  1. Bob, just wanted to let you know I got the bindings last week, thanks! They were for a friend of mine, he's real excited to get them and that he's got step ins now. He's gonna put 1/2 on one board and 1/2 on another, riding the TD 1 standard on the front foot and an intec on the rear, so he'll have 2 boards with bindings and no need for a 2nd board kit. When(if 0 my schedule settles down in a few weeks I'll try and gwet in touch with you, maybe we can carve at Wa-Wa-Wa-chusett sometime. -Chris.
  2. Actually C-5, I did have some idea of what a Sturgeon looks like, but I'll still take a pix of a 10 footer! If I remember correctly, that's also the species that eastern Europeans and Russians use for caviar? It was actually a feeble attempt on my part to add some humor, a play on words as the topic of this thread and poll is spelling. (sturgeon-t=surgeon). Now that I look back at my post, I had 1 too many r's in worry. http://encarta.msn.com/media_461517395_761569681_-1_1/Great_Lakes_Sturgeon.html
  3. It's not that I can't spell, it's that I can't type. Some people may not be aware that they can's spell, and I see just as many grammar errors too. I'm an offender just as much as others, so I refrain from correcting anyone, so as long as I can understand what they are trying to say (or type), I don't worrry about it. So there is spell check? Where is it? You caught a 10 foot surgeon? What kind of fish is that? Did you use a stethescope for bait? :)
  4. You might also want to post a WTB (Wanted to Buy) on the classifieds section if you have not already. Also, what is his shoe size? That would be impotant to get something close in his boot size. I just saw a cheap Rossi alpine board on eBay, item number 7122615713, (not mine). It has soft bindings, but so what. Either tell the guy to keep them, or sell them on eBay after you get them. The board is certainly cheap enough. Yes, the auction has a long way to go before it ends, but as Chris Houghton mentioned, and I will back his opinion on this, eBay is a great palce to look for lighter riders looking for intro gear. This week in particular is a great time on ebay to score GREAT deals, as anything that could possibly sell wouldn't make it in time for X-mas, so therefore most people are so wrapped up in the holiday by now that traffic and interest on eByay wanes the closer you get to the 25th. 25th thru the 1st is holiday time, and skiers/snowboarders are out using their gesr at this point. I do my fair share of selling from time to time on eBay, and if I have not listed what I want to sell by the 9th of December, for a 1 week auction, I won't list again until January 7th.

    WTB: TD1s

Are you looking for standard TD 1's, or step ins?
  6. As far as your toe on the forward foot, your boots may be to BIG, or not tight enough on your foot. Although you may not be noticing it much when you are riding, going from toeside to heelside may be causing your foot to slide back and forth, and slamming your toe into the front of the boot, causing you the pain by the end of the day. I have worked in the snowsports industry for many years, and it is my humble opinion that 90% of the skiing or snowboarding public is in a boot that is too big for them. Also, when is the last time you clipped your toenails? You should consult a boot fitting professional to be sure you are in the correct size (and SHAPE) boot for your feet, and if you are already, then they can work with your shells and liners for a better fit to stabilize your foot and eliminate any fit issues.
  7. Barry, most everyone I know of that goes snowmobiling from the Boston area loads their sleds up and drive 4 to 6 hrs north, which basically means that they are either in the "Northeast Kingdom" area of VT, extreme northern NH, and northern Maine, or practically in Quebec. I have not personally done it, but I do know there are many tral networks up there, but I don't know about the rental situation. If you are planning on flying, I would guess that the closest major airport to any decent snowmobiling would likely be in Burlington, VT. NH airports are tiny, wouldn't get jet service, and I don't know if Bangor, ME is a big enough airport for jets, but Portland, ME is. i think VT would be a no brainer, but I would not rule out Quebec at all. Seems like they have all the snow. Vermont http://www.snowmobilevt.com/ http://www.vtvast.org/ http://www.pbpub.com/snowmobile/ new hampshire http://www.nhsa.com/ http://www.snowridermag.com/links/newhampshire.html maine http://www.mesnow.com/ Don't forget Quebec!
  8. Sounds like you are on your way to getting the proper carving technique down. Keep it up and you will be on the steeps in no time, but as you mentioned, where you ae now is a good trade off. Carving to most is more about technique than speed. You can get some "G" forces going at lower speeds too! With regards to the person who made comments to you, I find that when someone interjects their comment with "dude" or "like", they generally don't have anything of a positive or constructive nature to say. Yes, I'm making assumptions, but all that person likely knows about snowboarding is what they read in a magazine, or played on a Sony Play Station and just thinks boarding in general is as easy as buying a setup and learning how to huck big airs in a day. Freestyle is what is in the mainstream and is popular, so no sense bucking conformity in his eyes. If you have already learned at your age to blow off comments like that while keeping a cool head, you're alot further ahead in life than some adults that I know. You might want to read the thread titled "Heard in the lift line 2004/2005" for other colorful comments to expect while on a carving board. Usually I just nod and agree, (Like, whatever you say DUDE!), keep my comments to a minimum, and laugh to myself.
  9. I've ridden big Burton Supermodels (172-174cm) with Burton Race Plate bindings for 6 or 8 years with no issues, and I'm 6'3", and 250 lbs.
  10. WAY back in '89, on the Starship Gondola at Stratton with a group of skiiers..... Q: "What's that?" A: "It's a Snowboard m'am." (Everyone back then it seemed had to be a polite ambassador of the sport) Q:" Oh, one of THOSE things. Kind of a new fad, isn't it new this year?" A: "No m'am. Folks have been doing it for a good 10 years now m'am." All the while thinking... We're at JAKE'S home mountain. You think they's have a little clue? But obviously not, because a minute later, they looked down at the huge 1/2 pipe at Stratton and said... "I wonder what that ditch is for?" or one of two other scenarios, still repeated almost every time I go. Scenario 1) Q:"You're a snowboarder, eh?" A: "Yes m'am/sir." Skiier statement: "I hate snowboarders. They always scape away the powder so us skiers have nothing but Ice to ski on. I wish they didn't allow snowboarding." (Then the 300 pound wildebeest proceeds to get off the lift and either: A) sideslip turn down the whole mountain on their 150's B) pie turn down the whole mountain on their 150's Scenario 2) Q:"You're a snowboarder, eh?" A: "Yes m'am/sir." Skiier statement: "I hate snowboarders. I always hear them coming with that awful scraping sound. I fall because I cant concentrate with that awful noise they make. I wish they didn't allow snowboarding." (Then the 300 pound wildebeest proceeds to get off the lift and either: A) sideslip turn down the whole mountain on their 150's B) pie turn down the whole mountain on their 150's
  11. Bob, drop me an email when you get a chance, didn't get an invoice from you and your yahoo address bounced back to me. -Chris
  12. Hey willy, yup, you know da hood I'm talkin' bout! Ele é um mundo pequeno, não é ele? (Don't get excited about my Portuguese, I used a translation machine, although tho know Portuguese in Hyannis is becoming more important ona daily basis.) I know his house well, pass it all the time when I head uptown. I always scratch my head trying to figure out how he gets so much stuff in that little yard! I would have liked to have bought it back when it was for sale before the Real Estate market went berzerk, even though it is down in the swamp. I wouldnt want his flood insurance bill though! I live about 1/2 way between Gregg's house and your buddy's house. The next time you are on Ocean St, head towards Kalmus, take a RT on Gosnold, and as you go past the first sidestreet on the LEFT, look LEFT, and you should see my Jeep in the driveway in the second house on the left (white ranch). Street name omitted for privacy purposes for everyone else, but you know the hood and you cant miss me. Stop in the next time you are around. If there's both a the JEEP and a white BMW in the driveway, then I'm home for sure. If the BMW's not in the driveway, it could also possibly mean that its in the shop (Whenever I get it fixed, even