Hmm... if you really like speed and are aggressive it could work. You're at the bottom end of the weight range for this board, so it will be stiff and will turn long and fast. Without knowing how you ride, I can't totally recommend it.
  2. What's the problem? Both boards will outperform any of us non-world-cup types. I would just get whichever one is readily available or cheaper or nicer looking ;).
  3. It doesn't make the connection between opening day and funny outfits, with which a lot of people probably aren't intimately familiar. I don't know what that means. I'm not saying the riders did anything wrong, I'm just saying "typical Transworld."

  5. Yeah, the problem with this is that Transworld didn't put your funny outfits into context. Early and late season is when all the wacky retro outfits come out of the closet, and probably a lot more people than you guys were doing it, but that wasn't mentioned. I think TW used it as an opportunity to make hardbooters look, as they said, like relics from the 80s.
  6. hi cassandrehv, welcome to the board. check out our links below for some info on getting started....
  7. Yes, I am a very timid rider. ;) What is the radius on that Burner 197? I don't think it was anywhere near 30?
  8. Seems like the SillyGood would need to be complimented by something shorter for days when you don't have the real-estate or conditions to go Mach 2...? Coiler NSR 185 worked great on the wider carving trails at Sugarloaf - "wider" by eastern standards, that is.
  9. Why would a person with 31" inseam ride 19.75"? Oh wait, I do that. Go as wide as you can without limiting your range of motion or comfort, you'll have better balance. I recommend lifts/cants to get there. I agree, get moldable liners and get back to us!
  10. what's your budget? $400 = my Madd 180 :D $700 = Coiler NSR 185 I haven't ridden the latest HB/Prior or Donek yet.

still available! you know you want it! price reduced - $400 plus shipping!
  12. I agree shin bang can be caused by a lot more than just stance width. Until you get it fully sorted out, going narrower may be a quick fix. Then change one thing at a time. I would recommend going as wide as you can without pain. See if you can get back over 19".
  13. This video is all over the internet with different subtitles lampooning many subjects. I think I first saw it about 2 years ago.
  14. What is your stance width and what is your inseam? With 3 and 6 degree discs set up properly (check the tech articles) you should be able to go pretty wide. I'm at 19.75" and I have a 32" inseam. I use 3 degree discs.
  15. Sugarloaf++; Saddleback may have some good terrain (I don't know) but it is not a resort. Sugarloaf has, imo, the best carving in the east, and a good resort experience. Their ski school is outstanding if you have small kids. Stratton as a resort is more polished, and they have more/better intermediate terrain.
  16. It doesn't, I was doing the same in '88. Didn't start hardboots until '92. However using 3 strap bindings made it very easy to switch to hardboots. They would, but I'm not sure sticking hardboots in strap bindings meant for softboots counts as "hardbooting". Anyone else?
  17. I agree completely! Now somebody buy my Madd 180! :D You know what this video makes me think... is that an old idea I and surely several other people have had might work... magnetic bindings. The retention would be somewhere between a regular binding and the NoBoard. You could retro-fit existing boots with a strap-on or bolt-on magnet, and the board with a metal plate screwed to the inserts. Hmm...
  18. Heh, I wasn't sure exactly when plates came out. I just picked the maximum 10 categories and ran with it. Hey, maybe someone out there MacGyver'd something together before '85 ;)
  19. Not just snowboarding... how long have you been riding Hardboots as your primary setup? Don't count 2010 yet. By the way, this poll was Shred's idea, but he didn't have time to post it.
  20. There's an iPhone App that allegedly does the same thing. No idea how accurate it is.
  21. Heh, you obviously haven't been to Sugarloaf in about... 20 years. Steph, we will not be seeing bobdea at the ECES. He has said here before, he deliberately avoids it. I think he's afraid of something. :p
  22. Depends on what you mean by "the best". If money is no object then you want to look at the World Cup podium where you will see boards like Kessler and SG, and those will run you about $1500. Also at that price level is Virus if you like sexy unobtanium materials. Then there's Prior at about a grand, and Donek and Coiler at about $700. Also at $700 are Volkl and Nidecker which have a good reputation and are available in the Bomber store. If you're cheaper than that, buy used.
  23. The very first item on the checklist is making sure you can do The Norm on your soft gear, and change edges before the board points downhill. And by able I mean do it comfortably over and over. It sounds like you may be doing that, if so you're probably ready to try the hardboots. You could mount them to your freeride deck to see how that goes and in the interest of changing one variable at a time, but you will probably find the limits of that setup in short order, like half a day. If your time is limited and/or precious, and you can carve your soft gear, just go for the RennTiger, it's a great board.
  24. great rider, but he hasn't raced in a very long time. i think the alpine market is pretty well saturated.
