Seems like someone got inspired from alpine snowboard plates to experiment with it for freestyle use. Their claims are all over the place about this thing (and this prototype is affixed to the board?), but it's an interesting direction if they're proposing this has a competitive edge.

Claimed to operate on some "patented superslide railsystem".

    Thoughts?

Interesting to see Terje endorse it.

Also interesting to see Terje using Now O-drives since he is no longer with the big B.

The combination of the plate and skatetech seems counter productive to me but I am not an engineer so might be pretty effective.

Probably right Neil as I didn't check what board he is on in that clip.

Found the pic and he says he's on a 147 in the description.

Just an observation, but I find it interesting that Jeremy (and a few other pros) often reference stance angles that are not possible with current Softboot models…i.e. he says he is running 35* on his front foot which is not possible as his Jones/Now bindings work in three degree increments so it has to be 33 or 36.

So are soft boot risers/plates still a thing?

I’m still rocking my near-20-years-old Palmer Power plates. They are not that stiff or responsive but they work and they’re light. I tried a board with VIST (?) soft boot plates last year and found them to be noticeably heavier and a bit of a drag on the lift.

I know Apex started making soft-boot plates but has closed down. I thought Donek was making them at some point a few years ago. But in looking around just now and checking some websites I can’t really see much of anything for sale.

Are they a thing of the past? If not, what are people using?

JayseyJayAnderson, Virus, Bomber by Gumbo, and Kessler still make them.

I have a set of the Apex Gecko Stealths, two pairs of Donek Risers, and a pair of the JayseyJay risers.

I actually like the feel of the JJAs the best as the Gecko’s and the Donek’s feel like they isolate me too much and I want risers not isolation plates.

I love the Bombers for the cant and lift but hate the weight.

    hope that helps

    wait for the nidecker supermatic

I did not get to ride them, but I got to see and try the Supermatic’s at a shop and it is a neat concept…but heavy and a lot of parts, so it will be interesting to see how they stack up after a year of use/abuse in all types of snow conditions.

the build is very beefy and probably over built for most riders (except you Lance as I know how hard you are on gear 😎).

For now I will stick with my Ion/StepOn X and my Driver X/Union Atlas Pro setups as they both have pluses and minuses.

    cheers🤙

    Paid some dues this week:smashfrea

doing super quick goose schit slalom on the beach path:eplus2:

turned too sharp and in a blink my wheel Joe Jitsued me on my back (so sowwy) and bounced my helmet off the pavement. I was fully padded but nothing hit but back and head;. was only going 5-6 mph thank fully but it sure made climbing scaffold this week painful.

felt like folding the nose on a slalom boardBAM

mt bike jacket may be in my future, any suggestions?

I have used quite a few different brands (poc, dainese, fox, Troy Lee design) and just recently got a new set from Xion and am really liking their stuff as it is super low profile and fits great. Customer service was awesome and product comes direct via DHL.

Dense (like me) dust on crust.  about 4'' of new grippable, somewhat firm, supportive snow. Spent the morning on the sf, giggling my fat A$$ off. there were carve trains, tailgunning, tightening of turns when a certain fng got a little close.  I was nearly in a collision right of the bat as an ape hanger park monkey speaking jibberish thought it would be a good idea to pass me between the edge of the trees at the apex of my healside on mambo on the way to reload. Boards got within a foot of each other as I was making nice, flowwy consistent turns. Dumasso went down, I stayed up, yay for me!

Good crew out, Ice Hil, and Shelly stuck around for a few, then took off in search of the oh so elusive gnar, we didnt see them for the rest of the day.  Fng and sweetie, Ink, the incredibly odd one, myself, and Mr. E lapped reload and 6, I hung in until a bit after11, and headed down the hill. hit some severiously squally patches between bakerville  and Idaho springs, made it feel a wee bit like mid winter.

Sandy, I hope you didnt break yourself too bad, and you will back in the lineup next Sunday.

