  1. It was announced today that June Mountain will be closing effective today. It will not be open this summer or the winter 2012-2013 season :( Sad day for the employees and town. This was and always will be a special place for us. The mountain loves carvers and has the most wonderful staff! If you have purchased an MVP Pass primarily because it includes 2 mountains (Mammoth+June) and did so based on this premise and are not sure if you still want the pass due to June closure send me a PM and I can let you know what is going on. http://www.sierrawave.net/12617/devastating-news/ http://www.mammothtimes.com/content/june-mountain-shuts-down-2012-13-ski-season-gone
  2. Hi All, Carlo confirmed PayPal payment from the following individuals: -Lance -George -Thomas -Timothy -Andrea The payments received plus what Neil and I chipped in have now fully covered the cost of the gift card plus we have $10 above. How do we want to handle this? I can hold on to the $10 and start next years pot with this. Perhaps next year take up a small collection the week prior and tuck in in a card we all sign on the first morning? Carlo will be up again in April so he could get another card and give to Eric. Unfortunately my best friend is in the last stages of cancer:( so I won't be out until May since I have to travel out of state for a couple of weeks. Please let me know your thoughts/ideas and thanks for chipping in:)
  3. Hi All, Carlo's PayPal acct is cnafarrete at earthlink dot net. Send me a PM if you transmit and I will confirm. Neil, We already included your dontation...........thanks:)
  4. All, I don't have PayPal but Carlo (hubs) does. I will get his PayPal info tonight when he gets home and post the info this evening for thos that wish to contribute. Carlo can just credit me since we use his PayPal account for my personal purchases lol
  5. Hi, I purchased a $150.00 June Mtn gift card and gave it to Eric late Saturday afternoon. The bartender said that would be easier. That way Eric can coordinate with his staff. I informed him it was from all of us and thanked him and his staff for all of their support for the past few years. Carlo was up at June this weekend and ran into Eric on Sunday and he thanked Carlo for card and said to pass his thanks along. He was tickled pink we thought of him and his staff!!!!!!!!!!
  6. Come on up! Regardless of the weather we will have some fun! :)
  7. We will see everyone there! I am bringing a girlfriend and hope to get her carving!
  8. Neil, I just heard from Thomas in Santa Barbara and he indicated he will be coming up with Terry and Frank....but they won't arrive til mid day Saturday (Terry and Frank like to sleep in):)
  9. Hi, Take a read at the weather report...........predicting snow for SNES weekend. In fact looks like quite a bit of snow for this week and next! http://mammoth-mountain-weather-discussion.mammothsnowman.com/
  10. Neil, As always thanks for putting this together for everyone. We really need to buy you and patrol some beers this year. We will be there this year, but I may not be able to ride (numerous medical issues this year), but Carlo will definitely ride. Carlo also indicated he is going to tell a couple of other friends that ride hardboots to see if they can make the trip. If I can't ride I would be happy to take pics and video's etc...... As for gear.......no new gear this year (except UPZ boots). Carlo got a new board, but it has not been shipped from CO as of yet. If we have any newbies that need gear to demo let us know. We have a TON of non-metal alpine boards and some hardshells around. I also have my Coiler 161. My Kessler is having issues with inserts at the moment so we can't remove the bindings:( I also have my 172 Coiler. Concerning food.....we prefer to purchase food on the hill so we can support the mountain as much as possible:) Thanks again for your efforts in putting this together:)
  11. Yes things are VERY bad up there. There is serious talk of the town having to file BK Chapter 9! TOML lost a huge lawsuit with MLLA to the tune of 42 mil including legal costs. Goes to mediation shortly, but TOML cannot afford to pay much. Also LADWP is going after water rights. The town management has not been doing a good job. IMHO MMSA is ripe to be bought................very soon for a discounted price given the stuff going on with the town:( http://www.mammothtimes.com/content/mediation-last-hope-lawsuit-settlement-process-required-step-town%E2%80%99s-aim-relief http://www.sierrawave.net/10469/rusty-gregory-on-marketing/ http://www.sierrawave.net/9505/ladwp-wants-mammoths-water/ http://www.sierrawave.net/10152/mammoth-community-water-district/ Rusty is going to be posting a detailed response in the local forum shortly. Should be an interesting read.