for somethign minor, my mechanic is on his own time table so it takes FOREVER), so stop by anyways. I'd love to talk carving or wahtever, and thanks for the offer to carve, maybe we can hook up. Ironically I live next to my folks (I bought my house from my good neighbor's family when they decided to sell, couldn't turn it down cuz of the location), and my brother and his family live 2 houses over from your buddies, near the EXIT of JFK. I was also Gregg's brother's neighbor for 2 years when I owned a condo prior to my house. I have known Mike and Paul from Boarding house a long time, although I wasn't born here, I spent my summers here until I became an adult and moved here full time, so I know alot of the locals through being here such a long time. I met Mike when he worked at the Kandy Korner on Main St, probably 10 years ago, he started there when I stopped working there. He moved on to Ben & Jerrys, then the Boarding House. Him and his wife used me as a realtor when they bought a house last spring. They have always treated me right at the Boarding house so I don't shop for surf gear anywhere else. Not too familiar with the Skating scene though because I wasn't allowed to skate as a kid, and it would have looked foolish to learn to skate vert at age 21 when you are 6'3" and 200 lbs. I looked silly enough learning to snowboard at age 21. I learned to surf at age 19. A friend of mine had a roommate this summer, she worked at that Kite/windsurf shop in Dennis, and I know she had mentioned some of the rental gear was for sale, so that particular shop apparently did rentals.
  13. and another OT question Booster... How do you get a photo with multiple images/sequence of images on it? Is this a digital camera with that effect built into it?
  14. Kamran , here's another post to convince her. YES it can be done. I crossed over from skiing. My FIRST day of riding was on hardboots! And this was back in the day on Nordica 981 skiboots on an old K2 Gyrator the mountin had as a rental board. I was linking skidded turns by the end of the lesson. I am 6'3" and was 180 lbs at the time. I can't get out of my own way for most athletic activites, but I took to this sport like a fish to water, and I did it on hardboots from day 1!
  15. .....And get them while they still have them in stock, I was at the Startingate buying new Indy's this morning, and they said that Deelux has serious distribution issues this season and sizes/quantities will be limited.
  16. B-2, OT: I've seen your creative posts with the multi-framed exposures, but what the heck is this one? An altered multi-frame wiith hand retouch or something?
  17. I just tried on that same boot (well, the '05) in the same size this morning at the Starting Gate near Stratton. What a nice boot! And yes, due to distributorship issues, they will be hard to come by, whoever gets this boot will be getting a real nice boot for a great price!
  18. OK wWilly & Ben, I fixed the link. It was a little late when I posted last night. Ok, answers: NO RUST on the Jeep, no bondo, no filler, nuthin' but clean sheet metal. 100% original, I had to "import" it from Houston Texas. Its an '84. I live in Hyannis, right around the corner from Kalmus Beach, so I see my share of kitesurfers in the neighborhood, although myself I prefer traditional surfing. I also live around the corner from the owner of the "Wind Snow & H2O" shop lives. His shop occupies the spot that Spound Sailboarding occupied a few years back on Barnstable Rd. When I surf, I avoid "Whitey" by going further north than Chatham to surf up the coast in Eastham or Wellfleet. Rentals: I think the above mentioned shop does rentals. Also, In West Dennis, near the Bass River Bridge, there is/was a shop that did rentals, it was either Howlin' Howies, or a shop that occupied a space right near there. In Eastham, this Summer there is/was a new shop called "Little Outside" which did rentals. It is is a little house which shares a parlking lot with a sports bar/pub, but I cant think of the pubs name, It is just north of the driving range in North Easham right on Rt 6, on the right hand side of the road. "The Boarding House" had that same spot rented a few years back. I'll keep you in mind for carving up north, thanks for the offer!