    2 to go

    Mario

Thanks @big mario🙏 still sore but should be able to ride again this weekend 🏂🤘😎🤙

r: fawcett, p: morrison Turning man banked '22. They look like step on's to me, but could be photo shopped like the K on the nose of the board. so if you're super human, give them a try. not for me. just ride what you're more comfortable on in spring like conditions. my hardboot stuff rarely comes out in the spring except maybe the first hour or two. nothing better or worse. just personal preference. 20yrs on hardboots, stick with hards. even though softboots are more fun, better suited to variable terrain, provide more agility and wear more comfortable. none of that makes sense if the rider is more comfortable riding hardboots though. happy trails "one way or another".

    fawcett.stepon.jpg

Yes, Fawcett rocks a StepOn most of the time these days unless he is riding something else for a review.

My $.02 on the StepOn setup is that I have been riding the Ion StepOn boots with StepOn X bindings for all conditions and I actually liked the setup with a couple items that bothered me:

    1. No canting

    2. Limited forward lean adjustment

    3. ReFlex base flexes too much and does not have a lot of micro adjustments for stance (limited to 2cm increments on 4x4/4x2 insert boards)

    4. Boots (wish there was a driver X version)

After 46 days on the setup with my Tanker 201 and Tanker 186 I had a boot failure that has made me go back to a regular strap setup.

I agree with @scottishsurferon the feeling of my foot feeling connected directly to the board and toe-heel response was amazing, however the movement and flex in the ReFlex base combination with how fast the boots became super soft even after replacing the stock Burton liners with Intuition SBC Wraps just made the setup too flexy (especially laterally) for my taste.

I am now back on Union Atlas Pro’s with Driver X boots and am happier with this setups performance.

The StepOn setup is almost there, but just not quite for me.

There will be a stiffer disc for the StepOn X for next year, but the other issues still apply for me but I might give them another try if they address some of the limitations  in the current boots offered.

    cheers,

    sandy

Can you elaborate a bit on the tankers. I am looking for a new pow stick. I am 6’4” 250lb.

i gravitate towards the 201 but worry if it’s too long for trees.  Any comparison you can offer would be helpful.

A couple questions for you before you lean towards a 201…how big are your feet? I ask because if you have feet bigger than 11 you would need to go with the 186 or 176 as they are the wides…also where do you ride? If you are in Colorado, I can arrange to get you a board to demo.

But for more elaborate details, the Tankers are freeride decks that also carve very well. The best description is to think of a longboard surfboard…you can make fun and mellow turns on low angle terrain where short boards get stuck and if you are feeling aggressive and want to ride big terrain at Mach speeds, the extra length helps provide a stable ride. Another surf analogy is that if you want to ride Nazare, Jaws or Mavericks, you break out a big gun for the big waves.

    hope that helps.

Hey Loveland crew. I'm new to hardbooting and Ink pointed me towards this forum. Everyone I've talked to has been super chill, so hopefully y'all don't mind me crashing the party. I took the plunge and bought a used setup from another member here. Took it out to Crested Butte this past weekend and I'm totally hooked! It's so much fun to carve on this thing. 😎

Im excited to ride more. I'd love to link up with the Lovey group to practice turns and make some new friends. I'm in Denver so let me know next time you head out (if y'all don't mind a new kid tagging along).

    Welcome Justin @J49

As @inkaholicmentioned, most of the LCI crew will be in Montana for the Montucky event, but we are usually at Loveland every Sunday.

Look forward to meeting and riding with you.

    cheers🍻,

Wondering how demo gear would work, given that everyone needs specific bindings setup. Tweaking it for 10-15 min, then taking just couple of runs, means a lot of overhead.

And BTW, are the demo boards normally equipped with bindings, or I use my own ones ?

Bring your own bindings….please…. as I will not have any for the Tanker demos I am bringing.

If I recall correctly, @svr said he has ridden them, they worked pretty well but are in need of refinement. "Clunky" I believe is the word he used.

    ink

Yes, I tried them and @inkaholicyour memory of our conversation is spot on.

interesting concept but I would use Flow’s or Burton StepOn over the Clew system. Both ride and walking are very stiff and clunky.
