  1. I am so terribly sorry to hear the news:( Best wishes for a speedy recovery:)
  2. Thanks to Neil, Loc and Carl for everything. It was great meeting so many new people! Also, thanks to each of you that put up with me and my rear toe clip:eek: I could not have ridden all day without your help! Thanks to Rolf it looks like my little "issue" should be resolved this week:biggthump
  3. Hi, I am not sure what time I will be up (might leave tonight or at 2AM). You can try my cell and I recommend calling me around 7 am. My cell is 714 822 1025. Brooke
  4. There are quite a few of us that drive back and forth to MM every weekend (I am one of them). Sometimes I leave on Thur nights after work and sometimes on Fridays after work, returning on Sundays mid day. If you need a ride from LAX to Mammoth or from Mammoth airport into town you can post a note here and I also recommend Mammothmountain.com, go to forums at the top of the menu. On the MM forum there is a category for ride shares. You can post there as well. I pick up ride shares often and its a good group of people on that board. If you do decide to go to the camp drop me a line with your dates (arrival and departure) and times and I will try to help out. As for lodging, the cheapest place in town for basic hotel is the Econolodge on main street. The camp should be worth it. Generally speaking MM has some of the best spring riding around. They received over 400 inches of snow this year!
  5. I had a spinal fusion at L5-S1 on 1/28/09. I am back on the hill, though no where near 100% (in fact my riding totally blows this year). This year has been a rebuilding year for me. I also have degenerative disc disease at L4. I was riding too much December and January and wound up with swollen spinal nerves. I rode last May 3 months after surgery in soft boots. Lasted half a day. The surgeon told me to expect 1 to 1.5 years to be riding again. Ha! However full recovery takes time and it takes on average 6 months for the fusion to heal properly. Today I ride with a heat pack on my lower back and 12mg fentanyl transdermal patch. As for daily pain when not riding I am feeling much better than before I had the surgery. I will caution you on one thing........your back will take time to become strong again. I have a very hard time getting my rear toe bail up because of the ligaments that run near the lower spine. If you have lower back problems I recommend an MRI. If the MRI confirms you should choose your surgeon very carefully. I saw the 5 top surgeons in southern CA before making a selection. There are different surgical approaches to handling a spinal fusion. Unfortunately I woke up one morning and my disc crashed (I could not walk, or get out of bed and an ambulance had to take me to the hospital) and the surgery ended up being an emergency surgery requiring 5 days of hospitalization. The sugery itself lasts anywhere from 5-8 hours. So your probably wondering if the surgery was worth it.............my response is yes! The longer you wait the more potential damage you can do. The only thing that sucks is it takes time to heal:( Good luck and if you have additional questions feel free to drop me a line.
  6. If possible can each of you let us know if you plan to attend and if so what days? It would be really helpful:) Below is what I have tracked so far.............. Neil Loc Brooke<o> </o> Thomas? – can you contact Terry and the rest of the folks in SB?<o>:p></o>:p> Wolfman<o> </o> George S<o> </o> Gary J<o> </o> G-Ben?<o> </o> GDBoytyler<o> </o>
  7. PS. Also recommend posting to tahoecarvers.com
  8. I volunteer to help cook and watch boards. I think that location vs going to main lodge would work much better. Perhaps we can go to Tiger Bar after (spend some money in town). You also might want to note that the Roxy Chicken Jam will be going on the same weekend over at MM.
  9. Neil, Did you happen to talk to Carl about discount tickets? I still have my MVP Bring a Friend benefit I have not used and would be willing to do so to help out, but it takes a few days advance notice I think. Perhaps we should start a running list of participants on this thread so we can get head counts for Carl. Let me know your thoughts and if there is anything else I can do to help out.
  10. Sinsecure, You might want to try to come to SNES at June on 3/27-3/29. All the carvers will be there and they are going to groom mid day for us among other things. Its a virtually empty mountain with great carving runs, no lines and they love us carvers over there:)
  11. Hi, I will spread the word where possible. I think the mid day grooming, gates, BBQ and someone with a video and camera would be great. Might ask Carl if there is any staff at June that can do the video and camera. We could all chip in for that. I don't mind!!!!!! What about having the stubby gates on shatzi vs. the current run? Let me know if there is anything I can do to help!
  12. Ok don't laugh............here is mine (bad lighting)
  13. I am sad to report this has been confirmed by very reliable source. This truly sux:( RIP fellow rider may you have lots of snow to ride in heaven!
  14. More details................trying to confirm. THIS SUCKS:( Details are that a 43 year old female snowboarder was reported missing to ski patrol at approx 1:30 PM when her friends told patrol she had been missing since approx 11:30 AM. Patrol found her body in a tree well near the run secret spot in the chair 12 area at approx 4:30 PM. CPR was started immediately, paramedics were called, an ambulance came and she was pronounced dead at (IIRC) 5:05 PM. Very sad, and a chilling reminder that just because you are well within the boundary of a ski resort doesn't mean you are protected from fatal accidents. Always ski with a buddy, especially in the trees and especially on a storm day. Never stop in tree wells. RIP :(
  15. I am hearing unconfirmed rumors (decent source) that a 40 year old female boarder was found in the trees near chair 12 (apparently she was riding alone). If this is true that is 6 people this year:( I am VERY VERY sad:( Anyone hear anything on this today?
  16. Ok thanks for working with Carl. Do we need a head count or anything? I am definitely in for the 27th, not sure about the 28th and have to work the 29th.
  17. All, Is this date set? Perhaps an official thread should be started to poll how many can do these dates? Let me know your thoughts............
  18. I experienced my first case of vertigo in December while riding during a major dump at Mammoth. I became so disoriented I sat in the snow and cried because I couldn't see more than 2 feet in front of me to get down the hill:( Fortunately a patroller on a snowmobile saw me and picked me up. We spent the next hour tooling around checking on people. Turned out to be a fun day, but took every ounce not to puke riding around on the mobile:eek:. It was a bad case of vertigo and I am more conservative riding certain terrain during low visibility now.
  19. Yes, this was a VERY TRAGIC FREAK ACCIDENT:( Unfortunately the article is (as are others) incorrect. She was snowboarding when this happened, NOT skiing. Unfortunately I happen to know a bit about what happened. Her fiance happens to be my ex husband. She was a hard booter as is my ex husband. He is devastated. Please say a prayer for her family and my ex husband. If anyone wishes to send condolences please PM me direct and I can supply instructions. Thanks
  20. Hi, I might be interested in this board. I live in Huntington Beach. Can you send me a PM with your contact information? Thanks:)
  21. We will be at Gunsmoke in the morning. I think some of us are leaving around 12 ish to drive back down. Usually people get to Gunsmoke around 9ish:)
  22. Yep. I adore my boots. It was a nightmare getting them, however I believe that Mammoth Mountaineering carries the mens version.
  23. I vote we trench up the entire run this weekend! Give em' something to think about when they turn the entire run into a park:eplus2:
