIDE UPZ BOOTS! heed TEACHES' advice carefully. from your description it appears that you will not be able to centre your boots with the mediums. even if you enlarged the toe bail spacing to 0 cm from the largest outer limit and moved the heel bail to 2 cm from the largest setting from your current setting of 1cm toe and heel respectively you still would still be almost a cm away from the center of your binding (towards the heelside.) on my size 26 upz boots my centering mark is about 1.5 to 1.75 cm from the true centre (towards the heelside.) with your larger size 28 UPZ boot your problem worsens as this distance will increase. i am assuming you ride with your boots centered in the binding and that you don't deliberately set your bindings with significant heelside bias. i am assuming that the 2012 f2 medium and large bindings are unchanged from 2011 in that they only have one set of holes drilled at each end of the baseplate. i just got my new 2012 size small f2 race titaniums today and noticed 2 extra sets of holes on the baseplate. originally, i just bought them for the extra stiffness to use with boards where my desired stance width exactly matched the insert placement. as my size 26 boots is at the largest setting for the size smalls there is no chance to move the heel further in and the toe further out. the only way to centre the upz boot would be to mount the binding disks east-west instead of north-south so i could slide them towards the toeside. this maybe an option for you if your board's inserts are drilled at your correct stance width. however, since i got some extra holes in the 2012 size small baseplates i am going to use them after i get the okay from f2 (after i finish this post i am going to send an email to ANDREA at YYZCANUCK to get f2's permission to do so.) you can leave this thread now as i am about to go off at a tangent. if you are still interested in the extra holes on the 2012 version of the size small f2 bindings then read on: the size small bindings were shipped from the f2 factory via their canadian distributor with the toe/heel pieces mounted at their smallest positions (the inner most sets of baseplate holes.) when i removed the toe piece to move it to the outmost baseplate hole i notice an aluminum bushing (non-removeable/permantly mounted?) inside the mounting hole--this is new for 2012 as the bushing wasn't present in my 2011 or 2010 size medium race titaniums. the unused outer holes on my 2012 size smalls appear to be exactly the same (shape and dimension) as the holes of my 2011 and 2010 size mediums so i assume they are fully functional without the new aluminum bushings (barely visible in the first photo.) now with my toe piece mounted on the outermost holes and my heel piece unchanged from the factory setting of the inner holes my binding is thankfully offset towards the toeside by the distance evident in the above photo and i can still get more centering by minimizing the heel sizing and maximizing the toe sizing--because moving the toe piece out (and leaving the heel piece as is) effectively increased the size of the binding (and hence their adjustable range!) so much so that i can get to the exact center of the UPZ boot! something that i was unable to do with the size mediums of previous years and had to live with the mild case of heelside bias. hooray for now as i hope that i don't find out from the dealer that we are not allowed to use the outermost holes and that they are only there because they used the same baseplate as the pre2012 size mediums. the one glaring reason i can see for f2 nixing the use of the outermost holes is that the lifts and bail platforms would extend beyond the baseplate. i may do it anyway (and forfeit the warranty) since it looks pretty solid to me when i inspect it visually and flex it by hand. this coming from someone who has made some weird binding modifications over the years (duct tape, skateboard bushings, cutting board, nylon washers etc.) in other words do so at your own risk and DON'T SUE THE SNOWBOARD COMPANIES IF YOU FCUK UP AND HURT YOURSELF! the one glaring reason i can see f2 allowing the use of the outermost holes is the situation is unchanged from prior to 2012. if you look at the photo of the rubber foot with the bail platforms mounted in the innermost holes (the default 2012 f2 factory settngs) you will notice that part of the t-nut holding the bail platforms is exposed! i assume this is ok with f2 since that is how they are shipping them out of the factory and they actually enclose a separate piece of paper warning that the rubber boots must be in place or they wouldn't be responsible for topsheet damage. if you used the outermost holes like i did with my 2012 size smalls then the rubber foot completely covers the t-nut (exactly like it did in 2011 and earlier.) i have yet to try using the bail platforms from my 2011 and 2010 bindings which are smaller than the platfoms on the size small bindings (yes that is correct--the 2012 size smalls use the LARGE platforms.) the size MEDIUM bail platforms on the pre-2012 platforms would completely eliminate the problem of the bail platforms overhanging the baseplate when using the outermost holes on the 2012 size small baseplates but you might not be able to shift both bails toward the toe side as much as you could with large bail platforms. hopefully i can still get enough toeside shift using the smaller pre-2012 size medium bail platform to eliminate the baseplate overhang. again assuming i am allowed to use the outermost hole in the first place. btw as a precaution i covered up the exposed part of the t-nut with duct tape when using the f2 factory settings as shown in the photo. i guess the fact that f2 ships their bindings like this gives tacit approval for leaving the part of the t-nut exposed beyond the rubber foot--unless the 2012 rubber boot was redesigned to reach farther towards the mounting disk to completely cover the t-nut and that i got shipped the wrong rubber feet by mistake. p.s. sorry for the crappy cellphone photos as i am about 3 hours away from my camera. will post better photos later if and only if requested.
