@Lurch it looks like your quiver connector is different from mines! I have the intial release of the bindings which didnt have the eva footbeds so i guess they changed the connector also
-
Ive just sent an email to karakoram asking what they can do and if they still have any of there orignal all metal quiver connectors about that i can have

yeah it was fine i just spun out on my heel edge the only thing that was hurt was my faith in the bindings
-
@lonbordin It was my donek incline i was riding. The quiver conector broke apart as i went from a toe edge carve into heel
-
Guess who just broke a quiver connector and ripped the binding Clean off the board....

ive used unions so i check bolts pretty regularly lol

@Jack M I do ride hards from time to time I just prefer softs for the ease of walking about and being able to jump on friends boards

With the tweaking of the binding set up to it fully dialed in and a bit more time spent on them all i can say is WOW the karakorams pretty much wipe the floor with every other soft boot binding ive tried in terms of stiffness and response. The response and support makes changing edges from tight low and slow carves significantly easier previously there was a delay as id move to change edge the bindings would flex to an extent before the board would move. With the much stiffer chassis of the karakorams there is no delay if i move the board moves. Also with a bit more use the ratchets are a tad more smooth now on and off as i had a feeling would be the case
So in conclusion these bindings are very much living up to expectations so far -

Thanks Jack! Able to view this in NZ too. I think this is the best form of giant slalom. Would love to see our current crop of racers and equipment on a course like this.
its pretty much my idea of what snowboard slalom racing should look like also

seen and edit of multiple peopling binning it at the same turn. Kind of suprised they didnt try to fill it in as it looked pretty damn dangerous...

"Green 4 carving plug-in" was on of the videos that properly got me started on down the rabbit hole of teaching myself the japanese style of carving.

..it you look carefully on the vids, you can see they are never pushing it hard and linking turns...or when they push hard its frontsides and there is a editing cut so you don"t see the guy recovering.
Ive had that feeling alot since the begining where its clever editing making the riding look more impressive than it actually is

Spent a few hours on the karakoram bindings tonight intial impressions are very very encouraging they are easily the most responsive soft boot binding ive ridden and fortunately there appears to be 0 play in the connecting mechanisim and it seems to lock very securely.
The only couple of downside i found are the default forward lean angle of 12degrees is way to much so my front foot i generally run 0 forward lean on the front and about 12 on the back so it was half right. unfortunately adjusting the forward lean to anything other the defaults needs an allen key and a spanner/socket so i just grinned and bared it for my riding time.
The other little downside is the ratchets are very sticky and dont really want to slide closed instead i kind of put in the ladder and start ratcheting. The release of the ratchet is also kind of sticky and not so easy. Now i will say i have a sneaking feeling this is due to the teeth on the ladders being more pronounced and aggressive than whats on a normal soft boot binding. I have feeling this stickyness might in a way might be abit of long term benefit in terms of durability and strength which ill take any day over easy sliding but easily broken ratchets.
a bit more further set up and i have feeling the karakoram ci's will probably be right at the top of my list in terms of soft boot bindings.-

BTW, I took a good hard look at it and with the boots on it does seem like there's slightly more heel overhang than toe. In a very uncharacteristic move on my part I am only changing one thing at a time and moving my bindings one hole towards the toes. It does look more centered now. I will have to test it and see if there's any improvement on toe side initiation.
It would explain why heel was much easier than toe to initate, Ive noticed that im pretty sensitive to not being centred on the board.

tried them on surprisingly soft, no ankle pivot due to the soft boot style construction means forward flex is through deformation of the shell and it being so soft i have a feeling it wont maintain its support for any more than a year. theyd be fun for powder but for price £400 last time i looked there not worth it for the expected lifespan

Salomon quantum are reasonably responsive heel to toe my biggest issue with them has always been the sideways flex on the bindings due to the soft heel cup.

I got delivered on thursday intial impressions are pretty positive my only concern is the ankle strap might be a little soft or stretchy for my liking but well see how they are when i get to ride them monday night

I'm curious as to how its so aggressive does it have alot of camber? My incline is spec'd with one of there stiff cores and the side cut range is actually smaller 9-11 and its not really that difficult to ride but it doesnt have a huge amount of camber.
-
Yes there is no issue with that on normal disks :).
I kind of forgot about burtons disks since i use the older style disks that are non relfex. Im curious if ryan uses reflex disks or the older ones like myself -
Most disks are intended to be used either way with the exception of mini disks which can only be used to alter stance width. I generally use them to fine tune my boot position across the board since my prefered stance is often the reference stance.

neil i take it your riding angles closer to your alpine set up rather than duck?

I have another set too just a little wary they'll fail in the same way as I'm guessing it's why the design was changed
