  4. Our last lab was not a kisser (good thing too!) as her nasty habit was to eat her own pooh. Kind of controlled this by walking her on a leash at dump time and then bagging it. My brother's lab is banned from doggy day care as she will eat all the other dogs pooh. Doesn't this pooch already have a name?
  5. 160 is the max length. They used to offer a longer version but removed it from their catalog as it was shorter than the mfg claimed. If you use a bag for your board after a day on the slopes, be sure to remove all the snow and water from the board before inserting into the bag to avoid potential rust on your edges.

  11. Chairlift Construction On Schedule to Greet Ski Season at Whitefish News - Resorts Whitefish, MT - A $7.5 million chairlift expansion of two new high speed quads is continuing on schedule at Whitefish Mountain Resort, formerly known as Big Mountain Resort, with load testing to begin in October and both lifts ready for the 2007-08 ski and snowboard season. The chairlift work is being completed by Salt Lake City-based Doppelmayr CTEC. Resort owner Winter Sports, Inc. is rebuilding two chairlifts for the upcoming season. Big Mountain Express/Chair 1, the main lift to Big Mountain’s summit, is being replaced. Swift Creek Express/Chair 2, previously a fixed-grip double chair, is being extended, re-aligned, and replaced with a high-speed quad. The original Chair 1 was a fixed-grip double chair constructed in 1960 and was replaced in 1989 by the current high-speed quad, previously called the Glacier Chaser. Mark Haselby, site manager for Doppelmayr CTEC, worked on the high speed installation 18 years ago and is overseeing the two projects this summer. “We have an aggressive timeline on this massive project and we’re making significant progress,” said Haselby. “We should begin load testing the first week of October.” Progress to-date on Chair 1 includes the replacement of lift tower assemblies and tower extensions using a helicopter and the rebuild of the bottom terminal. The top terminal is 40% complete with the new bull wheel and electric motor in place. Grade work is nearing completion and new communication lines are being strung this week. New lift cable will be strung in mid-September and then new chairs will be added to the line for final load testing. Last week 50 cubic yards of lift tower concrete for Chair 2 were flown via Kaman K-max helicopter in 65 different trips over 3.5 hours for towers 6 through 16. This week, towers 1 through 5 will be poured using trucks. New lift towers will be flown into place during October. The top terminal has been excavated and poured and dirt work is beginning on the lower terminal. The goal for Chair 2 is to have load testing completed by Thanksgiving. In addition to chairlift upgrades, snow groomers have also been replaced at a cost of over $240,000. Announced last week, the resort is tripling its snowmaking capacities for the Fishbowl Terrain Park and Superpipe.

Talisker Canyons Finance Co. LLC, a subsidiary of the Toronto-based real estate development and investment company Talisker Corp., will buy the resort outside of Park City and all stock in American Skiing Co. Resort Properties, Inc., which has contractual rights and obligations involving The Canyons. Talisker also is assuming responsibility for pending litigation in which the resort's former owner, Wolf Mountain, contends it should regain the property because American Skiing defaulted on a lease. That trial is projected to take place early next year in Park City's 3rd District Court. In a related development, Scott Pierpont, general manager of The Canyons, resigned Monday "to pursue other opportunities," said David Hirasawa, American Skiing's director of financial analysis and investor relations. Pierpont also is chairman of the 21-member board overseeing Ski Utah, marketing arm for the state's 13 active resorts. His future with the association "has yet to be determined," said Ski Utah spokeswoman Jessica Kunzer. "The board has really enjoyed working with Scott and he has a long history working with Ski Utah. Only time will tell." The sale of The Canyons means American Skiing has disposed of all eight resorts under its control at the start of last ski season, raising $599 million used to pay off creditors. Those creditors included Oak Hill Capital Partners, a Connecticut-based private equity firm that was American Skiing's majority shareholder. On June 21, when American Skiing filed papers to dissolve with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, company officials said The Canyons would continue to operate under Oak Hill as it has in the past. There were no public indications a sale of The Canyons was imminent. Chip Carey, American Skiing's senior vice president of marketing and sales, said Monday "the right offer came at the right time. It was an opportunistic sale . . . at a very good price." He added that Talisker is a "power player in town," its Park City operations (technically Talisker Mountain Inc.) led by Jim Thompson, former president and chief executive of Vail Resorts Development Co. "They're well thought of, good citizens, very successful," Carey said, optimistic Talisker can build on American Skiing's development of The Canyons. "We've taken The Canyons into the top 15 resorts in the United States in a very short period of time. They will be able to come in and complete the vision at a very high level. The growth will be spectacular. We're excited for the community about that." Calls to Talisker and its public relations company were not returned Monday. Talisker Deer Valley's Web site said Thompson was hired in February of 2006 to run the Utah operations, which began in 1999 and expanded with the 2003 acquisition of United Park City Mines. The company created the Talisker Club, a private-membership club offering multimillion-dollar residential development opportunities in three communities adjacent to Deer Valley - Empire Pass, Tuhaye and Red Cloud. Club members have access to an 18-hole course designed by Masters and British Open champion Mark O'Meara, Deer Valley's ski slopes, a mobile fly fishing clubhouse on the Weber River and a private ski-boat docked on Jordanelle Reservoir. Thompson developed Vail Resort's real estate assets at Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge and Keystone ski resorts, its retail properties at two of them, and the company's employee housing program. He also redeveloped the company-owned Jackson Hole Golf and Tennis Club in Wyoming. mikeg@sltrib.com </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