  11. feb 4 my 5th trip to grouse mountain i basically just went to meet up with my friend and bomberonline member RUWI for lunch as i was tired from riding the night before. i only took about 3 runs and then headed in for lunch as my bum shoulder was hurting from a lack of recuperative time and RUWI's feet were hurting. RUWI's new boot liners actually cut his foot as it was bleeding when he took off his boot--he ended up driving home barefooted. hope he didn't get blood all over the floor mats of his land rover lol. i had a falafel wrap, french fries ((the POUND size (yeah it looks big even in the photo lol) as i skipped my mid-morning coffee and muffin)) and a green tea. hope you can tell what's in it from the photos: there were too many ingredients to list or identify...chick peas, lettuce, tomatoes, zuchini or cucumbers, onions, some sort of deepfried stuff etc. don't know what's in it but it eats good.
  12. on feb 3 my fourth trip to grouse mountain i had the turkey bacon wrap and a green tea. i skipped the fries as i had eaten a big muffin on a coffee break about an hour earlier. this wrap was quite filling. it was so densely packed that it literally exploded when i bit into it. in addition to the turkey bacon there was lots of lettuce and a few other good tasting spices i couldn't identify. don't know what's in it but it eats good.
  13. on jan 12th my third trip to grouse mountain i had the meatball sub, french fries and a green tea. hope you can tell what was in it from the photos: from what i recall it was meat sauce with lots of shredded mozzarella cheese. don't know what was in it but it eats good.
  14. hi BOBDEA great thread. in addition to what people wish for maybe what people are currently ordering would also give you some meaningful information. my eurocarve injured shoulder has prevented me from boarding a lot this year. since i have to do so many elaborate warmup exercises i tend to stay on the hill for as long as possible (about 6 or 7 hours) which means i have to eat a fairly nourishing meal in addition to my hydration breaks when i grab a bagel or a muffin. although i am a season passholder at grouse i have only been there 5 times this year--that number would have been even less if the food wasn't so great at grouse. i always eat at the cafeteria which benefits from trickle down from the 5 star OBSERVATORY restaurant located upstairs in the grouse chalet. i didn't see your post until after december 13 which was my first trip to grouse this year so i'll post photos of the meal i had on my 4 subsequent visits on jan 10, jan 12, feb 3 and feb 4. on december 13th i had a pulled pork wrap but didn't take a photo since your thread hadn't started yet. on jan 10th i had the ITALIAN PANINI, french fries and a green tea. hope you can tell what's in it from the photos: from what i recall it was prosciutto with tomato slices, spinach and a bunch of spices and some type of garlic tasting sauce. don't know what's in it but it eats good!
