  1. I think I email bomber and got confirmation the 26 size Thermo-Flex liner is for size 26-26.9 Please let me know if I am in error so I can edit this post as to to avoid false infomation on the internet forum. HTH David
  2. Seems like most if not all that responds have above average riding ability. If you ride various condition and have good fundemental and solid technique then it usualy come down to personal preference. ie How much gears do you want to lug around in the airport? I am going to Vail next week and I am tearing out my hair out just thinkg about what setup to bring. Pretty much decided that I am only going to ride Hardboot this season; but all these reading have confuse me greately. From a softboot transition to HB noob(my) perspective: If you are not used to riding pow then it's going to take some time to get used to it. For the average folks; if I get more than 3 powder days a season I am buying lottery. Untrack deep powder doesnt' count as it's just magical... Tracked up powder/soft mogul usually kick my ass. Which I think I am finally getting a little better at it since we got some snow storm in the north east this year. The more various conditon you ride the better boarder you will become. Getting stuck in the deep stuff in the HB are a major PITA for me. For most expericen rider I don't see this as an issue. I found myself in this situation as I get scare riding HB on trail that I usually just cruise by riding softie. I think it's mostly mental block but it's something I need to work on. -- David
  3. VAIL / BEAVER CREEK SKI WEEK January 11 - 17, 2009 Look for the guy that's always falling lol Will try out these trails: http://www.bomberonline.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=23332 Seems like Vail got some snow today :) This will be the first west coast trip I take without my soft boots... -- David
  4. Thank you all for the valueable input. This place rocks!!! I definately change too many thing at once. Will experiment slowly and try drive more with the knee. Now i can't wait to get back on the slope... -- David
  5. I ride catek os2 standard on madd 168 bx. Regular stance. Origional angle: Front 45 Rear 45 New angle: Front: 60 Read: 50 I been riding the old angle for a while. Figure I tried higher angle to see if it will help me carve better. On the new angle: I have no problem with the toe side; didn't feel too much difference. Feel like I have no heel side. I can not transtion from toe to heel. Almost have to force myself to do a hop to get it to transtion. Should I give it couple more days? or go back to the old angle? From the posts I been reading: 1. Higher angle doesn't necessary mean better ? 2. Personal prefence and Riding angle should be the lowest where no boot overhang occur. Thanks -- David
  6. Just got back from Windham.... What's the opposite of hero snow? I call it humble snow. Just when one think that he made some progress in the world of carving... bam reality check. damn I suck. It's always amazing to see how good some of the skier/boarder on non-optimal condition. This is good in a sense that I will keep on trying :) -- David
  7. I will be @ windham tomorrow. Hope it doesn't rain much.... -- David
  8. Took me 12+ hours round trip(did a day trip, up @ 3am and got home @ 11PM) NY <-> Mount Snow VT First time rocking the hard boot in pow(there will be many first in that context)... I was really nervous about it. First run KICK my ass. Snow got in every where as I tumble down the hill half the time. Ready to call in the quit as I was soaked, cold with sore ego and hurting feet... Out of no where; a side of me that have not surface since I turn the big 3-O. "You will not defeat me!!! Mole hill" Got right back on the summit express and took another 3 run. It wasn't much better; getting stuck in deeper stuff; unbind; dug myself out; spent feel like eternity to contort me torso back into the binding and repeat. "It's world snowboard day and how did I end up in snowboard hell? Must be my punishment for having thought about picking up pair of ski and becoming a two planker" was on my mind. Granted I am a slow learner but after much torture. I realize my problem. I was trying way too hard to apply what I learn/read about hardboot carving on the good stuff. It's a powder day; let loose. Bring out some of the "bad habit". Upper limps was flying every where, hunch down like Quasimodo. Next thing I knew I was howling joyful cried surfing/flying down the trail. The funny thing was that after I losen up a bit I was able to stand staight and still my upper body and work on some of the hardboot technics. Guess it's true sometime gotta take a step back in order to move forward. hardboot in pow is just as good as softboot. This is coming from a recent convert. the trip was totally worth it... still grinning thinking about it :)
  9. This is great price. Some one pick it up before the blood bank open :) If I understand correctly; the mondo size 26 shell/Thermo Flex liner will fit the following: 26.0 -- 26.9 I will be in Jackson late Jan/Early Feb. If it's not sold I just might have to pick them up. -- David
