  4. at curbside if at all possible. BTW - most airlines make you sign a damage waiver if you use a soft sided ski/board bag. We are traveling with two double-ski SporTubes.
  5. Neil, Suppose you could try Thotic Shops at Aspen Sports (970) 963-9406. www.bootfitters.com I am not familiar with the guys in Aspen but had both my alpine and ski boots worked on by a local man who helped with the training program. See you in Aspen!
  6. http://www.pureboarding.com/en/ Click on "gallery" (along the top) and take hold of what awaits SES attendees. Of all the carving desitinations in the world to travel to, PureBoarding is returning to ASPEN three times this season. You have to experience this yourself to learn why they refer to ASPEN as the MECCA of our carving universe. Nuf said.

  11. Come on over, it will be worth the drive. Get dialed in and sign up for one of the clinics and you will advance at least a year or two on the learning curve. You will also discover the best place to carve.
  12. T-Nut on back. If using step-ins, thread the strap under the Intec release cable.
  13. Thin clear cut stomp pad (6" x 8"). Has surface texture like an orange peel. Should not cause an issue (divot) or need to be removed if/when you have a base grind. "Clearly the best traction and deck protection offered. Unlike traditional neoprene, this stopm pad resist snow packing and gives you an accurate feel and control of your board." My guess is the thickness is around 1mm so it travles well with others. Tele 612-780-4911
  14. John, At Snowmass check out Fanny Hill runs right near the mall area. Very green and probably the same run where most will meet up on Sunday. If you venture to Buttermilk later in the week, head over to West Buttermilk for some nice gentle greens. When you get to the last part of the run (at least on your first run) follow the "easiest way down" route (skiers right) as the FACE of lower larkspur will tempt you to lay it over. The face offers a wide open (dark blue) area and after the first bit of gentle green you may feel that you are ready, be patient. See you in Aspen! EDIT - looking at a trail map I see lower Larkspur is designated as a "black diamond".
  15. http://www.sierratradingpost.com/xq/asp/base_no.76629/dept_id./qx/product.htm Good for low or flat light - Yellow or Rose lenses - not polorized - "shooting" glasses. Will fit small to medium size faces best.

  17. Washed-Out Washington Ski Area Season Passholders Ski and Ride for Free in Alaska Girdwood, AK (Wednesday, February 2, 2005) - Alyeska Resort is offering free skiing and snowboarding for season passholders of Washington ski areas that are closed due to the lack of snow. Passholder guests with reservations at the Alyeska Prince Hotel will be awarded free lift tickets during their stay. "Skiers have made an investment with their season pass and we would like to give them an opportunity to see some benefits," says Larry Daniels, general manager of Alyeska Ski Area. "This is a way to support our industry partners in keeping our customers satisfied." Most Washington downhill ski areas - including the Summit at Snoqualmie, Stevens Pass and Crystal - remain closed. "Seattle is only a three-hour flight from Anchorage," says Todd Clarke, director of mountain marketing and special events for Alyeska Resort. "This is a great opportunity to explore Alaska. It's time to cash in on your airline miles; take the trip and experience our over 320" of snowfall and Alaskan big mountain skiing." Special hotel rates of $85 per night, Sunday through Thursday, and $95 per night, Friday and Saturday, are also extended to Washington ski area season passholders. Rack rate at the AAA 4-diamond Alyeska Prince Hotel begins at $180. Lift rates range from $10 to $50. Washington ski area season passholders can call Alyeska Resort at (800) 880-3880 for hotel reservations and are reminded to bring their season pass to redeem this special offer. Reservations must be made while their ski area is closed due to the lack of snow. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  18. Pat and Karen (on skis) Staying down valley near that great big hot pool.
  19. Hold on. I sold a Donek 179 FC as I thought it was too turney! This was after riding it for two seasons. Your board will turn (tight) if driven to do so. At times I regret selling that board as I could have some fun on it in crowds knowing I could turn it tight; like naviagting through crowds. My board de jour is a Donek 182 with a 14.5 SCR and it too can really hold an edge but needs a bit more landscape than the 179. You just might need some tips on layin it over? Send a video and see what the folks here say. I doubt you will find a better turning board and I believe the board you are on is not over your ability. Don't let someone steal or trade a lesser board for what you have. As far as waiting for a clear shot, I consider that to be SOP. At my local hill this could mean a several minute wait. You have to think safety first. My best runs occur when I am first up on Sat and Sun and prime time may only last for 30 to 60 minutes before the corduroy is skidded off or there are too many sliders and/or patrollers practicing with tobaggons on the run. How long have you been riding plates?