  18. <!-- start header --><H1>First Tracks!! Online Ski Magazine</H1>Jul 02, 2007 - 07:58 AM News - World Cup Government Camp, OR - During every U.S. Snowboarding alpine training camp, Head Coach Steve Persons works in a team-building exercise or two. But never one quite this rocky as the Team headed to Oregon's Kickatat River for some Class II-III whitewater kayaking during the second of two early on-snow camps held at Timberline Ski Area on Mt. Hood. "I swear, they needed leashes for all of us,” said 2006 Olympian Michelle Gorgone (Sudbury, MA). "It was full-on bumper boats - they would try to keep us under control, but we were all racing and trying to dump each other. The rapids weren't too big, so there wasn't a fear of death or anything. It was more of a good time for everyone.” Going "blue angel” Using plastic sit-on-top kayaks, the Team was guided downriver by a local outfitter and scouted the more significant rapids before running them "blue angel” - one after the other. According to Persons, who has taken the Team kiteboarding and rock climbing for previous team-building experiences, it's important for the riders to face things completely out of their element. "I don't think any of them had been kayaking before, at least not whitewater, and all of them swam, but it's things like this that help the team work together. Alpine racing may be individual when you're on course, but the support of the entire Team is what makes each rider successful,” said Persons. With a number of young riders working into the program like Lindsay Lloyd (Centerville, UT), Vic Wild (White Salmon, WA), Zac Kay (Mount Shasta, CA) and Josh Wylie (South Londonderry, VT), off-snow activities become just as important as on-snow opportunities, says Persons. "These riders basically live together the entire winter, and if they're not comfortable hanging out together off the snow, then they're certainly not going to perform together in competition,” he said. "So, we toss them into situations that aren't within their comfort zones and see how they perform.” Whitewater - the frozen kind Away from the river, the Team had six days of lapping the Palmer snowfield at Timberline Resort with gates set on the lower portion. The focus was on adding mileage, perfecting form and gaining consistency. ”Ultimately, we want the athletes to be feeling very comfortable fundamentally with their riding before we go into a long break from on-snow training. There's a lot of equipment testing going on in order to dial-in gear before next winter. Because of that, we weren't focusing on speed, just getting in the laps and making sure their form is solid,” added Persons "Technically, it's nice to have a couple of on-snow camps not long after the season ends because their legs are still there from winter. But now we'll take two months off before regrouping in New Zealand. Everyone will pretty much head home and work on their physical fitness using the individual programs set up by Per [Lundstam, the USSA strength and conditioning manager].” The trip to New Zealand will be a first for alpine riders, who have traveled to Chile the past three seasons for their late summer training camp. The switch, said Persons, was a unanimous vote by the athletes to check out a new training location. Positive reports from the freestyle riders, who have made New Zealand a regular summer stop, may have helped the vote. "We thought it was time for a change,” said Persons. "Besides, we hear that they've got a pretty killer jet-boat ride you can take down a river in New Zealand - the Team is pretty stoked to check that out and my guess is if they can handle whitewater kayaking, a jet-boat should be no problem.” Departure is set for the end of August and the Team will remain in New Zealand until mid-September
