  1. Montrose, Delta to paonia over Monarch pass is it in the winter... unless Monarch has Rockslides and or Snow blockage then Montrose delta, Grand Junction then up to Snowmass/Aspen that is it. Road thru Crested Butte is CLOSED in WINTER.
  2. Hard Boot carving will continue to dwindle in numbers because... The Ruts are destroying the slopes for all the others that utilize them which of course the majority are skiers... This was demonstrated in spades last year at SES On Aspen Mt. and then one day at Buttermilk by 12 o'clock you could no longer even go down certain runs because of the trenches...some 6 to 8 inches deep The reality is it is flat out dangerous to go into these areas on skis and since skiers outnumber carvers 40 to 1 it is only a matter of time before we are all banned.... usually there are so few at Buttermilk it is nothing to worry about...but large groups create a negative attitude here among the skiers... They complain and bitch that "they have no right to wreck the snow for others" you think this is a joke...it is not
  3. A simple progression. In the beginning a surfboard in a snowfield after couple of beers Then a bizarre plastic skateboard catamarran thing that worked in the driveway but slaughtered you on anything with pitch. Then snurf some powder with the kids then the performer and then the elite and then cruisers and then airs and safaris and asymets and the first Supermodel was when I was able to peak with the style I was after...to surf with no one else out, climbing and dropping from top to bottom...Pipeline trestle, sunset and waimea but with no one else for years, This is why I see the first and my latest supermodel as a sophisticated piece of equipment. Many Hardbooters have come and learned through the years and then left I guess because they thought no big deal, there where almost none last year except at SES...from the first day when some guy yelled Get off the hill with that thing to all 4 mountains opening finally, it has been a great Joy... just as I know it is for You . If this is about Carving then don't I belong here as well?
  4. Yes, sorry You are right I do not belong here sorry to have upset anyone... Wishing all good turns and lots of snow...
  5. Well, what a total crock I have all the supermodels from EVERY year they have made one some have over 130 days, not one has delaminated or gone dead I have a t6 which I did not like as well and I have fishes and Malalos and NONE of them have any large amount of CAMBER, they are not even in the same mold of course as the supermodel and wash out bad on backside so I have to stay a lot more upfront, really for powder anyway. I can not tell any difference between the old and new supermodel but liked the cascade as well when they did not make any supermodels for a while...Maybe the Tanker is better I would not know nor do I need to. The sticks I ride do all that I ask and my style is such that I do not need anything else thank You.I have snowboarded for twenty five years and have made turns carving in softboots for a minimum of 35,000 miles. Terje is on a Supermodel or a surfboard and you will never see him. Just like you will never see me as I ride primarily at Milkland and as Bordy said it is a boring flat place to ride. I just can not stand people with their "My way or the Highway" attitude
  6. Sorry, but my supermodel is not a point and shoot, rather a very sophisticated piece of equipment that has progressed through the years to what it is today. Really this is about style and snow consistency. You need camber to run Slalom and you need camber on ice to help hold a turn...I require very little as I do not run slalom nor do I hop from turn to turn. I think of camber as an extension or an integral part of the boards overall flex design, Terje rides a Supermodel I suppose because it matches his style? I believe Style is the Dance and when I am dancing I dwell in that place between the snow and the Sky...
  7. Look, if Burton matched my Supermodel exactly except took out the 1/4" of Camber I know that It would not make one bit of difference. Maybe the Quality of surface or snow impacts this as Colorado snow is so dry and soft that as one guy mentioned you can use a lunchtray if you wanted and of course lunchtrays have no camber...
  8. A board is dead when the materials providing the flex are shot camber is set by post tensioning by using flex two identical boards with different flex would carve differently:biggthump
  9. Really, the Question is what is the Lag time from when we start the turn from the nose to when that energy reaches the tail...I wish I had a video of Larry the Butcher or someone comparable to really slow down and see... and again far from being worthless this thread ask a good question... The truth is my boards have almost no camber and carve on a dime some have 3" and carve on a dime...so why is that?
  10. of course it is impossible...on current products, but could be done on the MOSHUN 333 a fantasy snowbord with no camber and 6" width with a length of 333cm made from melted glow sticks.
