  1. I am headed to Bend for a long weekend next week and I am looking for a private lesson. Thanks, alan
  2. I just got back from the magic bus ride. The snow was great and the grooming was excellent. I spent the morning on Lower Monte Wolf and then moved over to Buckboard. Being my first day back in way too long those runs were perfect. I was told the top was skied off and icy so I was content to leave that alone. Thanks again Derf for the info. Buckboard was choice today. I was even able to evangalize on one run to this woman who was making some really nice turns in her softie setup. She caught me on my best run of the day and I sent her here to Bomber for the source of all good information and used gear. If any of you hook up with her I want to hear about it so I can live vicariously through your exploits since I am married now.
  3. Please give me some beta on Kirkwood. I am boarding a bus at 3 am tomorrow for a day trip to Kirkwood. I have barely ridden for 2 years so I am going to relearn how to do this snowboarding thing. Thanks, alan
  4. My bad, I currently have 205/70/15. I don't remember what I had on the Jetta. I spoke with the distributor about modifying my current pair with different arms but I would also need different size lug extensions. The total cost came to about $200 to make the mods, which is not really cost effective. Especially since I have a 2.5 year old boy and a .5 year old girl. I am just not traveling to the snow enough lately.
  5. Sorry for the delayed response. The best way to find out if they will fit your tire is to phone the distributor. Phone: (505) 266-4815 Toll Free 1-800-581-2060 They are very helpful. Be sure to tell them that they are the older, original model. My current tire is a 206/65/15 and they will not fit. I think my jetta had 195 bla bla 15 tire but it was a few years ago so I don't remember. The car was a 2001 with the sport tire package.
  6. The only problem with the spiders is that there is an inadvertant karmic debt incurred when you leave the chain up area, dry and still warm from the car heater that you only left 2 minutes ago. No bull, I have gotten them on my tires in about 60 seconds each and that is because the zipper on the case is a little sticky.
  7. One set of slightly and gently used spikes spiders. I probably drove on them 5 times. They are size 2.5 I used them on a V.W. Jetta. I have the bolts that fit the jetta and also the set up for a Honda Accord wheel. These are the old school ones before they made the type that collapse. If you check out their website they are like the ones called "Quick". $100 Contact me at: lehmanato@yahoo.com Thanks, alan
  8. I have two pairs of burton freecarve boots. Great for a beginner transitioning to hardboots. 1 - blue size 28 - $50 1 - magenta (downright hideous) size 27 - $25 (correction, I found the liners) check out photos here: http://ph.groups.yahoo.com/group/26453/photos?m=t contact me at lehmanato@yahoo.com Thanks, alan
  9. My family is doing a get together this winter and we are most likely going to Park City. Anyone have some information on lodging, restaurants and best carving spots? We are looking at a house with 4 bedrooms but the $750/night price tag is a bit much to swallow. Thanks, alan
  10. nada, zippo, not a chance. Wave Rave (the larger of two snowboard shops in Mammoth) might still have a dusty factory prime snowboard that they will rent but they don't have any plates or hard boots. They did have one set of Burton cants that I bought 2 or 3 years ago and they weren't even sure what they were. alan
  11. I have gear that I could lend you. I live in Venice. alan
  12. There is a shop called Goldsmiths (I think) in Big Bear that might have some gear. I saw a few Oxygens and some Raichles there a few years ago. http://dataroad.net/goldsmiths/index.html Good luck. alan

  14. Mammoth traditionally closes on July 4th weekend. Two years ago I was up the first weekend in May and it was snowing so hard they could not open most of the mountain.
  15. Did I mention the price is negotiable?
  16. I was just trying to make sure to not get on the bad side of any dead Kennedys. http://www-2.cs.cmu.edu/~johnny/steadycam/ This guy even sells them. Or search for steadycam on your favorite search engine. I have seen people using steadycams and the counter wieght appears to be key in helping you stabalize the camera. alan
  17. There is very bad precedence set doing this behavior.
  18. I have an excel spreadsheet listing tire sizes for the spiders which I can email if desired. alan
  19. My spikes spiders which are about 4 years old have been on a car about 5 times. They are in near perfect condition. They are the Quick model size 2.5 (which was the only model back when I bought them) Check the website for sizing info. http://www.spikes-spiders.com/ If you are familiar with them then you know I am not lying when I say that you can put them on in about 2 minutes and never drop a knee in the snow. One of the best things about installing them is the envy that people have whilst they hug their tires to connect the chains. I have lug attachment bolts for a 2001 jetta and also a 97 accord $200 I am located in Los Angeles but I will ship them in the U.S. I get great rates on fed ex at work so shipping will be pretty reasonable. email lehmanato@yahoo or phone 310 980 4656
  20. I am going to be joining some of my family members at Lake Placid in the begining of March (7-10). Does anyone have an idea of what kind of conditions I could expect? Rock board? Thanks, alan
  21. 2 years ago I started doing triathlons so I am running a lot more miles as well as swimming and biking. This winter I have been mostly running and have only made it up one weekend snowboarding. (sucks to be me) On my first day out on the snow I was resting about one third as much as last year when I was not running really big miles. I was able to push myself a lot harder and sustain like I never have before.
  22. Hello Kathy, Are you a professional instructor? I taught for 2 seasons when I was 17 and 18 yrs old (which was back before the great wars). I see that you are using the tip locking device and it appears that your darling daughter has a harness on. Do you let her lead and hold onto cords to check her speed. When I have seen people use this method it seemed to make sense to me because it forces the child to keep their weight forward. Are the tip locking devices a must? Thanks, alan
  23. The last skiis I owned were 200cm Atomic Arcs. They wieghed about 75#s each. They were purchased in about 1985. I think the new tech might feel a bit different. My brother gave me a set up and I hope they are not too long for me. If so I may try my wifes skiis. Jack, I wish my lense went down to 1.8. When we got our camera I went with an all around lense to cover me untill I could have enough children to sell one to cover a better lense. I get lazy and rely on the auto settings too much but almost always try and override the flash. I hate those hot spots. Probably more like iso200, f3.5, 60 I love the abiliity to shoot 50 frames and not worry about film. That is what I did this morning as my boy was trying bananas for the first time. I promise not to start any more threads having to do with skiing and if I do I will include photos of scantily clad people in my hot tub.
