  5. And again this year the 184 Rossi will be the longboard and I am looking forward to trying my "new-to-me" 170 Rossi World Cup as the short board. Thanks Buggs, the 170 looks like new after a complete tune-up. Jim, are you planning on bringing your short board to Aspen?
  6. Scheduled to air in late November . . . (23rd, 24th & 28th) FEARLESS (TV-G) Chris Klug is the 'bounce back kid,' a snowboarding champion who spent a lifetime overcoming daunting physical challenges. After suffering from severe asthma as a child, Klug became one of snowboarding's pioneers, envisioning a future in the Olympics at a time when competitors wore moon boots and their flex was determined by the number of wraps of duct tape. Fighting through chronic heel problems and a knee injury that threatened him with permanent nerve damage, Klug remained a world class snowboarder for more than a decade - only to become afflicted by a deadly liver disease known as Primary Schlerosing Cholangitis, or PSC - the same illness which claimed the life of Klug's athletic idol, Walter Payton. But Klug survived, rebounding from a liver transplant in the summer of 2000 to capture an Olympic bronze medal less than two years later - while utilizing his celebrity, through the United Network of Organ Sharing, to help save the lives of others.

  9. Ludlow, Vermont (Ski Press)-New terrain, an assortment of culinary options and the fully open, fully functional Jackson Gore Inn and base facility have made Okemo a bigger version of its loveable self. Going from peak to peak is now easier than ever with more trails, an expanded beginner area and a newly paved road connecting the Okemo base to the Jackson Gore base. Two new gladed trails have been added at Jackson Gore that includes the 3,200-foot long “Supernova” and 1,500-foot long “Black Hole.” Steep, undulating and loaded with excitement, these new glades will provide nearly 10 acres of “au natural” tree skiing to challenge any expert. The new glades are located off Tuckered Out and Upper Limelight. To insure consistently good snow conditions all season long, Okemo has increased its snowmaking firepower again this season. Various pipe replacements and system enhancements will result in more energy-efficient and dependable snowmaking. A brand-new Bombardier BR grooming machine has been added to the fleet. Also, every morning the first hour (60 minutes) of lift operation is FREE so Okemo skiers and riders can “check out” the snow conditions before they purchase a lift ticket. Try Before You Buy first hour free is only valid midweek (non-holiday) from 9:00 am until 10:00 am, and on weekends and holiday periods from 8:00 am until 9:00 am. Check it all out at www.okemo.com.
  10. Aspen / Buttermilk would be my recommendation. Dive through the SES 05 thread at the top of the forum. Shop flights at www.expedia.com Also check out VANS at www.orbitz.com Flight from Ft Meyers "RSW" direct to Denver "DEN" versus flying into Aspen "ASE" is less $$. Aspen can be difficult to fly into if there is weather. You could probably fly into Denver and rent a van for a few dollars less than the cost of flying into Aspen. The drive from Denver to Aspen is beautiful and you will also pass by Loveland, Copper and Vail along the way. www.PureBoarding.com will make two trips this season to Aspen (from Switzerland). I have seen a few ads for one stop shopping www.ski.com Enjoy!

  14. Text of the article from Skipressworld VALLE NEVADO, Chile (Sept. 16) - The FIS snowboard World Cup season kicked off Thursday with a snowboardcross event in Valle Nevado, Chile. U.S. Snowboarding rider Lindsey Jacobellis (Bondville, VT) was the top American, finishing fourth in the women’s race while Great Britain’s Zoe Gillings captured the win. Of the seven American men competing Thursday, Nate Holland (Olympic Valley, CA) posted the best U.S. finish at 13th. “I made a little mistake,” said Jacobellis, who won four World Cup SBX events in 2004. “I left too much room for Zoe to come in and I paid the price. You live and learn. Tomorrow I plan to stay tighter through that gate, but I did the best I could.” Peter Foley, head U.S. Snowboarding coach, said Jacobellis started in the far right lane for the finals. Coming into a critical gate, Jacobellis left a hole open wide enough for Gillings to slide in front of her and force her to the outside, where Jacobellis hit the fence. Jacobellis noted the conditions were spring-like: “soft, but really fast.” She admitted the altitude has played a factor in her preparation. At more than 12,000 feet, it has taken every bit of the last seven days in Chile to get acclimated. Holland and Seth Wescott (Farmington, ME) made it to the round of 16, with Wescott finishing 15th. Canada’s Drew Neilson won the event over Xavier Delerue of France. “It’s always difficult racing in a pack like you do in SBX,” said Foley. “They just just didn’t execute the way they needed to in order to win. It was a tight race, though. But if you’re not in the lead, you’re definitely more susceptible to getting beat.” Foley said athletes would regroup this evening and study the video from the day’s races in order to prepare for the second SBX event Friday. “Everyone’s riding well enough - we just need to execute better,” said Foley. “We learned a lot from qualifications and from today’s races, and we will study the video and hopefully do better tomorrow.” SNOWBOARD WORLD CUP Valle Nevado, Chile Sept. 16, 2004 Women 1. 17. Rob, My initial error in riding was I was trying to emulate riding on snow and using two lanes width to make a turn. I was running 20 to 24 psi and going too fast. Try a lower tire psi - say around 15psi and use just one lane, well, less than two. You will be turning slower, lower and tighter turns with a bit more control or at least the ability to stop or bail at any time, safely. You will feel the calves after a few runs. Just another style or method to mix it up a bit. Pat

  21. I have done a few trips to UTAH late Nov / early Dec and you may have snow but it will still be "early conditions". No area is likely to have anywhere near 100% of their terrain open, even after 4 to 5 ft dumps. Local saying is the Bird needs 100" base to cover the rocks! It is different skiing on "stained" man-made snow at SnowBasin from the high mineral content water. Biggest expenses - air and car are usually not any cheaper at this time than during high season. You may have less total people on the hill but the rider density could be high with fewer runs open. I recall Wolf Creek in S.W. Cololardo getting decent early snows the last few seasons but I am not personally familiar with what Wolf Creek has to offer http://www.wolfcreekski.com/ If it's cold you might want to consider Okema - never been but it sounds tempting - 95% of the terrain has snowmaking.