  11. Have you noticed how it always seems to be something we forget? I do remember Mt. Gay Rum in Barbados many years ago... and I remember how to make a good margarita... and after 35,000 miles on a snowboard I remember how to turn... and if the man who started this thread E-Mails me his address I will send him a COLDSURF sticker. I surf on my snowboard and that is the truth! and my sticks all seem to have very little camber and work just fine and that is also the truth. One of the great joys in life is dancing, no matter how you do it...
  12. Excuse me...I believe I have seen some of the Karate Kids around here do just that on their purecarves and or maveriks...of course those boards are a long way away from long coilers or virius sticks nowadays...
  13. YeeHaw snow at 12,000 buttermilk tiehack sleeps below... So what do I need...Gravity>Slope>Snow,Powder or Groomed>Bodyweight> Length and width>Flex and Sidecut>Rocker on the ends please>Boots> Bindings>Stance angles>Stance widths>Angulation right or left>Cool looking topsheet>Appropriate clothing>Sunshine would be nice>Big Grin:biggthump
  14. Yes, this is what I mean by one line... Typically on my sticks (164 to 166 range)I get maybe no space inbetween carve tracks...the big boys with 176 and above and flat noses would of course be able to overlap the tracks...I believe however from my own experience that it is the flex and sidecut that are important here and camber would come into play when you are on your way down the hill riding flat and have yet to crank your first turn...once we load on the initial turn thats when the real party starts...at least for me anyway:biggthump
  15. That is cool, that you can do that... When my board is flat I can not see any edge marks in the snow at all.
  16. actually, when I go from frontside to backside or vice versa my track shows an edge in the snow the WHOLE time except for a split second where the edge to edge transition takes place and often you can not see a flat spot at all...how is camber helping me when the only thing touching the snow is the edge to edge transition which is fed by my weight distribution and the boards flex at loading and unloading?
  17. Why is there so little camber in the Supermodels and Arbor? Why do some of the long 180 and above coilers lay so flat yet carve so good? at least some of them I have seen with very good riders. When I mention unweighting I am talking about releasing the flex that I have loaded on the board from throwing all my body weight forward into either a frontside or backside turn, this can literally stop the board or throw you highside if you do not release it at that right time. The sidecut finishes the turn for you and the energy is transferred through the release of flex into the next turn...so keep your camber and I will stick with a board that has the right flex and sidecut for these two things are what allow you to carve at all. As for staying focused while you are riding so you do not crash...That is for me one of carvings greatest attributes...One line Top to Bottom total concentration required...still 3 months to go till next time!
  18. I watched Dryer ride the "big Stick" at Buttermilk... It was smooth and he ripped once up to the speeds needed to get it to respond. I guessed that those added bars were to increase the flex ,add dampening and responsiveness ? Just the weight and length of the board I felt were just to much for conventional snowboard construction hence the add ons were really needed to make it work...and work it did...Bravo
  19. You Know, I went downstairs to my closet where I have 2 new sticks for this coming season 1 is a Burton supermodel, lay it on the floor and 1/4" camber 2 is an arbor, lay it on floor and 3/8" camber Then I go out to my shed where last years supermodel that went 130 days is hiding, lay it flat on floor and 1/4" Look at that pic on page one of this thread submitted by Oldsnowboards man see how the board is flexed or loaded? that is where the energy comes from for the next turn...when you are over the front you load and build the energy up like that pic shows and when you release and unweight that is what is initiating the next turn...I do not believe the very small amount of camber in either the supermodels or the Arbor matters that much? I thought the guy that started this thread asked for opinions?
  20. What? The only time there is any camber is when the board is unweighted or at home in your closet. If you are over the front and applying pressure from turn to turn where is the camber then? Depending on your style of riding it is the flex and the sidecut that can set you free...
  21. ...All my turns are initiated by applying my body weight to the front of my stick, where the sidecut then takes over for the finish and the flex kicks in to allow the transition to the next turn...loading and unloading is done with flex and sidecut...maybe camber helps but it is not necessary...
  22. Uh, take your board and put it on the floor Step on it...no Camber now is there. You need flex to load not camber I have old boards with no camber that ride just as good as the new ones with camber...
  23. Billie, I wish you would run over to Deer Valley for a couple afternoon teas with Stein Erickson...ex-racer,ski instructor, ski shop owner, real estate tycoon all around Ski God and don't forget to take your boards...oh wait a minute! Stein does not allow snowboards! How is one part of the sauce ? when not in the pot?
