  1. Not yet. It takes time to change paradigms of "accepted" equipment in racing. Sidewinders are relatively new. Even the gold-medal winning Karl-style plate has yet to completely replace the outdated Vist on the WC podium. And MikeC poked a good hole in your logic.
  2. amazing what is possible with no junk in the way.
  3. you said $2000, pop, and freeride board for use with hardboots... that all says Oxxess BX board to me.
  4. Agreed, because it frees the board up to flex naturally, so it allows the board to pop more. Very nice side effect I hadn't anticipated, but it makes perfect sense that it would do this.
  5. It was great on my Stubby 171. The Boiler does come with a weight and height penalty, but the performance makes it worth it. Also, you get used to the weight and height. Kind of like when you were a kid and you got the next bigger size bike. It felt tall and awkward at first, but then you got used to it and were terrorizing the neighborhood again. The only thing about the 5mm BBP for me is that it is carve-only. I don't like it for skidding or slashing turns, so I don't use it for all-mtn riding. My Stubby is my all-mtn board so my BBP is probably just going to live on my NSR 185.
  6. over 400 replies... keep the pics coming but let's start new threads folks!
  7. Donek Blade. Or custom Coiler or custom Prior. IMO the sidecut radius of nearly all all-mtn carving boards (Axxess, 4WD, etc) is too short for both carving and not carving.

Ross Powers friggen killed it! Unbelievable time of 1:18, compared to Seth's 1:24. "Official" BOL best was Dan Wagner (KneeDeep) on 3-straps at 1:35:27 followed by me at 1:38:45. Hardboots were at a disadvantage on this tight grizzly course. Winning boards were short BX's and Fish shapes. However I thought I heard jburrill's (on softies) 2nd run time announced at 1:28:something, but the pdf shows 1:48:08. *shrug*, he looked fast. Tons of nationwide talent was on hand including many USASA guys and former bx pros. FUN race, I recommend it next year, but not on HB's if it is on the same trail!! (Double Bitter - very narrow) Gonna pick up one of Seth's Kessler 168 BXs...

The trail the race is on (Double Bitter) is a narrow squiggly thing that will not be good for GS boards, or much carving in general. Actually it will go a long way towards equalizing hardboot/softboot gear. I'll be on my Stubby 171 and no plate.

  16. I guess if you want "80's arms" that thing works great! I'll bet it's the Canadians, they spent a bunch of money on that "own the podium" program last year.
  17. starts with dry streets and water coming in, ends with buildings floating away. watch the whole thing.

  19. lol, you beat me to it. Shred knows how to design a board folks. Buy with confidence.
  20. jealous. I'd be psyched for a conditions update on Friday, we're headed up for the weekend.
  21. So, Canada consumes oil at the same rate as the US, how evil!!
  22. when is it a skwal and when is it a skinny alpine snowboard? Seems like angles of 80/80 still give you a heelside and a toeside. that seems antithetical to the skwal thing, no? I also thought stance width was supposed to be a lot narrower, if not heel-to-toe...?
