  1. terekhov, not too familiar with Furberg. Do you use plates with that or softies only? Specs please! Looks like your cats are really checking them out...they look like mini linx, cool.
  2. The lug on mine got damaged when trying to remove the lug shaft to grease it. It was on very tight and I ended up rounding the lug when attempting to loosen the shaft screw. The only way I could eventually get it off was to wedge the screwdriver in as mentioned above and then turn the lug screw. It appears from your photo that it is similar damage so it'll just be a bit more of a pain to remove it when you need to. The rest of the lug shaft should theoretically be fine as it's a pretty tight fit in the block unless something happened when/if you already removed it before. And as snowboardfast said, it's probably best to check everything over regardless just to be safe.
  3. Not too sure, perhaps check with Fin or Michelle from Bomber first. It might be okay provided the lug shaft screw is tight but I'm not 100% so do so at your own discretion. One end of the lug shaft is squared but the rest is round. It appears the lug is designed to stop it from going through (as it is round). Kinda like trying to get the ol'square peg in a round hole...not gonna happen, which is a good thing in your case. I'd still get confirmation on the safety of riding with it like this...

Hope this helps.

  7. KTV- wow man ...that's crazy but I like. I don't think I want to go to that extent although it would get the point across...mah mah no pun intended ;) I'm with graham on this one that the addition of screws might be asking for your ticket to get clipped or worst case lawsuit from some raging skier/snowboarder/operator. I figure the Dakine spikes are more or less harmless and wouldn't be able to break skin/jacket in stock form. Graham, awesome idea of the clear hood film! Hmmm, I'm leaning towards, DaKine spikes, grip tape, clear film or any combination of these. I kinda wanna see what other kind of crazy is out there though...
  8. Hey benttech, I see your point to a degree. However, as this mag is targeting a niche market I see this as a huge advantage compared to putting out a run of the mill print mag on pop culture, music, fashion etc. The ones who want it, really want it and will buy it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the ones behind this (alexgforce) are most likely doing this for the love of the sport and not for the big bucks that other popular mags brings in. A great example of this is Toyota 4WD Magazine that has a huge underground following. They promote smaller fabricators and companies and from what I remember, has been growing in readership over the last few years. What a great opportunity for companies like Bomber, Donek, Coiler...the list goes on. It's worth a shot though isn't it? I love to sit down with a coffee and flip through pages and I'm sure I'm not the only one. It'll be interesting to see what happens though. I'm in :D

I guess I didn't search hard enough...sorry for a duplicate thread folks! I'd still be interested in hearing what others have to say or if anyone has any other pics.
  10. Anyone have any ideas for the best defence from lift line ignorance? My skis and boards over the years have been ravaged by impatient people who insist on skiing/boarding on top of me while waiting in line. This isn't a huge deal but just a reoccurring seasonal pet peeve. I've used the old method of tapping my ski/board up and down (like you're trying to get snow off of it) but that can result in more damage if they aren't getting the hint. And I've tried many times asking politely to stop running over my board/skis and some appear shocked by this simple request. Having established what I've tried, are there any other methods that have worked for you in the past? I was thinking of putting the DaKine Spike m'jigs along the tail but don't know how effective this would be. Perhaps a good deterrent...I remember seeing this somewhere on Bomber maybe? Thanks for any suggestions!
  11. What is this locked mode you speak of? You aren't talking about the lean adjustment are you? Anyone else fiddle with the springs much? If I remember correctly the bottom smaller diameter spring is for forward flex adjustment and the bigger seemingly shorter spring is for rear flex? And these work on the principles similar to that of setting preload on a fork/shock right?...it would make sense but just want to confirm. So many questions but any answers/clarification would be much appreciated! Thanks all!
  12. http://www.sharksco.com/home/ I believe Sharks only sells Deeluxe. And yes, YYZCANUCK...amazing service and product knowledge. Might be worth a phone call anyway to see what they have to say. I've been advised that if going the Deeluxe route (700T) don't worry too much about the initial liner fit as it's going to be heat molded. If you know your shell size that's a great start, then take it to a boot fitter. Good luck!
  13. Nick, 100% agree with the fit and finish. Definitely look and feel like high quality boot. And the green is much better in person. After almost a week of wearing these I can say that they do take time to mold and pack out. For those unsure of the fit, give them a chance, even 2, 5, 10 minutes at a time, just get in them put your weight on them, warm them up (with your body heat) and they will change fit...hopefully for the better. If you feel too much pain, give it a break, try again in a bit. That's been my approach so far and it's worked out great. My "issue" now is that I'm starting to feel the volume through the midsection of my foot. However, I'm not swimming in them by any means and my heels are staying planted. I'm going to try putting in the pads that were included that go on the liner at the sides/top and/or try putting thin layer of something-rather under the liner. It looks like the pads stick on with velcro. I also had to keep in mind that the fit changed quite a bit from when I was sitting to when I was standing. I really started to worry that they were too wide when I was sitting and pressure was off. When standing your foot widens with the weight of your body so this is more representative of how it will fit on the mountain (and prevents cutting off circulation). Just a simple FYI for others :D Tight micro adjust buckles: Yes, I had about 3 that were really tight and I thought I was going to break them but then they loosened up after I buckled up the boots a few times. Don't know why they did this but it seemed to work after a while. That all for now :D
  14. Good to hear. I'm holding out on heat molding as they are feeling awesome now. Indeed, I quite enjoy wearing these around my house in preparation for the upcoming season although I'm still getting the hairy eyeball from my gf...I'm not quite out of the doghouse yet for buying these :) Another update: Was in the boots for 30 minutes last night and everything is fine except that the second buckle is completely maxed out. I'm hoping it's because it's the warmer indoor temperatures. Does anyone else have this problem with running out of adjustment (or coming close) on the 1st to 3rd buckles? I don't really need them that much tighter but would prefer to have a little more adjustment for down the road before I fully commit to these. Thanks for any input.

