  1. They showed a quick shot of his board as he was packing up, there was a 12" long string of P-Tex hanging off his base starting just behind his front food about an inch in from the edge.
  2. It's been a couple years since I've gotten in but I think Masters was 30+, Mid Masters 40+, Grand Masters 50+, and Super Masters 60+. I always thought when I went up one age bracket I'd have a better chance but the guys I couldn't beat at 35 are the same guys I can't beat at 50, They keep getting older too.
  3. I've had good luck extending the life of my snowboard gloves and kayaking/rafting gear with McNett's Aquaseal, It's a urethane adhesive like shoe goo that bonds well, and holds up to abrasion very well. You can find it in REI and EMS, but you'll find larger tubes in dive shops for wet suit repair for about $20.00, I always have a tube in my freezer for repairs.
  4. call this place, 1-800-394-7008, they do plating for a wheel company called Rally America (you could try them too). Here's another http://www.deterscustomfinishing.com/
  5. I started keeping a slimjim in the car a few years ago, I see at least one person a week locked out of their car and the parking crew attempting to open it.
  6. 4.35 a gallon for regular here today. I don't think my van will get much use this year if it's going to cost over $215 to fill it (at these prices). I think we'll get real close to $6.00 a gallon here this summer. It adds up real fast when the distributor adds over a $1.00 a gallon, then the station adds 25 - 30 cents a gallon. One of my friends is building an electric VW van with parts from a 3 wheel electric car, should have at least a 100 mile range. I'm seriously thinking about building one too.
  7. When I was a kid I had the pleasure of sanding and painting the bottom of my fathers boat every year (on the trailer), when I got my own boats I learned his trick and always found someone else to do it (working in a marina it was easy to convince the yard guys to do mine when they painted the other). For the last few years I've been taking care of a friends 70+ year old boat and remember why I like glass boats (for the lack of maintenance anyway).
  8. I live on a small island with a speed limit of 45 so they don't effect milage here, and I take the backroads to Baker and the maximun speed limit is 55 but only for about 30 miles. I use between 7.5 and 9 gallons of fuel (depending on conditions) going to Baker (240 miles) and this hasn't changed in thousands of trips.
  9. I have two older Thule boxes on my Legacy, One 1700 (for boards, skis and wet stuff) and a 1100 that we use for clothes and stuff we want to keep dry. I think I loose about 1 or 2 mpg but I don't realy notice it. There's plenty of room for a 200 tanker and never had to leave a board at home because I didn't have space.

    Phone Poll

plain old phone here too. I'm lucky if I can get a signal at my house, I only use my phone when I leave the island. I still have a rotary phone at home, I like the way it rings. I also had one in my shop, you'd be surprised how many people would try to push the dial. It would completely confuse kids under 10, they'd just stare at it, one little girl walked away because she couldn't figure it out.
  11. WW kayak / rafting I swear I'll ride my mountain bike more this year
  12. It's also a great way to break a 3800:(
  13. I'd rather ride than talk about riding, you've got a lot more posts than me, looks like you'd rather make posts and not admit your wrong.
  14. But that didn't stop her from getting hit did it? Maybe if you were looking around more the collision could have been avoided. and as for that pecking....I'll be waiting peckerhead:sleep: (sorry for the name calling, He's just an easy target)
  15. the question is, Is photodad teaching his daughter to look uphill and be safe, or does she have tunnel vision from the fullface and only looks downhill.
  16. If your not looking behind you (uphill) your as much of a problem as someone straighlining the run. If I was to make a quick turn and was hit from behind I'd blame myself as much as the uphill rider, just because I'm downhill it doesn't give me the right to cut someone off.
  17. That Mr. Man video is great, it's funny how little things have changed in Maine, we used to talk about the same things 30 years ago. I liked the blueberry rake reference, most people have no idea that you rake them. When I was a kid we'd get .07 cents a pound for them, the last year I did it we got a raise, .08 cents.
  18. I used to surf the oil tanker waves in my kayak as they passed my house, When I'd hear or see them coming I would paddle out with a whitewater boat and catch them as they came by. Everyday I'd see Perfect 3'+ breaking waves that just went on for hundreds of yards come past my house, how could you not want to surf them. A few years ago I saw some guys down in the Gulf that were also doing it but they used a Boston Whaler to get out to the waves.
  19. Maine has great weather in the summer, and sometimes the mosquitoes aren't to bad. I used to spend summers near Damariscotta because it was just too hot on Long Island. My brother is there now, He's spent a couple weeks a year there every year since he was born 40+ years ago. I think He's gone to the Union Fair every year since He's been born. Weather isn't too bad here though, it was 103 in Seattle the other day and it only made it to 82 here, 76 in the shade:cool: (it was 100 in the village but that's 12 miles away).
  20. The factory rack is only held on with sheet metal screws, I don't really trust it so I have one bar mounted to the rack and the other mounted with Q towers just behind the front door (so I don't whack my head on it). My ex's sister lost her bike from the top of her car in NY traffic, She was moving to Jackson Hole and had everything she owned packed into her Mazda, When she hit the Cross Bronx (or some other major road) she saw the bike bouncing from lane to lane in the mirror with cars narrowly avoiding it. After she retrieved it (and holding up evening traffic) the only damage was some minor scrapes and scratches. It made it the rest of the trip.
  21. The cedar fence, his wheels got stuck in the ditch and he took out about 100' of cedar post/barbed wire fence and dragged it along with him before it bounced back out onto the road.
  22. We had a plane make an emergency landing on a road here a few weeks ago. They had just had it serviced and someone forgot to remove a towbar from the front wheel, when they raised the landing gear it became jammed and eventually burned up the hydraulic pump and killed the engine. The pilot couldn't make the airport so he had to land on the road narrowly missing a car, the wing clipped a street sign and took out a fence but there were no injuries.
  23. Very nice. I went the whole season without buying any new boards:(
  24. I have nothing but good things to say about Jeff, Scott, and Catek. When the first series of FR2 Pros came out some parts were not as strong as they were intended to be and I was breaking them. I was able to call Scott on Monday morning (11 or 12 eastern time) and have new parts on Friday, when I broke those he sent out more parts and spares. After a few other breakages like mine they redesigned the parts and sent me them to try for a few weeks before the mountain closed, success, no more broken parts. That summer I sent the new prototype parts back to be inspected and received the new redesigned parts that are now on the newer bindings in September.
