  1. Aloha and Mahalo...till again the ColdSurf returns Happy Bob Somebody laid some track on the Bowl yesterday...
  2. Whoa...Surfin ain't so hard... :) I am trying to get the Radical Rodents on an Alpine Stick in the future :)
  3. Mr. Diamond has contributed in a number of positive ways to our World... Two Books on Mans impacts in different societies that I found fascinating and knowledgeable... "Guns, Germs and Steel" and "Collapse" just the arrival of the europeans in the Americas devastated most of the populace at the time through disease...and an army of thousands defeated by a few hundred on horses with firesticks...
  4. and the result is...absolutely disgusting that this happens when it does not have to...Food for thought indeed. Just what exactly is this one poor Bird worth
  5. I have two friends that have had both knees done at the same time and are both in their mid to late 60's...an intense option to be sure with much rehab required...both are happy with results and one maintains their bike and boarding joys as one is able to hike like they used to...:) and another... Joey, who is now 71 and Bikes, Surfs, Skis and Carves all with dakine Style he had before...a mentor for us all :) My Sister who is now 69 had this done 12 years ago and went from being a total invalid to once again walkin round the block :) From what I have seen...I would not hesitate myself if and when required.
  6. Yes, and Surf Film legend Greg MacGillvray some of the Cinematography Greg of course went on to do such Imax films as "TO FLY" and "EVEREST" as well as many others...started with an old 8mm camera at newport in the late 50's filming friends hanging 5 in the beachbreak...
  7. How many fellow Carvers did you see on an average day riding? Here in Aspen, other than SES and WCS it was around 4 at Milk, 0 at Highlands and 1 at Ajax...
  8. Have never given my Snurfer away...:(
  9. Board...$4,000 Boots $500 Footbeds $100 Bindings $500 Plate $500 Step ins $125 Bogner outfit $2000 Goggles $150 Week at Heli operation $6000 Bottle Of Champaign to celebrate Bank Loan...:) $30,000 Wow
  10. Where You Ride...Colorado Dry :) or East Coast Plate is one example Racing gates or Freeride is another example What works best for each after some experimentation should be correct... De Tuning does not mean Dull necessarily?
  11. Again, this is really Great Inspiration Mr. Casper...
  12. Wonderful...shows what practice can do...Smmmoooootttthhhhhh I must say that riding Duck is where Fakie/Switch came from but to me this is way harder as you are really going Backwards...not forward in both directions... I also am aware that many HB racers can ride backwards with Style as well... I do this myself at slow speeds to dial in my edges better...no nothing like this Casper Carving is a good name... and I have never seen anyone do it as good as this...Bravo :)
  13. Does this look like your local hill when you ride ? This is a piece of 35mm film that was shot 4 days before the earthquake in San Francisco in 1906...the camera was mounted on the front of a Cable Car and is heading down Market street... http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=NINOxRxze9k
  14. Wow...I really like the whole perspective on the last shot.. Wondering where your glove is on your left hand in the 2nd shot of a frontside turn...?
  15. Once you become used to COLORADO SNOW it is extremely difficult to ride on anything else...:D The Boys are Chargin Dave!...how I loved those years with Rob
  16. That would be sketchy...maybe a different stance and foot locations would work though? How delicate the Balance and Input... :)
  17. Why has the "Goddess" been sitting in a Ski Shop window for the last 3 years under the Silver Queen Gondola here in Aspen ?
  18. Wow...129 I am calling it quits at 127 unless Pow for next weekend... Headed to Hawaii next Mon... maybe add some days there...
  19. Pushing the Parameters... Maybe try the reverse as well Back foot in binding and the front foot loose? :) This is in Pow ? or on groomed too? My own experiences here are few, however Seems to me that one foot locked is needed to give enough leverage for the other foot to spin freely ?The lazy susan idea has been around a long time...should just take some serious practice to enjoy that ride...
  20. I tested this out recently when one of the two bolts that hold my Mission bindings on a Burton channel Supermodel sheared off and allowed my back foot to spin like a lazy susan... I think for Pow and with some practice it could be interesting... going 30 mph on groom and having it happen unexpectedly was plain scary... I know Tom Palka has some theories about this as well...:)
  21. Wow Cool Vid. and some great turns... How does that no board work on the groom? :) When we arrived in Aspen in 68 we had our surfboards...Mike Horn and I tried a couple times to surf the pow a lot of laughs but not very successful... also remember watching Mike Doyle in 69/70 ? on a Blue short looking surfboard with no bindings coming down the Ridge of Bell Mt. in a foot of Powder...slowly, methodically but successfully Think Mike did the Monoski thing as well? While the Snurfers, Snowsters, and Back Countrys were always Fun...I'll stick with my bindings....no pun intended. Cheers...:)
  22. My first board in 56 was a Velzy 8 ft. pig burned in a Newport fire ring I had Hobies, Quiggs, Yaters, Harbours and Hansens at the end. The Newport Beach Film Festival on 4/28/10 is premiering a doc called "Living it Forever" about those days...60's around Newport/CDM
  23. Not that first year...the next year their was a HB that I saw once a week or so the guy was a soul rider too...we would wave and smile knowing it was just to good to be true...
  24. Well a Snurfer, a Snowster and a backhill kicked my ass... The Elite 150 in 85 with the metal edges and the fins removed in untouched Groom at Buttermilk is when I knew that I had found the perfect Pointbreak with no one out... The Surf Pic is from some movie footage by Ralph Myers at Trestle in 1964 Takayama has been one of the best shapers forever...enjoy your new sticks...
  25. Yes, I remember Jeff at Highlands in 84 on a Sims I think ? though he was much younger than I at the time and in 85 Bob Klein was at Milk to teach till early Jan. when he left because no one really wanted to learn then... and I have all the Snowboard Life mags downstairs... Thanks...:)