  16. Have had the new boots on a few times and the fit just gets better and better. The extreme pressure in the heel is subsiding and things feel as though they are molding nicely. The heel is still very tight, but a good tight. The padding and material holding the heel in place is really, really dense so it's no wonder it takes a few wears (have had them on 5 times for 30-35min) for things to take shape and feel comfortable. I was a little concerned about the the five buckles and that there would be strange pressure points but I can get a nice snug fit clamped down with no pain now. I imagine I'll really appreciate the buckles for their range of adjustability on the mountain. These boots are ridiculous...I can't wait to really try them out on the snow

Hey now...I bought these because I was told the ninja green is a ski bunny attractant for when I'm looking all cool at the bottom of the hill joining the spectacle of Descente trench coats, weekend "warriors" exhibiting their Volkl Racetigers, and fox scarves. I need to get the UPZ walk down before the season starts so I don't look like a fool ;) But seriously, thanks for the input P.S. Racetigers (or any ski of that caliber) are great skis but no one around here seems to actually ski on them...at least not well : )

  19. Okay...here we go. Nick: It would be interesting to compare initial out-of-the-box thoughts even though our feet are different. Perhaps UPZ designed this super snug heel to be excessively tight out of the box so when it packs out it's just right...lets hope so! Puddy Tat: Indeed, I was wearing the boots although it was only my left foot as it's a 1/4" longer so it's always my tester foot. Glad you got a chuckle out of it : ) Allee: My plan exactly, wear them as much as possible for the next month and a bit until I can get out onto the snow...although it's probably better there's no snow right now because I'd put myself through pain and suffering of breaking in new boots on the mountain. Randy: Bah! Haven't tried them yet! I couldn't contain myself...I become a child with new toys. Get in the green! QQ: I've read up extensively on these boots before I got them and there does seem to be a divide for those who don't mind the liners and ones where they bring on discomfort. I am prepared for the alternative however I have a feeling they'll be fine with a few more hours of wear-time. Heel review: I've had them on now for half an hour again (both feet now) and they feel pretty good. The heel on my right foot feels awesome whereas it's still tender on the left. I've been trying to stand in them as much as possible to so as not to cut off/slow down circulation to my feet and keep the blood flowing to give them a fair chance. Toebox: Still roomy but I notice it more up and down and less side to side. Probably good for wiggling toes in the cold and I won't (hopefully) be getting to much side to side movement when it packs out. Flex/Shell: So far I love the flex on these. Very consistent flex all the way through. No change of fit, or pressure points developing through range of motion. I found with my Head's I'd feel pressure (aside from the expected) on different parts of my foot and ankle as the shell contorted through it's flex...it was painful. One thing I noticed...why can't I seem to walk in these (other than the fact they are hardboots)? I feel as though the heel is tucked so far forward that it gives a false sense of security. Big difference compared to HSP and my ski boots. Not a big deal just thought I'd mention it. P.S. 45 minutes in and feeling better and better...time to take them off while I'm ahead :D
  20. Oh Canada Post...leaving a $625 pair of boots on my doorstep for the taking At least I could try them on faster :D Been in them for 5 minutes now and feel good out of the box. No problems getting them on either. My initial concern is that the heel is really, really narrow. It's a wonderful snug fit but will this pack out...soften? It's borderline pinching on the soft tissue below the ankle bone however I'd hate to give up the snugged-down feel for heel slop. I know many of us battle with the lifting heel syndrome so don't want to complain too much :rolleyes: The toebox is roomy for my average D width foot and not as wide as I was expecting...this is a good thing for me. I'm sure over time it'll get a little roomier too but I suppose my foot isn't going anywhere with that heel. And the green looks better in person. Boot flex seems really consistent but the test will be on the slopes. I was thinking these would be really stiff but to my surprise they are not. I have the black tongues and the flex for my just sub-200 lbs is great. Quite a different flex pattern than the HSP's...hard to explain but I like it :D More review to come. P.S. Heel is already feeling better at the end of me writing this but would still appreciate any comments on the matter!
  21. Best bang for buck for snow/ice performance: General Arctic Altimax. I was very reluctant at first as I was set on a few others but then I read the reviews, bought all four corners and was blown away. Made in Germany Same tread design as: Nokian Hakka 5 Nokian RSi Gislaved Nordfrost 3 Wanli Challenger Hankook W409 I'Pike Pirelli Wintercarving Did 3-4 hour commutes in all sorts of conditions the last few years with these and are very predictable. Great wear on them too. Not superb in deep snow however I've never been terrified or felt not in control in 6" of snow in my front wheel drive. This tire performs wonderfully in average everyday cold weather driving.

Bah, if I get out 4-5 times it's all good : ) No super-unobtanium just regular :D However, there's talk in the biz about experimenting with a new metal core that responds to earth's true magnetic north...something like Gyrokore? Apparently helps with stability and maintaining good balance throughout the turn ;) Note: Please do not go emailing and calling Bruce about this or my board may never get made!
