X-Box snowboarding...

Here is a story that I thought this group might get a laugh about.

So...the other day I get invited to a guys only X-Box party. You know, stay up late eat pizza, drink beer, and play X-Box. Now perhaps I am just from the wrong generation being well over 40 and all of these guys were in their early 30's but I have never played X-Box, perfering my recreation to be more realistic and of the outdoor variety, but I figured I needed to broaden my viewpoint.

So this one guy is awesome at the snowboarding halfpipe thing. I mean he can do it like Shaun White or something and totally kicked my ass.

This is a non athletic guy who has never snowboarded in his life. :smashfrea

I casually mentioned that I was heading out in a few days for some real snowboarding and if he would like to come along and try it. He turns to me and replies "Why would I want to go to a mountain with real snow, get cold, fall down a lot, and have a miserable time when I can stay in my warm house on the couch and shred the slopes?".

I was so dumbfouded I could not think of a suitable reply. Any ideas for a comeback?

Ohh...well that is at least one less guy I will need to avoid on the slopes. :)

Once when I was in college, there were these two guys at the end of my hall who were constantly playing video games. The space between their two beds was littered with empty pizza boxes and soda bottles. One day, on my way out the door to go snowboarding I saw them and they were playing some snowboarding game. I went to the mountain and had a nice day of snowboarding. That evening when I came back, they were still in bed, in the same position, playing the same snowboarding game. True Story.

At the music store last night, they had Guitar Hero in the lobby of the lesson area.

3 kids playing guitar hero....1 practicing a real guitar prior to his lesson.

Nuff said.

Guitar Hero and Rock Band drive me nuts! :freak3:

I'm a music teacher and I think of all the time some kids spend playing them when they could be practicing and playing a real instrument and becoming real shredders. A couple of drum teachers that I know say that they notice a significant difference when their students are spending time playing Rock Band because it messes up their timing. I run a guitar club and I always lose a few kids every year because "it is not as easy as playin Guitar Hero." Aaaargh!

Then again why would people talk to each other when they can text them...

I'm sure rock band wouldn't affect your world cup performance...unless you are playing it instead of training. :D

The time from when you strike the drum pad to when the sound is played is different from when you strike an acoustic drum. Adjusting to this is not easy and often beginner players aren't even aware of this. It can lead to bad habits and a strange feel/groove when transferring to real drums.

I don't doubt that playing a video game that simulates playing music is fun. Playing music is fun as well! :)

You can calibrate the game to make it right. The Bass is what is really screwed up. It registers a hit when you pull the "string" rather than release it.

I know the type, I've got a friend like that and if he's anything like my friend he probably has asked you to go to a strip club if not once, several times. Next time he asks, tell him, "Why would I want to go out and look at real women, talk with them, and have them physically touch me while they give me a lap dance, where I can smell the perfume they are wearing, when I can stay at home and watch porn on my computer?". See if he makes the connection.

Edit: Or better yet, next time he wants to go get a burger just tell him to play "Burger Time" instead.
