  1. I don't think I can make it out. Not getting back from Utah til late Saturday, and it's my niece's birthday Sunday. I think I've done some damage to a rib playing a game of "dodge the skiers" so I'm not sure how hard I can push myself the rest of the season. I think it's just bruised, but in any case it's a bit uncomfortable. Good news is it looks like a powder day here tomorrow and maybe again friday.
  2. Oh man, sorry to hear about the Tanker. Thanks again for meeting me with the D1. Toesides are pretty solid now on the WCR now, and I'm getting lower on it now than I've ever gotten on the Burton. Heelsides are coming together, but sometimes I get leaned over too far and can't get back up. I'll get some more practice tomorrow, I'm loving the stability of the longer board.
  3. I've been at Solitude the last 2 days, and loved it both times. Sunday was a powder day, and my first day on a Dupraz D1 (Thanks, Bola!). The D1 was amazing in powder, and still did well on the hardpack. Today, I spent some time on the WCR, trying to get used to a long board with a longer sidecut. Had a blast both days, and saw a hardbooter ripping it up today, but couldn't catch up with him. I'll be out somewhere wednesday and friday, probably Solitude at least one of those days.
  4. I'm heading out to SLC in the morning for spring break, hoping to get some good riding in. Anyone planning on being out there during the week digging trenches or surfing pow?
  5. Great, now you've got me wanting to poach Alta. :D
  6. SG makes a 125 and a 140. Full specs are on their site, but the 125 is a 18.5 waist, 6.0 SCR board, and the 140 has a 19.0 waist and 7.3 scr.
  7. Thanks for the info Chubz. From looking at the maps, Eagle lift does look promising, but it's hard for me to tell where the good carving runs are on any of them. I'll probably spend my first day at Solitude and decide how I like it from there.
  8. I've got a Giro Remedy, and I like it for the most part. I decided if I were going to get a helmet, I might as well get one with more coverage. Visibility is fine in every direction except down, so it's not usually a problem for me. No face plants since I got it, so I can't say if it's worth it, but I have a feeling I'll be glad I have it at some point. Haven't had any negative comments from jibbers, but the younger kids all seem to think it's cool.
  9. Finals are over, and spring break is here... I'm leaving for Utah for a week on Saturday, and I've got the choice between Brighton, Snowbird, or Solitude each day. Any suggestions on which resorts to hit, or which runs to take? I consider myself beginner/intermediate (depending on the day). Also, anyone in the area who might want to meet up? I'll be there with a bunch of people from school, who I'll probably only make a few runs with (no carvers among them, sadly), so it'd be great to find someone to dig some trenches with.
  10. I'm using Catek OS1s right now, but I'd like a second set of bindings so I can take a couple of boards to the hill ready to ride. I think I'll probably pick up some TD2s for next season, and figure out which binding I like best from there.
  11. Aww, Dave, now you have me thinking about the physics of it all. Just when I thought the most painful semester of my life was going to completely go to waste... Centripetal acceleration (acceleration towards the center of the circle, what we care about in this case) is described by the equation A = v^2 / r, where A is acceleration, v is velocity, and r is the radius of the turn. If we assume the radius of the turn is the same as the SCR of the board, which should be in the ballpark, pulling 1 G around a turn with a 12m radius means you're going about 24 mph. Pulling 2 G's puts you around 34 mph. Obviously there are more variables here, but that should be a ballpark estimate. I can work out the angles some time, but now is not that time. :D
  12. I'll be in Utah from (I think) the 17th to 24th. I don't really have all the details at the moment, but I should in a few days. Hoping I can run into a couple people out there.
  13. It was great to meet you guys this weekend. Thanks for all the carving advice. My skier friend said I looked about 10 times better after riding with you guys, and I definitely felt much more confident.
  14. Do you still have the lift ticket coupons? If so, I'll try to make it out there, if you don't mind a newbie tagging along. Much more than $41 is out of my price range at this point... trying to set aside a little cash for a trip to Utah before the end of the season.
  15. I'm still a relatively new hardbooter. This seems to translate to "I have no idea what the hell I'm doing on the slopes yet, but if I can remember enough of what I read on Bomber I do OK." Of course, the problem here is having time to study the forums and tech articles before I head up to the mountains, which doesn't always happen. In another thread, Inkaholic suggested a cheat sheet, and I think that's exactly what I need. If I have something quick to read through on the way up, on the lifts, and at lunch, I think I can improve my riding quite a bit. So, what would all you experienced carvers put on a cheat sheet for a beginner? What are the most important things I need to keep in mind when I hit the slopes? What were the things you tried that gave you your breakthrough?
  16. Looks like Sunday for me. Went to see Larry today and got some footbeds made, so hopefully the foot cramps are a thing of the past. Gotta throw together a cheat sheet to read on the way up, and hopefully it'll be a pretty good day.
  17. Hopefully it was on one of my good runs and not one of my bad ones.:D I had Larry mold the liners when I got the boots last month. He told me to ride on the 5 days and bring them back in for some adjustments. Saturday was day 5, so I'm going to try to get back up there next week and see what he can do. I'm pretty sure I'm not clawing my toes. I also made the mistake of not reading through all the tech articles here on Bomber before heading up, and forgot to do some of the things that had made my carving start to come together in Jackson Hole a few weeks ago, so I spent a lot more time skidding and less time carving than I was hoping to. If I'm lucky, I'll make it back to Loveland the 23rd or 24th, with as much technique info as I can find packed into my head.
  18. Sorry I missed you guys this weekend... we got up just a little late, and didn't get to the lifts til 8:45 or so. Followed some trenches around for a bit, and saw some of you guys ripping it up from the lifts. I was having some pretty severe foot cramps (back to the bootfitter, I guess) and my buddy hurt his knee, so we decided to beat traffic out of there. Hopefully I'll be up there again in a couple weeks.
  19. Looks like I'll be heading up there with a skier friend of mine... we'll be leaving arvada at around 6:30, so hopefully will be there with plenty of time before the lifts open. I'll be in a green jacket and black full face helmet... or you can just look for the only other guy on the hill with intec cables sticking out of his boots. I'm still a beginning carver, so hopefully I can keep up with you guys for a run or two and learn something. Steve
  20. Hoping to make it out there on Sunday myself... and hoping my old Alp does well enough in all this snow. Where does everyone usually meet up?
  21. It turns out I'm going to have to miss this one... scheduling conflicts can suck. Hopefully I'll get the chance to meet up with you guys on the slopes later in the season.
  22. I'm hoping to make it out there myself. If I do, it'll be my sixth day on hard boots, and my sixth day on a board since the '90s. I don't expect to keep up with any of you guys, but it'll be great to finally meet people who wear the correct type of boots :D
