  1. So some friends of mine thought it would be funny to put nordic kick wax on a friends board as a joke last spring for their last day of riding... Well, our local hill opens this weekend, and said friend wants to use the board.... What do I have to do to get board to glide again?
  2. An XL should fit fine... Especially if you have an extra layer on underneath....
  3. Depends on the suit, and your build.... I have a SPYDER Comp GS suit... I need to go to an XL due to my height (6'2" 175 lbs), but a Large would be roomy enough for me if I was a few inches shorter....
  4. I'm a part of that club as well... Sad part is that I understand wax better than some of the kids on NMU's Ski Team that have been racing longer than I have been snowboarding
  5. I went with "More Than Somewhat".... Being from the Midwest, it's critical that I get up to carving speed ASAP, IMO... It allows me to be efficient... It's no fun if you need to waste the top 1/4 of a run straightlinging to get enough speed... Also, I have some situations at my home hill that require me to have a few hundred yards of run-out if I want to get to another part of the hill and I have to change lifts...
  6. Figures that snowboarding gets it's props the September AFTER I graduate from Northern Michigan.... The HoF is only 15 minutes up the road from campus =( Usually Marquette Mountain has a HoF day with some of the inductees coming out (they had Picabo Street a few years ago), but it's not listed on the HoF Events page .... Wonder if Jake will be up here for that?
  7. Sorry to hear that man... I'll keep an eye out on Ebay....
  8. And to think a response like this was possible in the SUMMER By all means, keep us updated Fin.....
  9. I'll be honest.... It's cases like this that really make me wonder if I could have made a pretty penny by suing Spirit MTN. in Duluth, MN when I broke my leg.... Sure, it was my fault I got crossed up in that set of rollers on the SBX course.... But they never told me that I could possibly be cut off by another rider and hit a roller off balence because I took an evasive manuver to avoid the rider I would have had a hell of a case.....
  10. If only this came a few weeks later....
  11. Funniest thing I have seen in a LONG time... (WARNING: NSFW - Language)
  12. Yea, I've been hearing it from some friends at other schools.... It's not that bad here in Marquette, and I was kinda surprised they cancelled... I have no idea how bad it is west of here in Negaunee and Ispeming though... Who am I to argue if they tell me I can sleep in and bum around all day though As for majors, I am going for a degree in Entertainment and Sports Promotion... I can't say I know your friend...
  13. Northern Michigan Univ. has a snow day today, and yet Marquette Mountain is closed for the season Oh well.....
  14. Silly Techies always taking something simple and complicating it Ingenuity has to start somewhere though One thing I see as a problem though: If you were to use plywood, I would think that you would create a "dead" spot in the center of the board between the inserts since the plywood wouldn't flex as much as the tip and tail. I would think that flexier material would be needed... Maybe use a softer piece of lumber like a pine 1x6 maybe?
  15. Had a race at Giants Ridge in Minnesota in 2004. Temp in the Hotel Parking lot was -24*F, but warmed up to a balmy -18*f by the time we got to the hill....
  16. I don't really rely on files so much as a course diamond stone... I'll just do a single pass or 2 with a file, then several with the Diamond stone, and then finish off with a ceramic stone...
  17. Have one at the Ambassador or the Library for me If we didn't have regionals here in Marquette this weekend, I would definately bust out the softies and join you.....
  18. Ok, since winter decided to finally show up, I've needed to break out the super cold wax.... I'm curious how I should go about using though... I've been told that it's ok to scrape these super hard waxes as soon as they solidify after ironing... I've also been told that you actually pull wax out of the base if you let it sit for a while because it "chips" off instead of "Shaving" off... Anyone have any advice? I am lost here....
  19. Yes... The snow is VERY THIN up there still... Some friends made the journey up the Keewanaw Friday and came back with a few nice shots on their rock skis.... Not sure how much snow they got over the weekend though....
  20. Shawn Palmer was apparently told this weekend that he was disrespecting a "Gentlemen's Agreement" in SBX by wearing a tight Motocross uniform... He was told that he had an aerodynamic advantage that was unfair to the other competitors.... And yet Nate Holland, Seth Wescott and others have wax techs in Aspen... Just a bit hypocritical?
  21. Marquette isn't that bad, but lacks some of the variable terrain that you find in the Western U.P. There are a couple of really nice carving runs and good grooming however... Be forwarned though, there is a race there this weekend... It will get pretty crowded in the chalet... It shouldn't effect the space on the hill, but makes things interesting at lunchtime.... I got to get to class at the moment though, so if you have any further questions, I'll get back to you later in the day
  22. Just curious if anyone had an opinion on the place... I'm racing there for the first time this weekend.... I'm told this definately isn't a budget friendly place....
  23. Ok, every time I execute a series of a few "Cross Under" Turns, I end up riding the tail of the board... It's so bad, I'll end up on my rear if I continue and make 2-3 more turns... I know this is hard to diagnose without pics or a video, but anyone have any pointers? I tried to correct this myself yesterday, but all I did was bend at the waist in an effort to get my weight forward
  24. Hey guys, thanks for the update I appriciate the invite out to Buck, and I really wish I could make it, but I have to hang around Afton. Even though I have most of the day free, I still have some gate keeping and coat running duties that I am resposible for. So I am stuck there Trent: If I see you out there on Sunday, I'll gladly introduce myself... I'm always up for meeting other carvers... I'll be in green/yellow Northern Michigan University Alpine team jacket and a blue/white MX helmet... I should stand out like a sore thumb I look forward to meeting you.... Alright, time to pack up... Hopefully Minnesota treats me better than it did last time I raced there