  20. Jack, try http://www.intellicast.com then enter ASE for location to get an idea of what to pack. The Aspen airport (ASE) is within a half mile of Buttermilk. I would expect no colder than mid to mid to upper teens in the a.m. and perhaps mid 30's or into the 40's if there is sunshine by afternoon. BRING SUNCREEN. Of course, it can be a few degrees cooler at the tops of the higher elevations but the sun can burn at any el, you may not feel it as much as you would at lower el. Suggest all us flat landers start to hydrate well before arrival.
  21. From FirstTracksOnLine.com Dover, VT (Sunday, January 30, 2005) - More than 20 new inches of fresh powder and wind gusts of up to 25 miles per hour courtesy of the Northeast's Blizzard of '05 paved the way last Sunday for a high intensity, action packed final day of racing for the world’s top ski and snowboard athletes in the Jeep King of the Mountain Skiing and Snowboarding World Championship at Mount Snow Resort in Vermont. Under blue skies and sunshine, the 16-person field made up of ski and snowboard teams representing the U.S., Austria, Canada, France and Germany along with six Open Qualifiers braved bone-chilling single digit temperatures and a unique Y-shaped racecourse set up on the challenging Cooper’s Junction Run for a share of the record $75,000 prize purse and King of the Mountain honors. On the racecourse, Jasey Jay Anderson of Team Canada completed a week for the ages, capturing the men’s snowboarding title just days after his record setting double gold medal performance in the Parallel GS and Parallel Slalom at the Snowboard World Championships in Whistler, B.C. Anderson, a two-time Olympian and 19-time World Cup winner, maintained first place in the Jeep King of the Mountain standings by out dueling Open Qualifier Pete Thorndike of Lebanon, N.H. in the finals. Anderson’s path to the championship heat included wins over Open Qualifier Eric Warren of Bennington, who has been a member of the U.S. Snowboard Team since 2000, and 2002 Olympic medalist Chris Klug of Aspen, Colo. Thorndike, a former member of the U.S. Snowboard Team and the U.S. National Champion in 2003, made it to the finals by topping Dieter Krassnig of Team Austria, who has collected 53 top-10 finishes in his World Cup career, and Jeff Greenwood of Hood River, Ore., a member of the U.S. Snowboard Team and winner of the most recent Jeep King of the Mountain race at Snowbird, Utah. Greenwood held on for third place honors with a victory over Klug in the consolation heat. In the men’s ski bracket, Casey Puckett of Team USA, the defending Jeep King of the Mountain Champion, captured the title with a hard fought battle against rival and current points leader Martin Fiala of Team Germany in the championship heat. Puckett, a coach at the Aspen Valley Ski & Snowboard Club who first arrived on the Jeep King of the Mountain scene as an Open Qualifier, earned a pass into the second round when Josef Polig of Vipiteno, Italy, a gold medalist at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, France, pulled out of the competition with a knee injury. Puckett then defeated former European Champion Markus Wittner of Team Austria to set up the showdown with Fiala in the finals. Fiala, meanwhile, made his way through the bracket with a convincing win over Davey Barr of Team Canada. Wittner fought off in the consolation heat to capture third place. The ski and snowboard racers competed Sunday for $75,000 and valuable points toward to overall King of the Mountain title. Overall, the four-event Jeep King of the Mountain Series ranks as the richest purse in snow racing, including $450,000 (U.S.) in prize money, $20,000 (U.S.) in bonuses from John Paul Mitchell Systems and the keys to a new Jeep Liberty. A national audience will be able to view the January 23 Jeep King of the Mountain Series Skiing and Snowboarding World Championship from Mount Snow on CBS Sports on Feb. 19-20. All told, the 2004-2005 season was visible via CBS Sports and nationally syndicated television for a total of six hours of coverage between Dec. 2004 and March 2005. Following this weekend’s race at Mount Snow, the Jeep King of the Mountain Series will gear up for the season’s grand finale at Heavenly Resort in Lake Tahoe, Calif., on Feb. 4-5, 2005. 2004-2005 JEEP KING OF THE MOUNTAIN SERIES SKIING & SNOWBOARDING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP JAN. 23 – MOUNT SNOW RESORT, VERMONT FINAL RESULTS Individual Competition: Men’s Skiing 1.
