  1. In mounting the F2 to a Burton (Flight Attendant) the screws were bottoming out before I could lock it down. I ran to Home Depot to try and figure out a good strategy to shim up so the screws would lock to the Tnuts that run in the Burton channel. What you see under the binding is a scribe cut of some free LVP (luxury vinyl plank) flooring. Rubber sticky on the bottom and not too smooth on top. Did I mention Free samples? It is a little thicker than I wanted but serves well after 2 days of riding.
  2. Every time I snowboard I think: "If only I had a 30# brick on my back this would be so much more fun"
  3. At a shop (snowboard specific shop)to demo a board, located at a California resort that will go unnamed. I bring in my Coiler with Bombers to set up the bindings on the demo board... Employee 1: "Your monoski" Me: "Are you serious? This is a snowboard shop right?" Employee 2: "I used to race" Me: "Cool, what kind of set up? Hard or soft boots?" Employee 2: "Soft boots on that board with the squiggly name." My conclusion: recreational marijuana laws should have been phased in slower.
  4. Only 3 or 4 kinds 'a crazy short for weekend plans.
  5. 2 days in so far. 156 Burton Flight Attendant with F2 RS bindings. On the second day I added the heel boost on the rear which feels great. Overall, I am feeling guilty for not having to work so hard on turns. When I am on an alpine board I feel obligated to crank hard on every turn. Like every chair lift ride is for a purpose to dial something in tighter and tighter. On the twin tip set up I could do some surf style sliding occasionally and just let it go. I was even able to navigate a half pipe (no air yet). Being over 60 yrs, there were only 2 competing at Nationals in the half pipe so I figure that if I can show up next year, I can podium.
  6. I am setting up a new pair of F2 RS intec. How much flex on the toe bail is too much? My other bindings are Bomber Trench diggers so they are pretty tightly locked. Should I crank this tighter? The bail is very tight against the shell but there is still a little room on top of the toe. I am concerned about pressuring the front of the shell too much. Link is a video of the movement. Thanks, Alan P.S. Disregard the vintage Fat Bob, that is only a place holder for the binding adjustment. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/32lw9dcn6txx377udwazv/20240407_214439.mp4?rlkey=gfjyqbx13ua3fg543qs6hjlga&dl=0
  7. Hoping for a speedy recovery for Martin. Besides the lesson I had (maybe 15 plus years ago) being a great focused set of instructions (I taught skiing for 2 years, before snowboards had bindings, so my expectations regarding instructors are high), Martin was obviously a kind and caring person. Not many people can teach from that place of pure giving but he did.
  8. I was there earlier last week, 26th? It was good but this was just a few days after the last snow storm. More coming this weekend I think? We arrived around 12 so it was soft and stayed good until closing. The following day I headed to Northstar and it was O.K. but not until about 12. It was freezing enough to be bad in the morning even on a freshly groomed run.
  9. I have this (or similar older model) I got it to be able to wear glasses under the goggles without them being smashed into the bridge of my nose. For that it works great and you look like an Apollo 13 naut. The down side with this system is that the fit is not tight enough to keep out snow if it is snowing, blowing or you do something snowy towards your face.
  10. Would I be able to mount something like the F2 RS or the Trench Diggers on a Burton track set up? Two bolts to rule them all?
  11. Before I got my Trench Diggers (after 20 years on a pair of Cateks) I tried the F2 step in and freaked out because of the lateral movement. I was scared it was about to release. Maybe I need to learn to embrace the movement and try the F2 again on my future twin tip.
  12. I did an experiment and demoed a Burton Step On set up. Photons with Step On and took out a Burton Custom. The thought being if I want to be able to more easily go all mountain when I am with skiers (family/friends) then I would be more versatile and more likely to jump into the trees or down the steeps. Going down the steeps on my 172 Coiler is pretty challenging based on my suck level and being as old as time itself. The board was fun and I was at Northstar (California) where they have groomed expert runs. It was much easier and I could lay it over and carve on the steeps but the soft boots were not making me happy. Granted they were demo's so they were not a perfect fit. My current thought is to put my hard boot set up on a shorter twin tip instead of going full softie. I have TD3 step in and UPZ XC12 which are pretty forgiving. Does this sound like a bad idea for any reason? If I go with something like a Donek all mountain board (maybe Knapton Twin) will that be stiff enough with the TD3's? Is there another all mountain board that would be a good choice. I am shrinking over time and currently close to 5'8" tall. The guy at the Burton shop was telling me the right size board for me was around a 58. I demoed a longer board (160?) and have never ridden anything as short as a 58. Is this all a terrible idea? The soft boots just did not seem to give me what I wanted.
  13. I missed you on Monday. I started my laps a little later in the morning. See you next year.
  14. Hello Steve, Heading up and hope to be on an early chair to Olympic tomorrow. I am hoping to stretch it out to Tuesday. Looking forward to a few laps. Alan
  15. @slabber where are you ordering that screwdriver? Quick internet search comes up dry.
  16. I usually classify most things based on their CF scale (C= cluster). I will now classify riders based on their DN scale (Douch Nozzle). This guy is a DF9.
  17. "Do you know Pancetta? Pancetta is what bacon dreams of being one day. This is a Pancetta snowboard."
  18. I was 59 once. Actually about a week ago.
  19. Considering our audience, can we hijack this thread to speak about the horror that Deer Valley does not allow snowboarding? At what angles do we qualify as a monoski?
  20. Congratulations to the skiers responsibility code for winning $1 for Pepper Potts.
  21. I was 3' from death last week at Heavenly. I was carving very predictable lines on World Cup (which is a slog to get to along Roundabout). It is a short run at the bottom of the mountain that is used primarily for race training. I checked my line and had about 4-5 turns I could make on the run. This was on a Monday and not crowded at all. I am on my transition to front side turn and a guy passes my back at the apex of my turn about 3' away going at least 50mph. Full straight line skier. If I had not made that turn at that moment we would have both been heading to the hospital or worse. I caught him at the bottom of the hill and said at least 5 of the 7 words you can't say on television. Dude was oblivious to the danger. Probably 20 years old and the only thing he had to say was, "I am not really a carver, more of a straight liner". Hopefully he filled out the organ donor card at DMV.