  10. Thank you Scott for the well articulate thought. I have often wonder that myself. I got little/nothing to offer as I am pretty new to the world of hardboot. Trying to follwing/keeping up with good skier(not just going straight down, in a semi-control manner) is what I used to gauge just how bad i did :) Another metrics i used is how tire I feel after each run. It's not scientific. Figured the more efficient that you get then it might mean progress. Thank you to who all have reply. Keep it coming. It's very informative. Regards -- David
  11. Going to ECES was one of the best eye opener for me. People are doing stuff that seems to be defying physics. Too bad it's only once every two year... Starting Gate near Stratton would let you demo alpine gear. That's how I got started last season. First run took me 30+ mintues to get down Mike's way.... -- David
  12. I will be there Sat Dec 6 First day of the season. I can't wait. -- David
  13. My came with extra grey tongue??? With black tongue installed. Does it still hold true? black(stiffer)? Thanks -- David
  14. Thanks!!! tex1230/bobdea/Hans Just the infomation I am looking for. So the AM is eaiser to learn on X2 require more skill Question for myself would be: (from most expensive to cheapest) $$$ Get the AM then upgrade to X2 as I progress. Not saying the AM will be the limiting factor; as I probaby won't be pushing it to the limit for a long while or ever. Is it worth to have both deck in the quiver? $$ Pay it once and get the X2: I probably will took a beating while learning. That's how I learn snowboard actully; got a donek 169 wide as my first board and it kick my butt initially. But it was never the bottleneck; as I progress I don't have to change board. $ or Just stick with the AM all together. So after you ride your X2 would you still want to go back to your Coiler AM depend on the condition? Decision Decision Decision.... Appreciate the feedback -- David
  15. This seems to be "the" thread for my question. AM-T vs stubby X2 for quiver killer some x2 spec listed on bomer L/S.C/W 170cm x 14m x 21cm 171cm x 13.2m x 20 cm AM spec from coiler website(not sure if it's the same AM-T) 172cm x 10.5m x 21.5 172cm x 10.5m x 23 Any first hand experince between the 2? skill level requirement? Can some one rate the X2 like how coiler rate them on the website in term of powder, all mtn, free carve, rec race, serious race. for example on the website: AM powder, all mtn, free carve, rec race, serious race 5-5-3-0-0 What would X2 be? Thanks -- David
  16. i wish it's couple cm longer!!! madd bx 168 that is
  17. Maybe it's CYA(cover your ass) type of thing. If not all most manufacturer does it; they will rate it more conservatively than what the product can do. To compensate for variable during the mass production line, difference in users and etc. ie 99.9% of a type of engine make 300+ HP but 0.1 % make about 295HP during testing the enginer maker might just rated @ 280HP to be on the safe side. Same thing with snowboard: Force==Mass*Acceleration Not every one ride at the same level of aggressiveness. I weight 220lb but I don't have the skill to push my equipment so I can get away with ridding board that's meant for lighter rider. (220lb x Less g force) + manufacturer build-in fluff room ~= some lighter but much much better rider(exerted more g to the board) which the board is design for. -- David
  18. http://www.google.com/search?complete=1&hl=en&safe=off&q=site%3Abomberonline.com+head+stratos+bts&aq=f lots of people have done it. I am think about doing the same to my HeadStratos Pro. Going to hold off on it for a while though. Still trying to figure out what work and what doesn't work for me then decide if changing it make any sense. It make the boot more flexable back and forth similar to riding in walk mode but with more progressive control. However I have seem people railing it with or without BTS... It almost make hardboot act like softboot from what I see in person. -- David
  19. Try some custom footbed. I lost a big toe nail before shell out the money. Now it's much better. I havn't been riding hardboot all that long so YMMV. Could be I was just breaking them in before. -- David
  20. For a 100 dollars shipped; Why the heck not... Can't wait to try out the mini 123; while my body recover from all the crashs while hardbooting :) -- David
  21. Going to have to give it a shot!!! Which one? Does it make any difference? Rossignol The MINI Grip 121 Rossignol The MINI Grip 123 Gnu Nome Ak Snowboard 121cm Gnu K Rove Snowboard 125cm Thanks -- David This is what convince me: Given that it's not a April Fool joke
  22. thanks for the tip!!! What a great idea. Yea I didnt know you are coming to Stratton today... otherwise I would def meet up. I will check it out tomorrow. Ran into some people I meet in ECES today. However they are doing the tree so I didn't follow them... I had a stupid grin on my face the whole day :) -- David
  23. Stratton VT is incredible today!!! 10" yesterday and bluebird today. I heard they will extend the season to 4/21. Yes conditon are that great!! Absolutely hero snow condition as even newbie like I was able to link carve turn :) Get out and ride -- David
  24. Going to be Stratton 3/29 - 3/30 Will report back next week. Ace: It's great to meet you and sure was fun ridding with other hard booter. I can confirmed what queequeg say about the snow/ice. It's fast and very challange for me. Overall it still feel like winter and not spring; so get out there and ride some more :) I sure need the practice. -- Wrong Island