  15. seems like the 20th is the day with potentially the biggest turnout. BLUEB and CARVINGSCOOBY can probably only make it that day. PO6781 can make that day. GTANNER and i can also make that day. so that's a minimum of 5 confirmed/confirmables before contacting more potentials such as CHRIS PRIOR, C5GOLFER, PAN and the balance of the vancouver crew. can CHARLIECHOCOLATE please confirm (on this thread) if you can definitely make it on the 18th? GTANNER is riding on the 17th and probably the 18th. i am sure that he will be extra motivated to ride 2 days in a row (17th and 18th) if you can confirm on the 18th. i will also be there on the 18th so that's at least 3 people that day. CHRIS PRIOR usually only rides on weekday mornings but i'll ask him anyway to see if he can make an exception for saturday the 18th. my email is disabled but you can email either BLUEB or CARVINGSCOOBY or GTANNER and they can give you my email and cellphone number. hope to see you on the 18th. in addition to the 18th and 20th i will also be riding on the 22nd and 24th and 26th (my bum shoulder and advancing age won't let me ride on consecutive days anymore) so if any of you are still around on those days then let me know to meet up with you. will take the liberty of announcing on bomberonline that GTANNER will be entering the BX race on hardboots on the 25th and 26th--now that the cat is out of the bag he can't chicken out. in between breaks from riding i will try to take some photos of GTANNER in the BX race on the 26th so if i can get some decent shots i will post them on this thread.
  16. hi PUDDY TAT the first photo shows the exact same grizzly 852 hangar as yours mounted onto a 20 degree smokey baseplate. contrast this with the second photo showing the same hangar mounted to the stock 52 degree grizzly plate (ignore the 7 degree wedge which kicks the front truck to a super turny 59 degrees--not very stable but quick turning and a rush when skating down cypress bowl road lol.) the extra stability of the 20 degree plate should alleviate most rider induced wobbles (usually the shaking knees of a newb when dropping into a steep hill lol.) although i top mounted the trucks you can see that there is sufficient clearance even if you wanted to mount them drop through. the third photo shows that i just top mounted the trucks onto a board with drop through cutouts for a randal style baseplate. don't worry about covering up the holes the baseplate will keep the cutout from shifting and twisting when riding hard. after you get some mileage under your belt riding top mounted you can then mount the trucks drop through style to work on your standup slides for freeriding. you will notice a decrease in traction but an increase in stability (in non-turning situations) when the trucks are mounted drop through style. since you are in edmonton you should go down to the local124 skateboard shop to learn and skate with the crew there. the 2 ringleaders are known as BIG mike and LITTLE mike. BIG mike is mike sanders the shop owner. LITTLE mike is mike G (i can't pronounce or spell his last name because there are at least 50 letters!!) these two guys are excellent skaters (both racing and freestyling.) i am sure these guys will get you sorted out in no time. tell them you know me from this forum and they will look out for you.
  17. hi GECKO i am posting this from the library. i was able to post to the fish from the library. since my ip address isn't blocked per kingston then it must be my browser settings or maybe my new computer (bought it beginning of march.) thanks for looking into this matter for me. hi PUDDY TAT i have a board with a rear bear 852 mounted on a 20 degree grizzly baseplate with a jimz adapter fitted where the spherical was removed. unfortunately i am in the city right now and that board is stored a few hours away in the valley. i will try to get a photo of it up on bomberonline before friday. that could be the answer to all your wobble woes. later doug
  18. hi GECKO i was unable to post anything on silverfish. i can log onto my account but can't access any forums. seems to hangup with the message "waiting for pixel quantserv..." flashing on the lower left corner of the firefox screen. could you crosspost this bol post onto silverfish for me? i ended up taking a lot of photos at the vernon dh this year because i wrecked my EUROCARVE DAMAGED left shoulder that was already further aggravated when i had to lay down my motorcycle 2 days earlier on thursday night. the conditions at vernon this year were great. warm and sunny with a slight tailwind which made for faster than normal conditions. on my 4th practice run i think i got overconfident--my first 3 runs went so smoothly that i figured i wasn't pushing hard enough so on my 4th run i held my tuck longer before airbraking before the hard left dubbed CRASH CORNER and got worked. the lady who owns the bed and breakfast i stayed at is also a nurse and she later confirmed what i already suspected that i shouldn't suit up on sunday. i ended up watching on the sidelines and taking over 400 photos!! here's the link to the photos of the 2011 vernon dh that took place june 11&12: http://s256.photobucket.com/albums/hh182/tenorman_bucket/vernondh2011/ i already told a lot of the racers that i would post the photos on silverfish so if you could do so at your earliest convenience i would really appreciate it. also could you email EBASIL to ask if i have somehow been banned by mistake? in addition to being unable to post i can't use their contact screen either. my username on silverfish is the same as here--tenorman. thanks