  12. Neil, If possible recommend re-confirming dates asap. MMSA just had a large layoff and rumor mill is more may follow:( Also heard through the grapevine that an estimated 16K (yes) MVP's did NOT pick up their pre-paid passes this year:( http://thesheetnews.com/archives/12749 See also http://sierrawave.net
  13. Andre, I think that is a great idea! I am willing to purchase and pitch in beer/dinner for the graphic artist if we can find one. Have you sourced the t-shirts? We are hoping to go to June next weekend:)
  14. Hi, I am looking to purchase 2 pairs of TD2's SI's.
  15. Hi, If the TD2 SI's are not spoken for we will take them:) Please let me know via post as for some reason PM does not always work. Thanks
  16. Hi, It looks like June is a no go:( no snow:( I told Al (Algunderfoot) about this and it looks like he will be up. So this makes three more of us and I let some of the folks in Santa Barbara know as well. Best wishes for a Happy New Year:) Brooke & Carlo
  17. Have fun everyone! Unless the snow melts (which it may) we will be at June. OUr family and some friends are supposed to be there that weekend (I think Al and Thomas are planning on going as well). We may ride Summit this Friday. Happy Holidays and best wishes for a Happy New Year:)
  18. We spend most of our time up in Mammoth and June (have been since 1990) and for the past few years have been looking at homes (both condos and houses) in the area. We ride June on the weekends (always Saturdays) and Mammoth on Sundays or during the week. If you can get in and ride there at least 7 days during the year the MVP pass is a great deal (679). We have been all over and truly, Mammoth and June are simply the best places on earth to ride!!!!! Unfortunately, these great mountains are in California:( Houses, not much under 300K. Condo's.......that is a different story. Though the prices have dropped significantly be VERY cautious. Numerous condo associations have had "special assessments" due to so many foreclosures. These can come at any time and with little warning and you have no choice but to pay them (friend of ours had a 10K assessment last winter). Remember that HOA dues include snow removal and these dues are not cheap (250+ per month if not higher ). Electricity in the area is $$$$$$$$ so make sure the place includes a stove. For a respectable 1 bedroom you will pay about 115k minimum and that is something that will need some TLC. Stay away from Sierra Manor (that is not a great complex) and has the cheapest places. Some call it "the ghetto of Mammoth" They have a high amount of foreclosures, good deals, not so great neighborhood. Also of note the town of Mammoth has some "political" issues as well. It is a wonderful place, but in our humble opinion a "risk" of buy. Believe me, we really wanted to buy there (and came very close to doing so), but we ran the numbers and also looked at it from a long term standpoint (retirement, taxes and medical care) and the numbers...........well they didn't even come close. Unfortunately the state of California has lost its way and it is only getting worse. If you are looking in Tahoe, try on the Nevada side. We don't recommend purchasing in CA. After looking in different parts of the country we have narrowed our choice to Colorado (great land deals and taxes are reasonable) or Canada. We looked in Montana and WY, not much in our price range. Though the seasons are longer here in California, ultimately we took into consideration the tax rates and financial condition of the state, both of which suck in California. Those in California that work for a living are giving more and more to taxes each year. We are hoping to find a good plot of land in Colorado. There are some deals to be had out there if you are patient. We are patient:) Best wishes in your search and remember if you buy in California, the state has HIGH taxes and at the rate we are going we may be bankrupt (state of ca just passed legislation giving illegals funds for higher education). If we could move out of here now we would do so, but we are stuck here for 9 more years. Thankfully our homes fall uner prop 13 so our property taxes are reasonable, the rest of our taxes and cost of living are not. Happy hunting:)
  19. :) Couldn't resist..................
  20. Hey K Star, look forward to seeing another girl on the hill! I have a 161 Coiler-VSR you are welcome to try out if you like. See ya tomorrow. :)
  21. Hey ya'll! Are any girls going to ride this year? I plan to ride on Saturday. Not sure about Sunday. I may ride over at Mammoth. Depends on if I come up Thur night. This year I actually have boards! 149 Oxygen 156 Custom Kessler (stiff n skinny) 161 Coiler 172 Colier
  22. Time for a change this weekend! We are actually going to ride Summit and Bear on Sunday! It wil be fun, but I am not looking forward to the crowded pinball effect. Time to bust out my small bullet board! If you are going to be at Summit SUnday morning we can bring up a board. Let me know what you would be interested in trying out (brand/length/width etc..). My significant other has quite a few alpine boards. I have a 161 Coiler you can try. It is a VSR, 18.5 waist.
  23. Thanks for posting NCERMAK!!!! I am sure Chuck's family will appreciate the thoughts and donations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Chuck was such a wonderful man! He did so much for the snowboarding (and surfing) community (lets not forget the alpine aspect)!!! I worked for him back in the mid 90's on the board and I will never forget each weekend counting every single entry and then counting every single item in the give-away (SWAG) pile and always making sure that every single entrant received "something" no matter how big or small. That was something he always wanted to make sure of...............everyone had fun and walked away with something. For those of you in Southern California service information is as follows: Tuesday 2/22 @ 1 PM at Montecito Memorial Park and Mortuary at 3520 East Washingtn St, Colton CA 92324 Sunday 2/27 @ 1 PM at the Huntinigton Beach Pier there will be a service and paddle out.

Chuck did so much for the sport. He will be missed by many, especially those of us from So Cal:( RIP
