  1. I had a much better day on the slopes today than last Wednesday... lots of the stuff you guys told me last season is coming back, and I feel like I've forgotten some of my bad habits and can start replacing them with good ones. I was working a lot today on getting the board higher on edge, which worked pretty well most of the time. I felt like I was getting a lot lower in the turns than I had in the past, and my tracks in the snow looked really clean. I practiced at lower speeds to work on balance too, which seemed to help but also led to some awesomely embarrassing falls just outside the lift line as I tried to get one more good carve in and ran out of speed. The problems seemed to happen at higher speeds, especially on heelside. I could make nice turns, but when I tried to crank them tighter by tilting the board more, I'd wash out. Any ideas why that might be happening? I'm posting in here rather than the main form because you guys have seen me ride and probably have a better idea what I'm doing wrong.
  2. So, for the rest of this quarter, I've only got classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I'm going to try to take advantage of this as much as I can by riding weekdays, at least until more runs open up and the crowds spread out. If anyone wants to carpool or just meet up and ride, let me know any time. I'm trying to hit at least 30 days by the end of the year.
  3. I agree... I have a much easier time with the more flexible interface of the standard setup.
  4. Glad you had a good opener Mario. I had a bbq here last night, and just wasn't going to make it out that early this morning. I'm thinking about heading up tomorrow in an effort to avoid the crowds. There were way too many jibbers on Wednesday too. Any idea when the park opens and we don't have to deal with them?
  5. I just got into road biking this summer... loving it so far. I've joined the cycling team at school, so I'm getting some pretty good workouts in. I'm actually about to head out for a ride this afternoon... weather is beautiful here.
  6. Soft boots when conditions warrant getting out the Dupraz. Riding sofites every once in a while last season seemed to help my hard boot riding by teaching me to use my ankles more. Technically, I can ride powder just as well in hard boots, possibly even better, but hard boots can never match the surfy feel of softies in the deep stuff.
  7. Jim: Awesome. Hope it all works out for you. If you're going to be passing through Denver, get in touch. BC: That's Loveland, CO with an 18" base. Apparently 18" is enough to cover the rocks, so I won't complain.
  8. Jim, you gonna make it out here this year? I don't remember if there was a definite conclusion to your thread... I meant to post this pic yesterday... none of the people in it are me.
  9. And if you don't have an internet plan on your phone, but do have text messages... http://www.google.com/mobile/default/sms/
  10. Where's the option for "Oh, Hell Yes!"? Seriously, Spinal Tap is about as good as it gets. Never seen anyone not laugh at it.
  11. YAY! So when are you going to join us at Loveland again? Better hurry, only 8 months left in the season!
  12. Happy 08-09 season everyone! I got my first run in at 8:40 this morning, made some good turns and some bad ones. For those of you in CO, hope to see you at Loveland soon. For those elsewhere, either come visit us at Loveland, or have a great season wherever you are!
  13. Yeah, I can booze it up anytime... but boiling whiskey demands a special occasion!
  14. I've got friends in town this weekend, so if I can talk them into going, I'll be there.... hell, might be there anyway, they can keep themselves busy. But I also know what I'm doing tomorrow morning!
  15. Anyone going to head up tomorrow? I had my last 2 midterms today, no class tomorrow, so I think I'm going to make the journey. Carpooling would be awesome, or if you just want to meet there, let me know. Steve
  16. Ooh, hot toddy! I'm almost looking forward to getting sick this winter so I have an excuse to spend a few days boozing it up with those.
  17. Go see Larry. It's worth the drive.
  18. 8:00 Mario? Isn't 8:00 for you about the same as noon for me? :p See you guys there. Can't wait to find out if the time I've spent on the bike is enough to keep me from looking like quite as much of an idiot as last time. Steve
  19. Any time you want to ride will probably work for me, just let me know. I'm used to getting up early these days... if I'm not out the door early, any kind of decent ride gets miserable fast. Maybe I should have learned the whole "sleep early or be miserable in the morning" thing during the winter. Anyway, let me know what works for a ride. Steve
  20. Survived Abstract Algebra, but only just barely. I'm now carrying over a gallon of water with me when I ride, so I think I've got the hydration thing under control. Let's say I learned my lesson from Apex. ATS looks pretty cool. Definitely let me know when you're going to ride it. I need to get some more practice on my mountain biking skills, but I'm getting pretty comfortable on a bike again. I probably put in 120 miles last week, and was 40 miles into a 50 mile ride yesterday when I double flatted (Another lesson learned: Carry 2 tubes and a patch kit).
  21. Anyone feel l ike riding next Saturday or Sunday? I've been putting in quite a few miles on the bike, so I think I might actually be able to keep up now. Anybody have an idea for a trail that's maybe a bit mellower than apex? Alternating between up and down more frequently and less carrying the bike through rock gardens would be fun. Oh yeah, and I picked up a camelback and some water bottles, so no need to worry about me dying of dehydration this time.
  22. Warm up and not technical? Sounds like my kind of trail. Too bad I've got to help a friend move this weekend. I may have to check this one out though.
  23. It takes a lot more than that to make me angry. I do enjoy Patron Silver though, but not so much their Reposado or Anejo. My standard tequila selection, when I could afford to keep decent stuff around, was Patron Silver, Cabo Reposado, and Sauza Tres Generaciones Anejo. I'd usually have a few others as well... Corralejo, Espolon, sometimes Reserva de la Familia. These days, Sauza Hornitos and 1800 have to do.
  24. Yeah, sipping tequila is a rare luxury these days, but any of the cheap blended stuff tends to give me a headache very quickly. I usually prefer Sauza Hornitos to Cuervo Tradicional. The 100 proof stuff just goes farther when you're mixing it... unless the person mixing the drinks doesn't adjust accordingly, then it's a recipe for a brutal hangover. I do like the Chamucos, though. Actually just had it for the first time in April. Wish I could afford to keep it around. The only time I spend the extra on something worth sipping these days is for ski trips and camping trips.
  25. Tried all those, and I agree that they're much better. However, the 1800 is the only 100 proof tequila on the market. Since I'm back in college, $50 bottles are a luxury I can't often afford. I haven't had any 100% agave tequilas I'd call piss, but maybe my standards have dropped with my budget. :D If you're a tequila fan, check out the tequila list at the restaurant where I used to cook. Not a bad selection.
