  1. from what ive gathered, ski boots are stiffer than snowboard boots, and snowboard boots are designed a little differently to accomodate the forward/backward foot movement snowboarders use instead of the side to side motion skiiers use when changing edges. But there are carvers out there who ride ski boots very successfully. Also, UPZ makes hardboots that are supposed to convert from ski to snowboard easily... If you want the convenience but find the ski boots unfit for snowboarding the UPZ boots might be the solution.
  2. perhaps you tilted the board uber steep when the terrain was not uber steep? I seem to do that as a reflex when i get in "dear god i dont want to die!" mode (the panic right before nearly hitting somebody else). It resulted in a really tight heelside turn that i can't do when i try.
  3. looks like theyre not meant to be mounted snowboard-style... looks like theyd be set up monoski-like.
  4. It's wierd, but ive actually been there on a few weekends when there were no crowds at all! Me and 3 friends went into the halpipe to discover that we were completely alone. wierd to see a halfpipe deserted! But other weekends its pretty crowded.
  5. I started skiing and snowboarding at the same time (but dropped skiing because boarding was way more fun). Skiing was much easier for me to learn than boarding... in fact it seemed so easy that I was almost bored with it. Im sure you'll be riding all over within your first 3 or 4 days.
  6. i cant get a turn tight enough to do a good buttonhole... i always wind up losing too much speed and pulling out... the furthest ive gotten is about 270, then finished the last 90 degrees by jumping around.
  7. I need a pair of A-Frames... So many lense tints and colors to choose from! Id have all different lenses for all different lightings (like with my wicked cool sunglasses) But after a new board and a pair of TD2s, im too poor:(
  8. Who posts something this retarded? you pretty much deserve to die. so do all you fags riding with your hard boots. youre practically skiiers with those. Ohh yeah, and you all suck and your girlfriends are dirty dirty whores. ^better? I learn from the best (www.transworldsnowboarding.com ) ;)
  9. Now Im the guy with two (the new ones actually an alpine this time:p ) Hopefully the snow we've been getting lately wont melt like it has been doing for the past week or two. As soon as royal opens im hitting it up... my riding wont be very good, but im hoping to improve a lot by the end of this season:) Ohh, and bring your FC and RT... if i ask really nicely will you let me try em? -steve

    #two

maybe im starting to get old early, but i really had to squint to see *he was holding two boards in each hand and not one board with monsterous taper in each hand!
  11. If youre looking to buy new the Donek Pilot comes in a 147 size http://www.donek.com/01_products/pilot.htm ^thats as small as they make them, nowadays. to my knowledge anyway.

    Sad news

i heard about this a while ago on TWS's forum, very sad to hear that, but it reminds me never to hitch-hike ever
  13. The rental shop here at our local mountain (royal) has been using those or something like them for years. they only had one problem so far, and that was when my friend (under 5 foot about 110 lb girl) had them explode underneath her. It was wierd, and they never saw anything like it before, but it was on a rental which have seen years of abuse.

    cool caps

I might want one, although i never really wear caps... they look really wierd with all my hair sticking out from underneath:o
  15. Transworld snowboarding's website also has alpine style riding as an option in the "setup selector", and Donek, Nidecker, Hot, Madd, Prior, and Volkl listed as boardmakers. however, no alpine boards are in there database at the moment, so a search for this gear would come up empty.
  16. If i didnt spend all my money already, id consider it for $50... if playing around with it turns out to be no fun, ill just decorate my room with it or something
  17. Flows bindings have been redisigned for the 06/07 season, so you probably wont get too many reviews of that specific binding. however, as a rider of 04/05 flow pro 11s i can tell you that theyre probably some of the best (mainstream) softboot bindings for carving. The full wrap of the one piece strap gives a lot more support and really locks your boot in place. The system is also a lot more convenient than conventional straps, especially if youre used to the fast buckling hardboot/binding interface. Just my opinion, feel free to disagree.
  18. the tips and tails of alpine boards are stubby to maximize the effective edge, which makes sense because theyre designed specifically for carving. Narrowness of an alpine board is also a prominent characteristic when comparing alpine to other snowboards... but why? I know its faster edge-to-edge when theres less distance inbetween... is that it or is there more? and yes i used the search function, but about 300 topics came up so i figured this would be easier and more direct.
  19. Im not sure they need lower binding angles, but its nice that they allow them! but basically im with D-Sub on the binding angles, the idea is to get the toe and heel as close to the edge as possible (allowing for maximum control) without causing toe or heel drag. so if you set up your bindings like that, then you will need lower angles to achieve the perfect position.

    Longboard!!!

when you convert the prices to USD, it shows the board costs $1,120.37USD. however, when you become a "member" and log in (completely free) the price drops to $965.84USD. It's still a large sum of money to fork over, and the shippings going to cost a bundle too, but at least you get a $150 discount:)

    Longboard!!!

sorry to dig up an old thread, but i found the surfboard mentioned here and it was so cool that i couldnt resist sharing. i wonder how it rides?
  22. Very nice... Im assuming different colors are available for that style, considering the blue was not in the original blueprint?
  23. your bindings will probably have a little more setback, with lower binding angles. but as always its still whats comfy for ya and what allows you to perform at your own personal best.
  24. having a board that functions as an all-mountain carver is the only sure way to ride all day without the terrain sending you packing. although my longboard isnt classified as all mountain carver, thats what i use it for anyway and it does work well. you'll be looking at the usual suspects, coiler am, donek axxess, prior atv, ect
  25. never even seen it on the mountain, but the whole air tube thing is a neat idea... my guess is theyre supposed to act like a surfboards fins when riding powder?
