  1. I forgot about centering the boot, I mark the center on the sole if it is not done already and center the over the plate. im 6'2" and go with 19.5 stance width. Probably a good place to start c to c on the base plate. I dont put alot of stock in carpet feel, as soon as you add flex, momentum/g's, angulation and the like it will feel more natural compared to a softie stance.
  2. Sanchez, the weird set up feeling on the carpet can be over-exaggerated when you are standing still. The snow is slowly accumulating, be patient, and when the mountains open some of the folks here will be happy to get you set up. Good place to start (and there are 2450 opinions on this site alone) set up you angles so the heel/toe of the boots/bails are just over the edge of the board with minimal overhang. Set the base plates up in a neutral/centered position in the hole patterns, not too forward/aft. Cant/lift can be a bit trickier but most guys go with whats comfortable if you have cant plates. Start with that, see how it feels and what the board does and go from there. Oh, go to a snowperformance camp too. Money well spent. See you on the hill.
  3. 1980 CB 750F. A little project I picked up a few months ago. Bone stock except for the 60$ V&H pipe I got from CL. Looks like crap but sounds great. All the bits were there when I got it. Fun little Japanese muscle bike.
  4. My favorite blog: http://bikesnobnyc.blogspot.com/ even if he does beat up on fixies.
  5. http://heraldnet.com/article/20090410/NEWS01/704109898 Read the comment "why" at the bottom and then see all the flak he takes. Too bad he died, and the affects of his death are far reaching. Did the person who did CPR on this mangled kid leave the house and say "today I think Ill do CPR on a 16 y/o bag of bones in the street." I know some of the medics and Firefighters from SNO7 and I know they would rather have not had the call. Im sure the driver of the car didnt have it on her agenda either and it will leave a life long impression on her. The fact is, the parents are ultimately responsible, no matter how much "experience" this kid had around motorcycles. If they were aware of his past problems, then he should never have been allowed to operate a vehicle until he proved he was responsible enough. I also hear the argument about bikes that go well over 120 mph and why are they necessary. They really arent necessary, any more than a 50 cal is necessary to protect your home or to hunt, but they are allowed just the same. Ultimately it is up to the user to of cars, bikes, guns, skis, snowboards, bicycles etc to use their brains. It is up to us a parents to teach our children that, no they are not entitled to do whatever the hell they want whenever they want or there will be consequences, and those results may end up affecting or harming other people period. But really what kind of example do kids get in life when they see people let off for DUI, movies and tv shows full of rape and murder, executives and politicians that are not held accountable for their malfeasance all on a daily basis? Im no bible thumper, gun lover/hater, conservative/liberal. Im common sense, and in this case, like so many others, it was lacking on many accounts.
  6. , Im with the family last THursday, the boys are in lessons on dollar, im on skiis, this is the first trip in 15 years without a board. Sun Valley is going off. It has been solid all week. Ok so I get done riding (skiing) Canyon, I look up from where Canyon and Mid River Run meet and I see the only alpine board all week. Who is it? Why the old Carvedog himself, rocking the Burner. The funny part is when I tell the family Im going to say hi they all ask "do you know him?" when I saw the Burner I knew who it was. Of course I know him! Hes on an alpine board! We all know each other! It was a great week. I was lookinf forward to another great day yesterday, had a plan with friends to ski bell to bell and hit warm springs for a little Apre's tip o the glass, but decided to make a run for Seattle before the roads got bad. I love that mountain, and for those who are thinking about it, even dollar Mt at 38$ a day has buff cord ( we spent 2 days there when the kids were in lessons and with the quad to the top you can do a $hit load of runs). Ill be back in June with the MTB and the beer tippin arm at the ready. Jerry, sorry I bailed, good to see you, fingers crossed for the econ to pick up for the good health of all......we spent a fair sum trying to help...The picture is my son taking his first run from the top of Baldy. He did 13 runs his first day.

