  1. I have read what I can about cants. Someone please educate me more. I am riding a Volkl Cross with Burton Drivers and Burton X bindings. Yes I know this is not a hard boot set-up, I prefer stiff softies. Now I plan on carving and racing boardercross this year. What will cants do for this set up? Are they needed for softies? Do I just need a rear or also a front? What degree is best? My first carving board, a Burton PJ with 3-strap flex bindings, I used a rear foot cant and liked how it took pressure off my back leg and pushed my rear knee forward resulting in better carving. Though I had and still do not have much clue on the use and need for a soft boardercross set up. Thanks.
  2. If the 4 hole one is still available I'll take it. Email me at jboard88@hotmail.com. Or if anyone knows where I can get a 4 hole cant from let me know. Thanks, I really need one.

  4. "They don't love the game", "All they care about is money", etc... As it should be!!!! Listen, we may sit on the sidelines and dream about playing the sport we love, but to these guys it is their job. There is a big difference between doing something for recreation or fun and having it be your job. How many here went to college to study to do something you couldn't wait to do? How many now still have the same passion for that job? How many stay at their job because of the pay? How many look at what the company makes and say they can afford to pay me more? How many here overinflate(sp?) the importance of their job? My point is that yea we think they have a great job and they get paid alot and shouldn't complain, but how many here would want more money if you knew your career would only last 10 years? whould you demand as much money as you could get? Especially if that was industry pay? Or would you say, "no I love what I do sooooo much, pay me less"? These guys work their asses off. They put themselves through pain on a daily basis. Waking up with it. Playing through it. And having it linger long after the season or their career is over. They are one injury away from losing the dream. The contracts are not guaranteed. These guys have alot to lose. They live out of suitcasses 3/4 of the year. Never being home long or able to be with their families or loved ones. If anyone here has really known a pro athlete they know what that life is really like and I'm sure most people would not want it. It's not all money and glory. You have to want to play the game to go through what they do. As always remember, if you really think that the pro athlete and owners make too much money stop going to the games, watching them on TV, buying pro products, listening to them on the radio, etc... They are paid what they are because the fan pumps money into the machine. Ok, enough soapbox...LETS PLAY HOCKEY!!!! (and snowboard)
  5. Thank God hockey is back!!!!! Just got back from opening night and DAMN I missed it. Gopher (College) hockey and my little bros peewee hockey and my own personal playing was not enough. You can never have enough hockey. Wild beat Calgary!!! Like there was any doubt. The new rule changes favor the smaller, faster Wild. Watch out NHL, Minnesota is back! As for the rule changes...eliminating the red line and two line pass is the best thing to happen to hockey. Finally no more neutral zone trap. Once teams learn how to adjust to this new rule you will see some exciting play in hockey. I disagree with the D hanging back more. I did not see that tonight. In fact, it was the forwards I saw playing more consertive. It's obvious they have not fully adjusted to the new rule. This 'zero tolerance' on tripping, slashing, etc... sucks! there were a few penalities tonight that were ridiculous. This is hockey for christ sakes! Contact is part of the game. The refs need to relax a bit and let the boys play. Finally, being a goalie myself, I disagree with the shrinking of equipment. If you have not played the position, you have no idea how vulnerable you are out there. Shots come so hard and so fast, to take away protect just leaves you open to injury. Anyways, enough of my soap box. Long live hockey! The sport of the gods :)
  6. I have a Volkl Cross board that I will be using soft boots on. I have a size 7 foot so toe overhang is not an issue. What I am wondering is what do those out there think are the best angles for carving with soft boots? 45/40? Other?
  7. IMO you can carve on anything. I can carve in my Burton Carbines or Burton Drivers, so it is a matter of how stiff you like your boots. Like I said above, I have two pairs of softies. I generally wear my Drivers (the stiffest boots in Burtons line) when I'm looking to just go out and lay an edge. I am a light rider (150lbs) and for anything other than needing a very responsive boot I wear my Carbines. Now being as you have rode hard boots for nearly 10 years I would recomend either the Driver or the Ruler. The driver is gonna be more like a hard boot, esp with the insert added. The ruler is gonna have a little more flex to it, but is still very stiff. IMO, if you go to a mid-stiffness boot after riding hards for so long you may be disappointed. Though the best thing to do is go try on boots and see what fits your foot best and then go from there. I have ridden both softs and hards and the Driver is really close to a hard boot in a soft boot disguise. If that is what you what, go with that.
  8. Need some help from all you mountain bike people out there. I just recently bought a full suspension frame to replace my hard tail and need to get a fork for it. I am building this up as an all-mountain bike with mild downhill potential, but the main focus will be trail riding with 5-6 inches of suspension. I currently am looking at a Marzocchi Jr. T but am unsure if a triple crown is really necessary. Why would one want or need a triple crown fork? I will admit I will not be jumping this bike, but like I said I will be going to ski areas and riding downhill with it. While I am partial to Marzocchi, does anyone have any other recomendations out there either in the Marzocchi line or other? I am building up a Mountain Cycles San Andras frame, what do you think I should put on it fork-wise? (just a side note, I am building this up as a 9 speed with no front deraileur and single chainring if that helps)
  9. If you are still looking, I have a 151 Burton Custom with Burton CFX bindings. It was used 6-10 times and is still in like new condition. If you are interested email me at jboard88@hotmail.com for more details and pics. I would post pictures here but I don't know how.
  10. My opinion...quit looking for bikes that cosy thousands and pick up a 400-500cc 70's bike. You can usually find them for a couple hundred dollars. I have been riding for a while now and one thing I have learned for sure is that most new riders crash in their first year of riding. Why wreck an expensive bike that will cost alot to fix when you can dump a cheep bike til her skills improve.
  11. Where was this ATV a month ago? I just got a Volkl Cross. Oh well, hopefully the Volkl will make me happy. Otherwise at least I know there is something else out there for me.
  12. I used to Lifeguard not too long ago and we used sit-on Kayaks out on the line. They are good for playing around and jumping in water. If you do any SCUBA or fishing they are really stable for that too. I used to be the one that had to research and buy them and I prefered the Ocean Kayaks. Personally I am in the market for a Kayak and considered the sit-ons but remembered how wet you would get in them and that is fine on a 90-100 degree day, but even when the weather was in the 70's you would freeze if you were wet. So I'm getting a normal Kayak. So far it looks like the Perception Sundance or Carolina is gonna be the winner for me. Good luck.
  13. I have a 2005 155 Burton Seven for sale if you are interested :) But to answer your question...Never rode a Salomon, but have heard good things about them. As for bindings, get a Burton Mission or Cartal. IMO they make the best strap bindings. Boot-wise, try on a bunch of different boots and get what feels best. They all work the same in a strap binding, though I do caution to avoid a boot that is too soft. If you are comming from a hard boot set up you are likely to be disappointed.
  14. I had a 3rd degree sprain (there may have been small bone fractures but they couldn't tell from the xray) from skateboarding. It took nearly a full year to fully heal. 5 months to walk without pain and another 7 before I could cut side-to-side without pain. Granted returning to rugby two weeks after the injury probably didn't help, but I almost lost my job because of the injury and haven't skated my short board since. Oh yea, no problems with snowboarding after it healed, but it hurt like hell for a season getting in and out of my boots. Once I was in my boots though I really had no problems.

