  1. Probably sometime again in March, I'll post in the Ride-board....kind of a long drive ya know? But I'd hook up with the folks running gates at COP if you get the chance. -Gord
  2. Hey knuckle dragger, I'm going to be at Sunshine and Louise this weekend if you're interested in meeting up for some pointers/turns. PM and we can exchange contact info. -Gord
  3. I've done the one-board, two discipline approach...not recommended. You will lose on either end...either with too long of a sidecut for slalom or too short a board (i.e. not stable) for GS. -Gord
  4. Careful relying on the Recco system. From what I've been told by the Avalnache instructors with the CAA (canadian avalanche association) the RECCO system requires a large/cumbersom machine to be mounted into a helicopter...this would take awhile to accomplish in an avy situation. If you're heading out of bounds, get avy training, read the avalanche bulletins, have gear (incl beacons/shovels/propes) with training on their use and go with a buddy. -Gord
  5. UPZ liners, self-comformable - worn only around the house during fit-check. I ended up replacing them with intuition cause of my messed up feet. $50 + shipping Booster straps - two-strap variety (set of two) - used lightly by my wife. $25 + shipping. -Gord
  6. Go see a doctor and have someone hang out with you for a few days to keep an eye on you. ...one thing I've done for friends in the past is wake them up a few times during the night to see if they still know where they are and who they are...once one guy started getting sick and we went to the hospital ASAP, ended up with a stage/level 2 concusion and had an over-night. Take it easy though, Gord
  7. I'll finally be able to get to the mountains later this month. Although I am meeting up with a few friends coming from the ice-coast, anyone around for some riding at either Sunshine or Louise? -gord
  8. Ok welcome to Bomber first off. Alot of the gear being mentioned here is "boutique" or higher-end. You need to try some stuff out first and get comfortable with hardbooting before going custom and getting metal upgrades. A '98 burton is fine to start on, you can then snag a deal at the end of the season and upgrade if you'd like...which will start the "quiver" formation! Check out www.alpinecarving.com Scott has done well with giving good manufacturer recommendations and descriptions to get you started. Good luck and we'll see you out on the hills sometime. -Gord
  9. Hi Henry, THe lifters are plexi-glass type material (different thicknesses) cut out to match the shape of the toe and heel blocks. I also have some extra-long hard-ware that can be custom cut to the appropriate length based on how many or which lifter you'd be using... So no cant, just toe/heel lift. If you can find pictures, Fawcette used to run with something like this while he was riding for Burton...that's where we got the idea. -Gord
  10. Hi Folks, I have a few things for sale. 26mp Intuition Thermo liners (molded twice, lots of life left) - $70 + shipping 26mp UPZ thermo liners (they mold with your foot heat), never used - $50 + shipping Red toe bail and clip - Burton race plates Clear burton plastic base plate Extra lifters for under toe and heal blocks for burton plates, plus hardware - $20 + shipping Shipping from Fort McMurray Canada - T9K 2W2 make an offer. -Gord
  11. I used to run a 163 Burton Republik (comparable to the arbor??? dunno) and have found the 3800 to ride very differently. I still have to set the bindings back a bit for pow though, but not a drastic change. I also found the tail to be pretty stiff so that was slightly unexpected. Still a good ride, but like I said, off-piste oriented, but can still rail. Again I am riding SBs on them, so not sure about how the HB's will work. -Gord
  12. I got one last year and love it. I ride it with soft boots and have run it in trees, pow, grooms. It is a more off-piste oriented board since the huge taper makes it harder to finish your turns completely. Anyway, good luck, you'll love it. -Gord
  13. That is absolutely SICK!!! Awesome look.
  14. Get them checked in and around TO. There are a few good shops around that could check out your options for you before you go and sell them. Check in with Chris Hougton (sp?) on this board. He's down by Highway 7 in the west and may be able to provide some advice on where to go. From my memory, I'd recommend Senegal's in Newmarket/Aurora, but there may be better ones out there. Good luck, Gord
  15. It would be a long drive for me, but keep me in the loop on this one, I may join up for a few turns. SES, ahh yes, maybe in 2009...I need to get some vacation that is not wedding or family oriented... May be heading to Sunshine tomorrow if anyone is around...not 100%, but I really need to get on some snow! -Gord
  16. Some of us here are curious about the G-style boots. When you get some time, post some pics and a review. -Gord
  17. bastards...... Ok that's the jealousy talking
  18. I also rode some thermo liners (intuition) in my Burtons for a few years...awesome!!! -Gord

    Pants

My wife and I are looking for some new ski/snowboard pants this year. She is a size medium, looking for a good water-proof (10,000 plus rating) charcoal or black pant. I am looking for something in a size large (cargo style preferable). Again good water-proof and charcoal or grey in color. Thanks, Gord
  20. The boards are now junk, just sell them to me. I'll give you $5 shipped for everything you've got... :D Kidding, just hot-wax and hot-scrape a few times after you've had a grind and you'll be good to go. -Gord
  21. Hate to say it, but I saw a few guys at Jay Peak in 1994-95 riding asym burton Alps linking lay-out carves down the run (if I remember correctly it was called "Jet"). This concept isn't new. Swoard may be the first ones to try to make a layout-carve specific board, but they can't take credit for the concept, nor the style... we have been "euro-carving" or "extermecarving" or whatever you wanna call it ever since alpine carving began. -Gord
  22. Started out with Burton Race-plates...after breaking them constantly for 5 years, I switched to a set of TD1's. My board started showing some signs of topsheet damage, but loved the responsiveness. I've landed with two pairs of standard Catek OS1's . I love them. After I figured out the set-up, no more problems with the kingpin. At 200lbs, I need a stiffer binding. -Gord
  23. Phil Berube is a Canadian National team member and currently rides for Prior. These Scott boards are sick and they definately do rail. Phil has taken this shape to prior with the development of the new metal wcr. I've also heard that some of the smaller scott boards (175ish) are great for BX (if I remember correctly, it was Partice Bergeron on one at Nationals a few years back). He's new to the forum and many x-racers (such as myself) can back up how he takes care of his equipment and his boards. $300 for one of these puppies is a good deal...now if only I can get my wife to allow me another board... -Gord
