What do you guys do in the summer?

Planning on doing some local road races, no crits for me. A few mtn bike races, need to try out the new 29er on a race course. Playing volleyball, indoors and outdoors. Playing doubles on the beach is the best!! Trying out my new 2 weight Winston fly rod on our local waters. Hitting up the local tournament lakes to see if I can run 5@32 off again plus mix in a bit of wakeboarding and barefootin' in the mix as well. Carving up some of the local, freshly paved roads around here on my longboard. The latter part of summer I will be taking a western states motorcycle trip on my KLR 650.

And just before the snowboarding season starts back up I am planning on doing the Tour de Tuscon again, this time with my sisters. We are planning on doing the 115 mile loop, it should be loads of fun!!

I'm leaving tomorrow morning for a mountain biking trip to Sedona AZ. Really looking forward to that! The rest of the summer will be biking, hiking, backpacking, camping, fishing, kayaking, drinking and BBQ'ing, hopefully a couple trips someplace not yet planned and whatever other fun adventures I happen upon.

Willy, I have been using a non-coastie approved vest for skiing and wakeboarding for years. The rule states that as long as you have a coastie approved vest in the boat you can use a non-coastie approved while skiing. I am not sure where you would store the coastie approved vest while kiteboarding??

I've got one, too. Just a standard Sport 3-door version, nothing jacked-up. The bloody thing is indestructable, it has almost 300K on the clock!

good to know on the pfd rule. I've never been knocked out "completely" and needed to float. The bulky floaty pfds suck for kiting. I wanna sew in a pouch to this one to carry a cell phone, a beacon and maybe an Ipod in waterproof cases. Good insurance for those long ocean downwinders.

the jeep was in a lot next to the boats. Somebody has a used car parcel in a neighborhood. The JEEP LOOKED PERFECT FOR HAULING THOSE BOATS. wE HAD A cLASSIC WITH A 4.0 AND SHE had some decent hp, same red with dark tint on the windows but mostly stock with a big yakima box up top. i miss that rig.

Now I content myself with my life long passion for motor speed on the water. Here are some pics The G3 is 13ft 7 inches and without motor weighs 360 lbs. have known guys to put 150 hp on them. the shark mouth one is the one I had. radared at 58 mph with the 70 hp merc. the other is a 115 merc on a friends boat.

G3s are wicked fun they go airborn on the wake of a canoe with a 2 hp motor. Yes they have so much lift once on a plane you can kick all they way back to 17.5 mph and they will stay up.

THen there is the 1946Gar wood 16 footer I am restoring for show. with the 95 hp chrysler six she was good for 45 mph, factory guaranteed. after a year on the show circuit she gets a shingled step hydro bottom and an XKE 265hp tripple carb six marine conversion. THat should be good for at least 70 mph.

the Invader, The blue deep V. was fun but I needed money and she only could do 45 mph , but was a great wake boarding boat.

Sounds like you have some fun toys . I love over powered small boats. I had a small I/O Glastron that I put a 351 in when I was a kid that was well in the 60s. G3s were fun boats, a friend had one with a 235 on it, too much weight and would only only do 60 because it chine walked so bad. A 15' Hydrostream with a Mod VP (v6 Merc) was also a scary combination, There used to be one on the bay that would do 105 (very fast for the '70s and '80s) it was appropriately named "Oh ****".

I had a 10' tunnel hull with a Yamato 102 for a while, 60 mph on your knees and handled like a Porsche, it would hook and do instant 360s if you got off the throttle in a turn.

I play with whitewater boats now, I have Creek boats, Playboats (kayaks), single and tandem inflatable kayaks, and a 14' self bailing raft now so they take up most of my free time. I've been thinking of getting a Sea Kayak since I live on an island (and there's no rivers on it) but I have too many boats now.

I try to ride at least one day a month during the summer too, I love the looks from tourists when they see you with a snowboard when temps are in the 80s.

I'm training for a sprint distance triathlon in July. It will be a real challenge, because I'm an incredibly poor swimmer, and my knees are so screwed up that most of my training for the running leg will be on an elliptical trainer. I'm hoping to make up a lot of time in the bike leg...:)

I have my <a href="www.bikesnbrew.com">beer drinker's century</a> in August, and any time not spent swimming, running, or biking will go towards gardening, getting married (!), and a little bit of longboarding 'n' dirt surfing.

Hydrostreams are awesome boats, I would love to have one with a Merc 2.5 Bridgeport, throw on a Super Speedmaster lower unit and I would be in heaven

. I like all boats, well almost all boats, you can keep your typical jacuzzi/berkley jets. Outboards, i/o, v-drive, direct drive, surface drive are all boats that I would like to own. When I worked at a boatshop my buddy and I figured you needed at least three boats to suit your particular fetish that day. A direct drive tourney boat for wakeboarding and skiing. A deck boat to load up all the fine lookin' ladies and last you need a Fountain or something of that nature to just haul ass!!!

A few years back when I worked at a Correct Craft dealer, the shop sponsored a get together for Correct Craft owners. Parked all along the beach were all these Barefoot Nautiques, Ski Nautiques, Fish Nautiques, SkiTiques, Sport Nautiques, you get the idea. From the way downriver you could hear this high pitched whine coming up river. A few seconds later a Hydrostream passes by, trimmed out and riding only on it's cavitation plate doing over 100 mph. I was in awe as were my buddies that I was with, we knew what it was and how bad ass of a ride it is. The Hydrostream attracted the attention of the entire Correct Craft flotilla, one of the pompous owners came up and tapped me on the shoulder and said, " I bet it has a sh*tty wake for skiing". I wheeled around and told the guy that there were other boats besides his Ski Nautique that existed in the world and I would take a Hydrostream any day for just plain hauling ass while he could do his 45 miles an hour in his tractor that he called a Nautique. With a stunned look on his face he turned and immediately went to the manager and told him what I said. I was called to the side later on and given a firm lecture not to offend the Correct Craft owners, I quit shortly thereafter..
