It was taken in the 90s when relations between skiers and snowboarders ranged from animosity to rivalry to friendly ribbing. I'd estimate a majority of skiers were still either convinced or quietly hoping snowboarding was just a fad. This picture perfectly captured the time, and snowboarding's superiority in powder, and I as a young buck snowboarder scored it an in-your-face win. I only recently learned from Fawcett's Instagram post about this cover shot that the hapless skier was John Egan.
