  1. props to JG for documenting this whole thing...which is becoming apparently becoming an obsession for some... FYI, all need for better quality is a dig. camera...I have an old Canon PowerShot SD300 - that would be fine...just make sure you have the video on the highest framerate/sec....you don't need a full out camcorder rig (though that would be "ideal.")
  2. I think S. Oreccio has made some good points on this topic, which seems to surface constantly on BOL. I used to be an FS "hater." Now I enjoy watching them; if, for nothing else, some of the wipeouts are spectacular. It's an age thing. It really is. I'm approaching 30 of I don't know many guys whose bodies would even hold up to some of the impacts they take. Being "gangster" is a problem with youth in general. Hey, it's cool to appear uneducated apparently. It just translates into boarding. I will say, however, that bandanas a la "bank robber" style DO keep you warm- better than some full face balaclavas. I know there are people on this board that are probably secretly jealous of the FS'ers. The good ones get all the attention, and of course you have to have balls to do some of that crazy stuff. I've been meaning to try it, just haven't gotten around to it- though I'm not eager to launch any huge jumps. Weren't most of us obnoxious teens at one point? Attitude changes (being more open) would help both alpine snobs and obnoxious /disrespectful FS'ers
  3. really glad i didn't have my alpine board.....snow very soft and runs generally very busy...saw one guy with plate bindings (not sure what type of board) but did't get a chance to say hi....
  4. with my girl. i'll be riding my soft setup (but i have a Trench Digger sticker on my helmet)....white pants and jacket, black helmet, i'll be everywhere....may have my camelbak on....will def. say hi if i see you guys....i'll be there early only until noon at the latest Barry
  5. with the chica - if the conditions are decent. likely will not ride with the carving board. I must see this crazy board of yours that I've heard about. what slope will you be on mainly?
  6. by the carver. First he cut someone off then he carved a semi-circle when he shouldn't have.
  7. i'm gonna leave the carving board home....didn't think of using it UT in dec and i think it'll be the same out here....it's a hassle to bring 2 boards and 2 pair of boots....anyway, i'm in all white pretty much, black helmet with "trench digger" sticker on side....hit me up if you see me...
  8. friday - half day (we'll be getting there late morning) sat. and sunday....as of now, i'm NOT bringing my carving board b/c it looks like it's all powder....thoughts?
  9. so Thursday is my "acclimitaziation day".....(i live outside of DC, pretty much sea level) .i'm with 2 other dudes, Friday is our half day, b/c our whipped friend from TX couldn't leave the girl earlier, so we'll likely have a half day at winter park. Bluebird, that would be AWESOME if i could catch a ride with you! only problem is i'm spending thursday night at my friend's place in the Denver area or suburbs....i'm assuming that's too far for you to come? will everything be groomed for SES?
  10. I'm arriving next Thursday and will be have 2.5 / 3 days of riding...looks like all powder! should i even bring the carving board? I'm thinking no.... any recs for Winter Park restaurants, bars, even trails?
  11. Apparently Larry Czonka is documenting this crazy event in AK.... http://www.larrycsonka.com/ some clips of hardbooters
  12. All, I have 2 boards w/ 18cm waist width. Not that I'm getting my edges anywhere near 90 deg when I ride, but it seems that Burton's plastic universal cant (the round one) has to be modified to fit on these narrower boards. I filed it down the last time I rode an 18cm WW board ('06) and now, as I'm about to finally get on the other 18cm ww board, I find myself having to file it down again. Well, maybe i don't "have" to, but I don't think it's a bad idea, and it certainly looks better. Has anyone else had to do this? Should I just use the plastic wedges? I can see why some guys have resorted to building their own risers (if you're handy). Please advise.
  13. great pics! they have a new "archive" collection..check the gloves out! http://www.burton.com/Gear/Default.aspx#/archive/collection/subcat/subcat.swf http://www.burton.com/default.aspx
  14. possibly, though getting a bit tired of the drive out there....tail and lib both have more trails open now, including some which are likely good carving trails that don't get a lot of use (that trail to the left of Limelight at 'Tail and the one all the way on teh left , backside of liberty) email MAC list
  15. i am of similar weight, a bit more experience. you guys out west are not riding the small hills and dealing with the meat gates we do, so please, understand that a smaller board can also have to give the smaller guys a piece of mind. half the turns you do out west will surely get you in a collission over here...i was riding my burton speed 154 this past weekend...i don't feel like taking the 163 Freecarve out...of course riding more will help, but i did the smaller board too

    Ouch

it'll go up. it was at 120 this summer (shoulda sold it then). datacenter consolidation is huge now and VMW has a huge % of the market.
  17. i think on epicski.com explaining how skiing like that is a major knee injury waiting to happen...which seems plausible. seems like you need a ton of strength to do that.
  18. sorry for chuckling, i guess it's just bad luck...i had on news radio (WTOP) as i was getting dressed and happened to hear that northern VA kids were out today...I met Mike (Boardman73) and toward the end of the day we took a few runs on MInuteman...it's was near empty!!! (hard to see though, b/c the sun was going down and lights weren't on yet). I'll just wait a lot of times for masses to clear, though there is somethign to be said for learning to make narrower turns IMO..... ttyl barry
  19. pleasure riding with you...Neil, sorry I missed you....good running into you, though.
  20. I completely understand Scott's gripe. Whitetail is the resort I had my pretty bad collission last year (out all season, taken out from behind as I made a wide turn). People ride like they drive around here - with little regard for their own or others safety. Half the time only a few blues are opened (no blacks) so you have a disproportiante number of riders on the blues during the weekend. It is simply dangerous making a wide turn, especially how Scott likes to ride. The options you have are go during the weekday (may do this tomorrw) or hit Roundtop- it's a lot "less corporate" and a lot less crowded. Even 'Liberty is less busy. Or try 7S, which is supposed to be the best day trip from the DC area. And I agree with others, WilliamBlake, your response was unecessary. I've ridden with Scott and Holly a few times and they are both very friendly people. If he doesn't wanna ride like you think he should, that's his choice.
  21. i'ts 10:30pm and i'm stuffing my face with pasta....snowboarding isn't on my mind right now, lol. it's b/w 'tail and top for me tomorrow, if I go.....if i see anyone on plates, i'll approach and introduce....
  22. though generally not a fan of whitetail, going on the weekday is the way to go....so i'll likely be there or top (it's quite a bit farther) on friday.....
  23. i knew there was a reason i dig SRT... saw some of the racing team and then talked with Sam (works there I believe)...he was tearing it up on his Donek. Met another guy on plates, says he not in any groups or anything... I stayed on soft setup the whole time... anyone else there?
  24. likely on my soft setup at least half (if not all day)....i'm in all white and have a Trenchdigger sticker on the helmet...i'll say hi if you're in plates....please do likewise....
  25. sounds like you guys are heatin' "Tail up! Rich, now I gotta see this board of yours...I got custom graphics on mine, but it's not a mirror like yours! will be at roundtop tomorrow...perhaps tail on MOnday, i have a feeling it'll be packed though...
