1. I can understand that, so in that case I would recommend giving it a good amount of kick to get that square end off the ground. Beginners can get hung up and spun around by square tails, I've seen it several times. The 1992 Burton M was like this - square tail (well, asym), with a good amount of kick. It worked and looked pretty cool. Short sidecuts chatter as speed rises, unless your board has lots of unobtanium in it, which would drive up the price. Also, the less sidecut depth a board has, the easier it is to make skidded turns and push it around.
2. Older Prior 175s had an 11.5m radius, now they're 11.9m. If you still question it, you can use the 3 point formula already posted. However it's a good thing Prior's are radial, because the 3 point formula doesn't work for elliptical or parabolic or anything else. I know this, because doing the 3 point calculation on my Madd 180 came up with 14m. I know this is false, because it rides longer than a 15m board I used to have. Madd estimates 16m, and that feels more like it. Taper will mess you up too, because the narrowest part of the board will not be the midpoint of the arc. But 4mm isn't much, so you should be able to get a number that is pretty close to accurate.
3. So glad you guys are going to this effort. However I'd like to see a rounder tail, like the Axxess. I've known several beginner hardbooters who were tripped up by a square or squarish tail, and when they moved to an all-mountain carver, they had an easier time. And yes, the sidecut radii seem a bit short. I'd do: 160 = 9m 164 = 9.5m 170 = 10.5m 176 = 11.5m 182 = 12.5m
4. the guru. I haven't taken a lesson in years, and may never again, but he trained me when I was an instructor at Sugarloaf in college.
5. dual camber, mega reverse taper... very strange.
6. does it come with a free can of Cougar repellent?
7. Giro 9 I have a big dome, and this one doesn't make me look like a lollipop, like my old Boeri did. I'm like you, grew up without helmets, kinda don't really feel like I have to have one, but this helmet is so comfortable and light, there's no excuse not to wear it.
8. Bola, We simply decided in 2003 that we're just not having politics in the main forum. This is not a comment on the validity of your post. Music while carving threads get posted every year. Yeah, they're borderline OT, but they're simply too harmless to bother. No matter what we do as mods, someone complains. We do this on a volunteer basis. We take time away from sleep, our families, our other interests, and we risk getting busted for it while at work. Sadly, we can't please all the people all the time.

10. I'm trying not to pay attention to this race until next year, but did I hear correctly that Ron Paul is really a mostly-Libertarian infiltrator? If so, I'm in.
11. check out the indy snow report video from Boss Hogg... http://www.sugarloaftoday.com/
12. we all believe exactly what we want to. however many "facts" as are presented by one side, the other side can put up as many that conclude the exact opposite. raise your hand if you watched the film FarenHype 911..... anybody? Bueller?
13. ooohhhhhh yeah. Heh. woops. I went back and looked at that thread. JJ was saying it is advantageous, not simply that it's fun. I still think that's... not right.
14. it's a Kawasaki. err, was.
15. Jumping in here late and without reading it because I owe Billy an email first... but I just want to go on the record and say yes, yes they are, and I'm glad when they can come here and contribute posts of substance. I'd also like to say that I envy racers in that I think they live in the outdoors a lot more than we do. Therefore they speak "internet as a second language", and it doesn't always jive with us cubicle dwelling, 60wpm typing, weekend warriors. Hey Rob... I for one much prefer to be called out explicitly than to have to guess, "gosh, did I do that?". Please let me know if we need to clear the air.

17. They sort at the facility. At least that's what they tell us. Also they accept a lot more stuff than they used to. Makes it extremely easy. Also in order to have non-recyclable garbage picked up, it has to be in town bags, which cost like $2 per.
18. Not necessarily. The sidecuts could still be single radius, but simply rotated. My Madd 180 has taper and I love that board. I don't think it's reverse progressive. Edit: what am I saying, Madd Mike says they're elliptical, so the sidecuts must be rotated for taper. Then again, you never know when Mike is intentionally keeping you in the dark... :D The new reverse progressives are actually two different radii for the nose and tail.
19. Circles, parabolas, ellipses, hyperbolas are all quadratic. However an ellipse is never a parabola and vice versa. But they can all be pretty close. Perhaps even insignificantly different. The term "quadratic" when used in skiing or snowboarding has come to mean parabolic. They're all conic sections: from here. I've ridden radial (Burton, Prior), parabolic (Burton, Donek), elliptical (Madd), tri-radial (Volkl) and I believe I enjoy the parabolic and elliptical best. However flex pattern and construction have a lot to do with it too. Very hard to credit just the sidecut geometry with the difference. However I will say stepping off a Prior wcr175 (11.5m) and onto a Donek 171fcII (11.2m) was dramatic. I've never ridden a progressive board - one that has one radius for the front half of the board, and a different one for the back. In theory it makes very little sense to me. I don't think you should be pressuring one foot or the other so much that half the board isn't doing anything. Nitro and I believe Oxygen were like this. Probably others. Longer sidecut towards the nose, tighter towards the tail. I hear they are now building pro GS race boards that are the opposite - tight nose, long tail. *shrug*. Whatever your sidecut is, I think it should be symmetrical front to back, at least in theory. Suppose I'll have to demo one of them thar new fangled reverse progressive thangs. Here is an article on some of the physics of sidecut: http://www.bomberonline.com//articles/physics.cfm
20. TD2, natch. Started on Burton Variplate, then Burton Race Plate, then TD1, then TD2. Since going to Bombers, I've ridden the Race Plates twice due to circumstances beyond my control. Both times, I felt like there were rubber bands holding my feet to the board. Very unnerving.
21. I think you've covered that one quite adequately already!
22. I make up for it by not driving an SUV. And our town has curbside sort-free recycling. We recycle about 50% of our waste. hey wait a minute.... did a customer of ski resorts just get on the envronmental stump? lol.
