davekempmeister
I know I'm getting ahead of myself, however, I've just learned that I'm going to be in Denver last week of november and am very interested in Silverton and doing some carving (Vail, Arap, Loveland). Anyone that's interested in hitching a ride to and fro from Denver Sun-Thurs/Fri. I'll have a seat or two open just about every day all that week. Flippin sweet! Pat Donnelly
Here's a bargain and probably the best early snow in the area: http://www.skiloveland.com/ShopNEW/page/4pak.htm
RDY_2_Carve
Silverton is quite a long way from Denver. Not sure if it would be worth it in November either. Link to their site They require shovel/beacon/probe too which you can rent from them I believe.
tex1230
you won't be doing much carving at Silverton - I don't think there's any grooming there. edit - I was wrong about guided only - that's Jan-Apr

It's a backcountry paradise from what I understand. Advanced riding too-steeps, cliffs, etc. I'm waiting another year or two as I don't think I'm quite ready to handle it. Guest
I believe he meant Silverthorne.
big mario
D.T.,snowboardsfast and myself call lovey our home, look anyone of us up and we will gladly ride with you. We might even be able to convince Rusty to come over from A-Basin. mario p.s. bring crabcakes!
davekempmeister
SILVERTON is accurate, not Silverthorne (although I did ride a skateboard in the parking lot at Starbucks in Silverthorne once). If there were anything to be had at Silverton at such an early date, I'd like to check it out. The timing is not lost on me either as I understand the dates would precede the "guided only" slide prone season. Might be a few hours drive, but I'll chauffer anyone whose been there and can be an "unofficial guide" (maybe even throw in a couple of beers in addition to transport). Lastly, I've no misconceptions about trying to carve there - I'd be in softies and even if the conditions weren't perfect I'd still love to see the place. You see, for the entire week I have absolutely nothing to do. Nothing.
davekempmeister
Where are my manners ? Thanks for responses and especially heads up on the Loveland 4 pack. I'll take one home back east and explain to the lovely Mrs. Kempmeister that a return trip in the spring is in order. Lest I be wasteful. Nothing. there is no starbucks in silverthorne. its in dillon. wish you hd the chance to check out the skatepark in silverthorne. its nice and got a good flow. and "few hours" to silverton's definitly an understatement. RDY_2_Carve
Not sure if this is the best path, but here's what mapquest said to do: Total Est. Time: 6 hours, 14 minutes Total Est. Distance: 325.29 miles Too bad nothing else in that area is open in late November...
D.T.
RDY_2_Carve - you beat me to it. The drive from Denver to Silverton is six hours in perfect conditions. Dave - you may consider Wolf Creek if they have snow. PS - Lovy good!!!!!!!!!!!! Shhhhhhh - just don't tell anyone.
davekempmeister
Thanks to all for more clarity on the subject. Looks arduous to be sure. I was under the impression that Silverton was a bit closer. Suffice to say I'll certainly post again as travel dates draw near. By the way, are the Loveland 4 pks transferrable? All the best. Pat Donnelly
Yes, they are transferrable but must be purchased in advance. Sales end Nov 20th and the on-line price appears to be $99.
ASU_snowdevil
I'm going to Wolfcreek Thanksgiving weekend, they are supposed to have the best early season snow it the San Juans... Not carver friendly I think, more like a less advanced Silverton with more lifts. They claim the most snow in colorado and the prices are very reasonable. Kinda small though. Anyone been there and care to share? (three rhymes booyah) Edit- They do "fun races" so there must be some grooming.
tex1230
Wolfcreek thanksgiving - I might be there the weekend before...probably going to ski though - don't trust my boards to early season snow.

And yes they get excellent snow year in and year out.

Let me know how it is, so I don't have to lug my warped rock board and my good one. Thanks.

Last time I was at Wolf Creek (two seasons ago), I was riding my 182 Tanker and wished I had a bigger board. Everytime I stopped in the trees I would be mid-thigh to waist deep in snow. :D
ASU_snowdevil
What time of year was that? Didn't even think about packing the o.sin 4807 in november... until now hopefully el nino + wolf creek combo make that possible.
ak_rider
if you're really up for silverton let me know. i'm moving to telluride in NOV, so i'll be in the area. if you're planning on making the drive all the way out there i'd suggest riding some resorts in that area instead of going all the way back to loveland or summit county. boostertwo
Give a shout if you make it to Vail. I'd be happy to share local beta and hopefully blast a few runs with you. <img src="http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m80/boostertwo/vic-wild.jpg" border="0" alt="Vic Wild, A-Basin, CO"> It's snowing here, again. Augurs well for a strong early season. Cheers, B-
