what kinda "job" can you get at a resort, that really isnt a job?

So I can get employee housing? I just want to get back out there and train/ride :angryfire.

I found out what the rates are and im dumbfounded!

work nights at a shop, learn stuff like boot fitting and all sorts of ski stuff it really does apply to snowboarding in allot of cases.

It's nice to make friends with reps too, more than once they've saved my ass when I have a huge gear issue like a stolen board or having to score some boots before a trip because mine **** the bed.

if you can, find a shop that deals with allot of high end gear. race stuff in particular.

I can tell you have the love for the sport, with some time with talented boot fitters you'll make some good connections and learn some real valuable things and still have all day to ride.

I still on occasion see guys I met from when I was slingin' skis in MA a decade ago and it gets me the occasional "in" for jobs if I want them and deals on gear.

Most resorts want you to work full time to get their housing BTW, I've worked at a bunch but have had contact with most of them that offer housing, it has been a huge part of me choosing where I go.

the key to ski town dirtbag living: (hey, it worked for me)

Find a bed or a couch in a house with a lot of people. I lived 2 blocks from the base of Squaw Valley for $100 a month.

Know which bar has the best happy hour food. 25 cent wings and 50 cent tacos and dollar beers are all you need to survive a winter.

If there is a costco in your neighborhood, go in with your roomies and buy a membership - then buy a truckload of ramen noodles to tide you over when happy hour buffets are too crowded.

DO NOT live in employee housing. Also, do not sleep with anyone who lives in employee housing. those beds have seen more bodily fluids from exotic lands than the most prolific porn star.

If you can't buy a pass, get a job that comes with one (make sure it's not a job that requires you to work while the lifts are open). Either that, or make sure your roommates are ticket checkers.

I'm sure I'll have more...

that's why I say that DBs threads always turn out some off topic comedy. Like a crazy deaf uncle, I can crack on him in the same room( he's got me on ignore) Plenny of good stories about about living in ski towns .....livin' in a van down by the river ! doin' the chris farley matt foley dance !!!!

You're gonna end up eating a steady diet of government cheese, and living in a van down by the river! Now, young man, what do you want to do with your life?

Don't know the reason,

Stayed here all season

With nothing to show but this brand new tattoo.

But it's a real beauty,

A Mexican cutie, how it got here

I haven't a clue.