The ultimate is wookie boots with romper suits. Rock on.
  9. Like Ur13 said, they matter if you want to. I was on skis again for the first time in 15 years last year and I will say they made a huge difference. Yes, my carving background helped, to me alot of the machanics are the same. I was able to keep up with some incredible local skiers in Sun Valley and one of them didnt beleive me when I told how long I had been off skis. That said, I still have a ways to go off piste or in bumps, but I am having tons of fun like I never did before. And yes I can get over almost as far as my board. Like boards, people need to get the right tools for their abilities which may be part of the problem, take lessons etc. Rossi Z11 with Nordica speedmachine boots. Works for me. Like Skategoat, last pair I had were the Rossi 4SK and there is NO comparison.
  10. Fin the fact that this event even happens at all is no small undertaking. Also, that you are taking the time to gather input, listen to both +/- feedback and looking ahead to bring this to future events speaks volumes to your dedication towards your customers/fellow carvers/friends and their experience. Thanks for your effort, dedication, and constant vision towards improvement. In todays world, I find these traits to be less and less obvious. The group of hardworking sponsors are all taking time to make this event special to all who attend. It seems pretty obvious you all have a huge amount of pride in your work, and love for the sport, that translates into our enjoyment. While I did not make it this year, and it might be a few more till I do, I look ahead for the good times and new friends. I dont really care about the menu, thats never what I remember anyway. I do remember the fine folks from around the country and the world that I made turns with. Sorry for the A$$kissing diatribe, Just wanted to say thanks for doing it.
  11. for those that missed it, the three of us represented on the carving tip! Actually the snow was pretty damn good, sun was out, and crowds were working trying to stimulate the economy. The rest of us slacjkers (Blegojovich?) were busy selling our sport to the uninformed masses one baggy pants turn and cigarette butt at a time. Actually, nobody even noticed us. But I took this to try to show up the world carving session (no CAPS, they dont deserve it) on an Iphone no less. Keenan and Mike, Thanks.

    Ses 2009

Thanks. Your killing me, but thanks. This must be the $hit stirring karma I deserve. Thanks.
  13. Ill be there either way. First day of the year for me, so cruising is just fine by me.
  14. Sorry to stir the pot, not riding, bored, voyeuristic tendencies etc. Thanks Jack, TT, and WW for the vids. Signing off.
  15. While I agree the waste and stupidity (taxes? I owe on taxes?) continue, sounds like a bit of sour grapes. Besides, we all know this type of thing NEVER happened in the last 8 years. Honestly, I have no problem seeing criminals on either side prosecuted for the same things the rest of us would do time for, but lets not forget those who got off scott free when the Constitution was used as Toilet Paper and the inner circle re-wrote laws to justify their agendas and stroke their egos.
  16. Jerry some of the best snow I have ever been on for carving was skiid off chalk on Warm springs 2 years ago. No sinking, just chalk. That said, the boys in the Valley know their groom! I too find that it is easy to "sink" in the fresh groom, but it seems to me the snow/temp is the factor. I do like the speed control factor when it is a little softer tho
  17. or stop by the gallery, say hi to Jerry, and look at his awesome work. You never know what you might take home! BTW, I'll be over in March.
  18. I will leave an exceptional tip for exceptional service and I will not hesitate to tell the person why whatever the service may be. Take it. Play it down, be modest and appreciative. They appreciate what you offer.
  19. https://www.tixforskicrystal.com/e-commerce/itemList.aspx go here for tix, dont forget to print out the online invoice and take it with you they need the bar code. 9-13 radio? see you there
  20. Anybody needs a ride from the southend or carpool from E-Claw or Maple Valley let me know. What time are we meeting and radio channel #? Hope for more snow see you on the 9th.
  21. When you get tired and you find your recovery is lacking on the hill, stop. Injuries can occur from fatigue if you cant recover from mistakes. Its hard to pull the plug when you are with 150 of your newest, closest carving friends at the carving Mecca blowout of the year, but head to the tent, talk shop, schmooze with the Carving Glitterati that is the SES and get ready for the next day. It sucks to have a trip cut short because you didnt listen to your legs when they were screaming. Water water water! Beer beer beer! Oh wait, thats my recovery plan, but it doesnt work for everyone. Im sure you will do fine. Fastskiguy mentioned Warm Spring in Sun Valley. That usually does me in after a few T to B runs so I save it for midday so I dont blow up too soon. More than once I have scared my self with fatigued legs trying to push too hard when I should have quit earlier. Listen to your legs. You Lucky Dog....
  22. Go to the welcome center on this site. Then, go make a pot of coffee, pull up a comfy chair and go here: http://www.alpinecarving.com/ You should have no problems fitting bindings to your boots. Fin has done all the leg work (or Catek for that matter) to make sure their bindings fit boots. the interface is common among boots/bindings.
  23. I would recommend a binding upgrade first. There have been a few sets of TD 2'S for a decent price or you could spring for the 3's. I think you might find the combination of the suspension and performance of the wider base plates might make a substantial difference. Also, see if you can find an experienced rider in your area to check your set up and ride with you. Once you get dialed that board should work fine for you. You will also find no shortage of opinions here to help you out.;)