  19. OOPS sorry Dan, I had just seen the skwal's about 5 minutes before reading your post and I blew right by "Volkl" on your post before directing you to eBay.
  20. I'm saw 'em on ebya too, I'm glad someone posted this and admitted using thee boots before I could. I had a pair of these too, I used them with my PJ6. It was so tough to find a pair of 13's in ANYTHING, so imagine my exiement to find these! (I got 'em at Madd Mikes in Boston). Some smart induvidual had already removed the gaiters, probably to make them more appealing to sell.
  21. I just bought a Jeep this year, an older one, and I was looking forward to showing it off as well as getting free tickets at the Jeep Owner Appreciation Days. http://home.comcast.net/~cdstonge/scram01.jpg I do not have confirmation yet, but someone told me a month or so they discontinued it this year. I may stop by the dealer to see if it is true, but I have not found anything on the web with reference to a schedule for this year. Maybe DC is too cheap and is trying to save some money?? (edit to fix broken link)
  22. Go by the mondo size only, don't get confused by the other sizes you mentioned, as mondo is the standard for hardboots. Another possibility that may be confusing you is that the 9 1/2 you are referring to could very well be referring to UK size 9 1/2, which is about the same as USA 10 or 10 1/2. Add roughly 1 full size to any UK footwear size to get USA size. As ski boots, snowboard boots (as well as other regular footwear) are marketed to more countries than the USA, they usually have multiple size standards on the box and/or product. Example: I wear a USA 13, which is roughly a euro/uk 12, a euro 46 or 47, and a mondo 29 or 29.5. By the way, a whole mondo size and the next half size up are actually the same shell and in innerboot. The only difference is that the "x".0 liner has a thicker footbed than the "x".5 liner, which helps talke up more volume, but after alot of use, a "x".0 footbed just packs down to be a "x".5 footbed anyways. Also, remember that euro size and mondo size are constant, there are not different size scales segregated for each sex. Here's a a link to adult, girls, and boys sizes: http://www.i18nguy.com/l10n/shoes.html then click "adult" or go straight to the adult chart here http://www.i18nguy.com/l10n/shoes.html#adult Kinda O.T., but still very useful info to proper fit As you likley already know, there is no substitute for actually putting a boot on your foot, as everyone's foot is different, and different shell manufacturers have different shell shapes. The worst mistake you can make, which is what 95% of the wintersports participants do, is ask for their US size, and just go up a size if they think its too small. They have no understanding about proper size, and the average sales person either ist knowledgable enough or doesn't have the guts to set them straight as it usually tough to tell "Testosterone Tony", the flatlander urban dweller, how a boot should fit in a tactful way, without him feeling insulted, especially when he only wants to spend $149.99 for the boot that is on sale. The customer wants the boot their buddy has, or the cool looking boot, the high price tag boot, or the one with the best reviews. If it doesn't fit their foot, they will never be happy, and 95% of the time, that is the case. Boots do not have to hurt, but they are not supposed to fit like a street shoe either. A custom footbed will also make a world of difference for you, and I cannot stress that enough. Even a simple trim-to-fit footbed for under 40.00 like a "Superfeet" brand footbed is a drastic improvement over the P.O.S. stock footbed that even the high end boots come with. So many people just put emphasis on the boot features and price. Some also comment on upgrading to a thermo fit or zip fit liner, which is also a great upgrade and a step in te right direction, but you still need to address the bottom of your foot. Buying a boot is just the first piece of the puzzle. A custom footbed will be molded for YOU, and will support your foot much better, giving you better performance, better leverage, better edgehold, and less fatigue and pain as the day wears on. Because the footbed is supporting your foot, it prevents ithe foot from spreading out, and sometimes you can even drop down a shell size without discomfort for a real high performance fit. If you don't have happy feet, then you won't have a happy time on the slopes. Now about those tube socks you are wearing.......