  19. hi PUDDY TAT try getting over the front truck more to offset/prevent wobbles in the first place. this is a common problem with drop through decks in that you can't really put your foot over the front truck like you can with a top mount. that being said there is no law that says you have to drop through the trucks--you can simply top mount the trucks. don't worry about the cutout--the baseplate itself will be strong enough to compensate for a bit of missing wood. that way you can dewedge the back without hangar bite. GECKO is correct that the only way to wedge/dewedge a drop through is to get a higer angle (wedge) or lower angle (dewedge) baseplate--you can typically only add about 3 or 4 wedging/dewedging washers (depending on the thickness of the deck) before the hangar gets drawn up into the cutout and strikes the underside of the deck on sharp turns. personally i have owned and ridden most of the dropped and drop through decks and i prefer the top mounts. i would rather have the carving traction of the top mount than the straight line stability of the dropped design. also ride the softest (not the hardest) bushings you can get away with for your weight. this flys in the face of conventional wisdom but the softer bushings allow you to tighten down the kingpin more. the problem with bushings that are too hard is you have to loosen the kingpin so much just to be able to turn that the kingpin starts rattling at high speeds which allow those weird oscillations to build up. obviously if the bushings are too soft then you will never be able to crank them down enough to be stable--you will likely tear or damage the bushings first from overtightening. i think a lot of wobbles are the result of too LOOSE kingpins than too SOFT bushings.
  20. hi DIVEBOMBER the guy in the yellow jacket had his head chopped off in my scan. attached is a better scan showing his face. it looks like the yellow jacketed guy is ROSS REBAGLIATI. i think the guy next to him in the red jacket is FADRI MOSCA
  21. hi DIVEBOMBER because of the 3 pics/post rule i couldn't include these pics in my previous post. the magazine was too big to fit my scanner so you will have to splice it together mentally when you look at it. also of interest is the caption of the ad is "FUN AND FAST" not "FUN AND FUNCTION" like i would have expected. wonder if that was a mistake?
  22. hi DIVEBOMBER thought you might like to see an actual board from the fall 1995/spring 1996 season. this is my f2 speedster rs 164 narrow from that year. despite the short length it has a 13 meter gs sidecut. my old board still rode great when i had it out a few weeks ago in hard near icy conditions. it's such a nice board that i am afraid to ride it more than once or twice a year since it is irreplaceable if i damage it. my newer speedsters are definitely better but i am still not getting rid of my old f2 speedsters--too many good memories lol. hope you like the juxtaposition of the new 2011 f2 titanium bindings on the old 1995/96 board. let me know if you want to see similar vintage f2 bindings (they are currently at another location about 3 hours away.) the 2011 f2 titanium bindings appear to be the same as the 2010 ones i got last year except my 2010 models have tan coloured angle markers while my new 2011 have black ones.
  23. hi GTANNER i just saw your post a few minutes ago. i emailed BLUEB and CARVINGSCOOBY about going to whistler next week (anytime after feb 18 or 19 is good for me.) if that's not possible i guess cypress would be plan B. i'll let BLUEB answer for the locals as he has the most immutable schedule (shares child rearing duties with his wife.) later doug
  24. hi MYKCUZ i think i better take a couple of weeks to get my bomberonline affairs in order before i answer this one. if i get banned i won't be able to answer all those other 10 or 15 on topic hardboot carving posts that i promised BORIS i would get to lol.
  25. hi MYKCUZ that’s interesting about the perpetual welfare state which in some poorer areas probably comprises the largest voting block in the district lol. however logic would dictate that desegregation and equal rights amendments would suggest that as more opportunities are made available to black people the percentage of blacks gainfully employed increases. wouldn’t this imply that the black percentage of the institutionalized welfare voting block is decreasing not increasing? in other words the institutionalized welfare voting block is getting whiter not blacker? in that context how is it a form of racism (against black people?)
