  1. I'm 5'6 and 160. I ride the frs fairly aggressively. Side by side the coil seems to be more flexy than the frs and that's what's got me stumped I guess. In my mind the coil is for carving, but its not as stiff as the frs is. Just doesn't seem to make sense to me. Maybe it's the length? My coil is a 156 and the frs a 160.
  2. so yesterday i went up to hunter mountain to get some weekday runs in. ended up hanging out with one of the instructors there who was riding a hardboot setup. after spending a good chunk of the day with him, i was thinking about giving it another shot. i broke my shoulder back in 2004 on plates and got skiddish after that. i have a burton coil 156 stashed away in my closet. (my regular board is a salomon frs 160), so the question is, should i be riding plates on that board,(the coil) or is that more of a soft boot ride?
  3. looks like they dont make the nxt-frx anymore. im intrigued by the design of the flow bindings, what's the most current incarnation of the frx?
  4. Current setup: Salomon frs (160) Burton driver boots Burton cfx bindings Was thinking of upgrading my bindings to the 2013 salomon caliber a but no one local sells them, which leaves online as the only purchase option. Normally I would look to bring my boots to the shop to make sure they fit properly. Since that's not an option I figured I'd turn to you guys for advice. I know most of you ride plates and hard boots but I was hoping someone might have knowledge about the caliber binding and the compatibility of the driver boots with the salomon bindings. Thanks everyone!
  5. I ride 39/27, burton cfx bindings, on a salomon frs, with burton drivers.
  6. no one mentioned it, so i figured id chime in. Ive been riding burton drivers for years already. nice and stiff, no complaints. i dont know if they still make them anymore, you may be able to get left overs for cheap if you look. scott
  7. anyone going up to hunter mtn tomorrow?
  8. i ride 39 front 27 rear in softies. i find it to be very comfortable. i tried duck briefly when i first learned how to ride, and it was REALLY uncomfortable for me.
  9. Love my burton drivers. had them for a few years now, still ride like they are brand new.
  10. i saw a special on this on tv a while ago. apparantly there is some sort of growth regulator in the genes of the male of one, and the female of the other. so, when you crossed the opposites (the ones without the growth regulators) it causes the cat to be abnormally large. i dont think that means it will grow forever though.
  11. go get checked out by a doctor. he'll perform a series of tests, and quite possibly an MRI. do it ASAP, the longer you wait, the longer the healing process if it is in fact a torn rotator cuff. last year i broke my shoulder right where the cuff attaches to the bone. it healed, but its still not 100%, and i took care of it right away. good luck
  12. I still ride soft boots, although i dont consider myself to be stupid by any stretch of the imagination. I can carve pretty well in them actually, and im still working on my transition to hard boots. IN any event, im riding a Salomon frs, which i absolutely love. its a pretty stiff board, not sure you'd want that for teaching. I also have a salomon fr 400, which i think would be a little better/more comfortable in a slower teaching type situation. My boots are burton Driver's which are seriously stiff for soft boots, very supportive. Search ebay, you never know. I bought my FRS for about 120 bucks shipped, which was a steal. The board was hardly ridden. I wish they still made those, that whole series rocked.
  13. me neither lol........i got attacked by myself not bending at the waist and pulling something in my back.......filling up the humidifier of all things. i will be there this weekend for sure though. time is running out, i need to get my days in.
  14. i'll look for you, maybe we can hook up. i've got a blue helmet, blue/beige jacket, purple salomon frs. i'll be there early also
  15. anyone riding hunter this sunday? i'll be there with my salomon frs, because im too much of a wimp to keep at my hard boots!
  16. thanks for all the great tips. i'll just keep at it. If i can get to stratton this year i'll be sure and drop you a line ahead of time. Scott
  17. okay, i know something's not right, but i can't figure out what it is. ive been riding softies for 9 years now, and ive always found that i leaned more towards the carving side of snowboarding. I can carve pretty well on my soft boot set up, (salomon fr 163, burton driver boots, burton cfx bindings), my angles are 39 front, and 27 rear. Ive learned a TON from browsing the message board, and reading the articles. My soft boot carving has improved 100X since i started visiting this site... Okay, so far so good. .......Before i found this site, i would watch hardbooters from the lift and think "i want to do that", so without doing much in the way of research i bought a burton coil 156, and race plate bindings, as well as burton reactor boots. Last year was the first time i really gave it a go, and i ended up breaking my shoulder, not a good start, LOL!. Yesterday i gave it a shot again. Unfortunately Hunter was mobbed and there really wasnt enough room for me to get comfortable. (i rode my soft boot setup in the morning) In the few runs i attempted in hardboots, i noticed a few things that maybe you guys can help me out with. im not sure if its me, the setup, or both. i find that i cant flex the boots like i can in my softies. The Driver is not a hardboot, but it is pretty stiff for a soft one. The only way i could even come close to feeling like i was flexing was when i put both boots in "walk" mode. i still felt like i was way to straight, and not flexing enough. The boots then hurt my shins pretty bad. A few times i could get it going and feel pretty good, but not many. The coil is vey carvy compared to my other board, but i swear i think i could have mounted my cfx's on there and ridden it better than i did with hardboots. i want to lay it out more than you can imagine, but im just not getting it together. Any help would be great. thanks Scott
  18. i'll be there tomorrow. i'll be in my softies till the lines get long, then i'm taking out the hardboots and heading over to hunter one. im still learning, and the last time i was on the carving board, i broke my shoulder. So i figure i'll just take it easy over on "one" for the rest of the day, and see if i cant figure this thing out.
  19. here's my best advice to you. If you decide to go to hunter MAKE SURE you are waiting on that lift line when the liftie blows the whistle to start boarding. If you get on that lift at 8:30, (or possibly earlier if they are feeling saucy that day), you'll give yourself a solid 2-2.5 hours of good riding without it being ridiculously crowded.
  20. lots and lots of cow manure.........about 15-20 yards per plant. when there really motoring along, the vine will grow 12" or more a day, and the fruit will put on 25-30lbs a day. you can almost watch them grow!:D
  21. i grow giant pumpkins..........personal best 1030 last year. New pumpkin patch this year, so im not counting on repeating last years efforts.....look for me again in 2005....
  22. im thinking petes wicked oktoberfest........too bad i cant get any EVER, unless im willing to travel 300 miles for it. Stoli -o.......warm then of course theres always double bag......my beer of choice when im riding in VT.
  23. how about one last run........oh isnt that always the way? its my second year on a board, im riding the edge of a trail, and i fall. i put my left hand down, and i end up falling on my thumb, bending it completely backwards. Tore most of the ligaments and tendons in that connect my hand to my thumb.....took a year to heal. fast forward to super bowl sunday of this year. A few hours before Janet Jackson flashed the world, i was making my first turns on my carving board. Im just starting to get the hang of things, when i get a little tentative on a steeper slope. i slow things down and just got caught up somehow. I go in the air, and the first thing that hits the ground is my shoulder. A non displaced fracture of the upper tuberosity (the ball part of the ball and socket)....1/3 of the way in from the outside of my shoulder towards my head......and a complete break all the way through. No ligament, tendon, rotator cuff damage though, so i was lucky. Things healing up nicely now, should be out on the Mtn before the end of the month! Scott