    Guns

Glock model 19. Tippmann A5 tricked out to look like a short barrel MP5 :) I own a Glock because I went to school to enter law enforcement at a federal level or tactical level. Oddly enough I now work as a medic. Funny how that turned out. But if it wasn't for the ambition of law enforcement I would have no reason to own a gun and most likely wouldn't. In fact, i haven't shot my Glock in years. Now my paintball gun, on the other hand, I shot last weekend...
  16. My first choice of name was taken. So then I just typed 'boarderboy' cuz I couldn't think of anything else and that was taken. So now I was just annoyed and added my birth year after it and I was registered. Nothing exciting. As a matter of fact, I don't even like the name. I wish I could play around and change it. Oh, well. :(
  17. Anyone ridden one of these yet? Visually it is a cool looking board, maybe the best looking one I have ever seen. Just wondering how it rides. I may need to add yet another new board to the quiver. Also has anyone ridden the Fish or Malolo? How does it compare to the Selecta? Thanks.
  18. Thanks everyone. I have a size 7 foot so being that I am on a 25cm waist board I am not expecting any overhang at all, but I will be on the watch for it. Voysey, I have the 167 cross. You say it has a softer nose than the 63, have you found that to be a problem?
  19. Got my Volkl Cross today!:) What a sweet looking board. It has the more squared off tail I was looking for. Damn I can't wait to ride it! Question on angles. I haven't rode steeper than a 27 degree since the days of my PJ. I saw some suggested 45 degrees on both feet. What are the best angles to use for soft boot carvin' and why? Thanks.
  20. I'm not sure I would pay $200 for it unless it is in excellent condition. I have been trying to sell my old racing bike for years and it is in excellent condition with Dura Ace STI and I can't even get $300 for it. I built it in '91. That is why I think $200 for a bike as old as mine and not even as good is too much. My $.02.
  21. Thanks Mark and Peter! I called All Board Sports and have one on hold until tomorrow when I have a credit card on me to buy it. Thanks again! I can't wait til winter! :)
  22. Actually the Volkl Cross was the first board I was looking for. I've been looking for it since last winter and have been unable to find it new or used anywhere, so these are the next two that I think will work for my needs on my list.
  23. Thanks everyone for all the advise. It confirmed what I already believed and opened my eyes to things I never thought of. Thanks. I have narrowed my choice down to two boards: The MLY signature and the F2 Speedcross. Opinions on the two boards please. For those of you that have read my previous you know what I am looking for. I am leaning towards one more than the other, but just want to be sure I am making the right choice. Thanks again for everyone's input and maybe someday I will finally commit to the hard boot...just not yet.
  24. WHat else would be cool is a die-cut window sticker that is specific to alpineriders/carvers. You know like...ummm...if you have ever seen the white hockey goalie sticker in the rear window of cars or the soccer ball on minivans, something like that. If I know someone who did them I'd make it happen, but I don't. Maybe someone here could make it happen. Just a thought. I know I'd buy one.
