  1. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the ticket drawing already took place... You can only buy them 2nd hand now from brokers...
  2. Please forgive me, but this is gonna be a semi-hijack here.... I spent the first half of this winter working as an instructor at 2 small (and I mean SMALL) hills in the Chicago area... I ended up teaching about 35-40 lessons overall... Now I felt (and was told by supervisors) that I was above and beyond most of the other instructors in knowledge, service, appearance, and just about every other aspect... I would see my students advance faster and further than most the other instructors... I'm not trying to brag, as I am sure if I would be just average out west, maybe slightly above at a better hill in the Midwest... All that being said, I was only tipped FOUR times all winter... Seeing as I would get 1 lesson on a week night, and maybe 2 on a weekend/holiday shift, I lost money on the deal when it came to gas, food, and other expenses... I'm curious if a tip ratio like that is common in other places... Being in Chicago, I figured most people just didn't know that tipping was acceptable... After reading this however, I am curious if that's the norm elsewhere....
  3. I wonder how feasable it would be to do this across the country next fall? Like pick some of the bigger swaps in a given section of the country and have the locals sit there for a few hours... I'd be game for doing this wherever I'm at....
  4. So today I was offered an internship with the Tennessee Smokies baseball team in Kodak, TN... So that means I'll be moving to the Knoxville, TN area sometime in the next month... Realistically, what am I looking at for riding options down in this part of the country? Cataloochee Ski Area seems to be the closest option at about 2 hours away... Another hour gets me up to Sugar Mtn. or Beech... Is it worth the extra 60 minutes?
  5. I agree with Bobby as well... If we're talking about cross-under turns here and someone posts a video of that, I think it's fine where it is... I don't have a problem with moving a post if it's purely an eye candy thread, like someone posting vids from an epic pow day in the 1st post or something....
  6. The metal piece screws directly into the board inserts... You then set the plastic piece at the lift/cant you want by rotating the two discs and sticking them together... The plastic discs then set on the "X" tabs that stick out the bottom of the metal piece... You then sandwich the plastic cant piece between the board/metal piece and your bindings... The bindings screw into the top part of the metal piece... As for the cant, I hated it... It felt like riding with a 2x4 under the binding... The board did not want to flex under the cant...
  7. So is the TD3 being run in conjunction to a Vist/Hangl Plate or as a stand along setup?
  8. If you had it in college, it would be a lot easier to understand For me, it started out as a way to network with people in my classes... It made it real easy to get notes from a lecture you missed, or to organize a study group... That same type of communication structure naturally transferred to my friends as well... It was a way to advertise a party or event... Instead of calling people you could get in touch with 30 people with a few keystrokes... You would then get home and add the people you met at said party and expand your friendship network... As mentioned, it is a great way to share photos and stories from your adventures as well... For those of us 25 and under, I guess this just how we work :(
  9. I'm helping a friend get setup with his first snowboard... My buddy has rented a few times and wants to take the next step... I figured I would check here to see what people have lying around... Here's what we're looking for: - Used but not abused board around 157-60 cm... He's leaning towards something of an all-mountain nature vs just a straight jib board... - Some mid-range bindings are also needed... Looking for straps, not step-ins... Overall, he's looking to spend $200-250 for the board and bindings... Again, nothing fancy, just something he can learn on and use for a season or two before needing an upgrade.....
  10. Sweet! Now I can just combine 2 addictions into one
  11. Wow... This was a very educational read...
  12. Anyone know who is pictured running SBX on plates on the Boyne County Michigan site? It should be the first pic in the slideshow at the top of the page....
  13. I was wondering if anyone here in the wonderful Bomber Community can point me in the direction of some reading on SBX technique? I've come across pleanty of carving/turning commentary, but very little on how to handle terrain features, starts, or riding in traffic... I'm looking for anything like magazine articles, online articles, books, whatever... I know I can come on here with any specific questions... I'm just looking for some general info since I have never really had any formal coaching, and most of my technique has been trial and error self teachings.... Thanks Guys
  14. Yea, Marquette got pounded from this system too... It really makes me wish I was still up there :( Oh well, I get to be on snow tomorrow anyways, so I guess I really shouldn't complain that much
  15. How come no one mentioned going to our hidden jewel, Villa Olivia, and it's rockin 150 ft. of vertical  Other than that, it seems like everyone mentioned most anything worth mentioning with one glaring omission: GET A CHICAGO STYLE HOT DOG! Seriously, this is one of the greatest foods ever concocted. There are numerous hot dog shops down in the loop... I'm sure the concierge can point you in the right direction... Just make sure that wherever you go, you get a VIENNA BEEF brand hot dog....
  16. I call shenanigans! There is no such thing as a TD3... All they are doing is putting a shiny new sticker on some old, dusty TD2's... Move along folks... Nothing to see here... Ok, now that everyone has left, am I first in line
  17. Forgive me if this thread is stepping on anyone's toes by posting this... I'm just looking for opinions and info... Since I am done with college and back in the Chicago area, I started to look into my riding options for this winter... Through this search I came across the Chicago Metro Ski Council Race Series. It seems to be based out of Wilmot Mountain, but has a few events at hills further North... From the website, they seem to be open to snowboarders at GS races, although you would be running a skier course and ski gates... I found out after the fact that they had several snowboarders at their Marquette race last season Has anyone ever raced with them before?
  18. Unfortunately, I'm thinking that doesn't really effect anyone that flies into Aspen... If they can afford to do that, these extra fees are nominal to them...
  19. Yep... I was just about to post this since I got my catalog yesterday...
  20. I signed on for the cause... I got a chance to mingle with one of the coaches from the HV Race Team while gate keeping at a USSA Ski Race a few years ago... He was a real nice guy, and he made it seem like y'all had a good program going despite having to travel eleventy billion miles for any relevent USSA/FIS race... Keep us informed on your deal....
  21. I actually ordered from Steep and Cheap for the first time today... I was in the market for a lighter jacket, and low and behold, a North Face Zot Windstopper Jacket popped up for $72 shipped
  22. Well, I would start with any major races/competitions here in the US... Things like Grand Prixs, Race to the Cup, Revolution Tour, X Games, Lake Placid WC...
  23. As someone who just finished up in May of this year, enjoy college... It'll be some of the best times of your life... “You have four years to be irresponsible here. Relax. Work is for people with jobs. You'll never remember class time, but you'll remember time you wasted hanging out with your friends. So, stay out late. Go out on a Tuesday with your friends when you have a paper due Wednesday. Spend money you don't have. Drink 'til sunrise. The work never ends, but college does...” -- Tom Petty
  24. Them silver fishes don't just grow ginormous out west... Caught Saturday morning on Lake Michigan out of Traverse City, MI... Unlike our ski hills, we can actually match you guys out west as far as size goes in this game
