  1. Hi Vapor, I just got a used Rad Air LSD 163 for my 140 lb daughter. What is the board like to carve on? How is your board as an all mountain carver? thanks
  2. My daughter is stoked Hope your foot's better
  3. Trying to remember college 25 years ago: To calculate G-forces around a turn I think its the the angle of the rider. Draw a line from the cutting edge of the board through the approximate center of gravity of the ride and you get the lean angle - same as a motorcycle. On flat ground - no incline - a hard turn is about 30 degrees from the horizontal. Gravity is perpendicular to the ground = your weight, the rider is the hypotenuse of the 30 degree triangle = 2 x your weight = 2G's. This never happens on level ground unless you rail at the bottom of the hill. Using the 30 degree lean angle: If you do a 180 turn on a 45 degree slope the G-force varies as you turn. At the 90 degree point or the turn, your board would be facing downhill. At this point, perpendicular to the slope is not full gravity, its 0.707 G. your resulting G-force would be 0.707 x 2 = 1.414 G. (or .707/sin30) Lateral acceleration would be about 1.22 G's. At the same spot a leisurely 45 degree lean would give you 1G through the legs and .707 lateral acceleratoin. On a sport bike, 45 degrees is a fun turn. The rider feels 1.414 G's but the tires only require 1 g lateral acceleration.
  4. Thanks for saving me the pain of getting the wrong board. Bruce V lives up the road from me - so I think I need to see him about a custom board. The AM is too small. I did meet a guy at Blue Mtn one night on a custom Coiler 200 "something" with a 12m side cut - He rode down the crud like it wasn't there.
  5. Can some one give some advice on Rad Air Tankers. I board a lot at night on 8hr old destroyed corduroy. (Blue Mountain Ontario). I am usually on an older 182 Colier pure race (free ride now!) and find it difficult in the ruts sometimes. I want something bigger, 190-200 to just run over everything. I'm 230lbs and want an aggressive board with edge hold like my Coiler. Should I look to another board? I thank you in advance for your replies.
  6. Please email me if buddy above me doesn't want them - I pay with PayPal
  7. Angulation is your steering wheel. If you try to keep your body straight over the board, you have chosen one angle to appose your centrifugal force. If its not right you skid or fall. Your board has a fixed flex, length and side cut radius. At the moment of each turn, your speed and slope angle are become fixed. The only variable you have left to control is the board's angle. By creating a variable angle at your hips (feeling your ribs touch your hips) you can adjust your angle as you enter, apex and leave the turn. If you took too much board angle (too tight a radius for the speed and slope angle), you can instantly reduce it and visa versa.
  8. You can still use your Burton bindings but you will need a 4-hole center plate. If you are/will be aggressive I would recommend getting full metal.... Catek or TD's (Trenchdigger 1 or 2's) TD1's are easy to get if you on Bomber a lot. You also may want to try 3 or 6 degree cants on the back boots.
  9. I'l try and get my swiss buddies from Quebec to go as well
  10. Do you have a selection of cants and rubbers for the TD1s? What are the angles on the spacers on the board? I live in Barrie Ontario
  11. I rode what ever I could afford until I rode my buddies 184 Free Carve - built for him (for me too cause I'm just as big) and it was like driving a Porche after driving a Miata. I have two now and now my daughter wants one.
  12. I was intriduced to carving by a Swiss friend in while working in Quebec city. After a few runs I caught a couple of carves and I was hooked - it felt like slalom water skiing - my other passion. The problem was there was no equipment to be had. Found a board from the paper - Ultra prime - wore ski boots - didn't know any better - stuggled. Found Bomber - read everything - got the right stuff from the classified now I'm dialed. My daughter now loves it and my Terrain-park-addicted son now wants to try it now too. Information is power and freedom!
  13. hi I am 225lbs and aggressive. I am on a Coiler 184 PR GS and love it but i do need some real estate to let it out. Our hills in Ontario can be like a LA freeway. Some boarder-dufus rendered me unconsious last year as he "skidded" straight down the hill and hit the back of my head with his hip while I was in the middle of a turn. Yes, I was wearing a helmut. Will this board allow me to run better in traffic by makinng tighter turns at slower speeds? If so you have a deal. Please send me your PayPal id and I'll send the money.
  14. Gentlemen, If it wasn't for snowboarding, a lot of the ski hills would be hurting or closed. Snowboarding is easy to learn and fun. (and you don't need a triple black diamond to get a buzz - like you do skiing.) Up here in Ontario the hills basically suck for skiing. Nothing challenging, short with long lines. Snow boarding (especially carving) allows us to enjoy a simple blue groomer. Most ski hills now groom off the mogule runs, build terrain parks and cater to snowboarders. If it wasn't for carving and soft booting I would never of kept going to the hill and most importantly never got my kids into it. My son skiis and kills himself boarding in the terrain park. My 16 year old daughter would rather carve with me or board the terrain park with here friends than go to the mall. My wife has a stiff all mountain board with here 20 old Nordica rear enty ski boots bolted on it (very comfortable and gives here more edge pressure than soft boots). Then at some point in the afternoon she skiis with her girl friends - without changing her boots! As for me, I am that fat 45 year old guy that skiis, carves, boards (oh yea and I ride centry on my road bike once and a while). Its not about the image or identity- its about experiencing life with multiple passions. P.S. Has any body carved in Norway for the spring session? http://www.flegmatic-carving.com/joomla/index.php

  18. It was the last run of the last day out and I caught something in the snow - a rock or something on my toe side in a hard turn and it sent me over to my heel side - caught the edge and whipped me on my ass - and head on typical Ontario ice. I wasn't "out" but I got up slowly On the way down I noticed that my googles didn't fit right so I took off my helmut and found my helmut was split from the bottom to the top with only about 2" of outer shell left still together. This was a high end helmut with a thick hard shell. It completely took the impact and dissapated the enregy exactly as it was designed. Without it I I would have been..................? Its not a question if you will hit your melon on the ice but how hard.
