  1. I might be up for a day trip this weekend. How is the snow looking? Based on the weather in CT, I would think the snow is pretty good ....
  2. Well, the title says it all. I was ripping up Nitro at Mt Snow last weekend, and a skier ran into me from behind. Fortunately, I had just transitioned to toe side, so the base of my board took most of the impact. My right arm got wrenched nicely, but I'm okay otherwise; my helmet saved my head from the ground. A friend who witnessed the accident said my subsequent flip was quite impressive. The skier looked like he was in shock from hitting me(He stayed on his feet.) Bonus for him; he stuck around to make sure I was okay. Watching him ski down after the fact, it became obvious he was going way too fast for his ability level. The moral of the story is to check uphill as often as possible. I was on a really wide, straight trail riding between groups of light traffic. I guess I was lookin' so good, he couldn't keep his eyes off me!
  3. He's a 28 or 29 mondo, IIRC. I gave him a link to this thread, so hopefully he'll register and chime in.
  4. Hi. A friend of mine is in Seattle, and wants to buy some hardboots. Is there anyplace in the Seattle area that carries anything alpine related? If not in Seattle, how about within a few hours of there? Thank you. ps - I did a search, and came up with a bootfitter: http://www.bomberonline.com/VBulletin/showthread.php?t=4436&highlight=Seattle+shops+hard+boots
  5. Yeah, that picture makes me want to jump in the car for a trip to Snow right now. What concerns me is what might be lurking half an inch under that snow.

    Sugarbush

Yes, it is a winter wonderland. I drove past Mt Snow/Stratton today ... NOT looking good. Sugarbush may have more snow; there was snow in them hills when I drove down from Burlington on Friday.
  7. Thanks for the info, folks! The crowds weren't too bad; the big crowd week was over by the time I got there. Tuesday was ICY. Temps rose on Wed and Thursday and the snow/ice softened up. The skiing was actually rather nice on Thursday, but springlike in the afternoon. All the good stuff was on the trail-edge, with boilerplate in the middle on many trails. Alas, I didn't pull out my freecarve, but I did see a few folks there: A couple on Priors, one guy on a Volkl RennTiger (Part of the race team??) and a few other random sightings.
  8. Bonjour! I'm on my way up to Tremblant tomorrow. How are the trail conditions up there, or at the areas along the way? Should I be prepared for rocks, or is there a good base? Merci!
  9. What ski area? Did I not see that in your post?
  10. Title says it all. What are the trail conditions looking like at Mt Snow?
  11. Der. Isn't that one of the words in the riddle at the gondola shed at Loon? Hmmm.
  12. Not anymore... Usually. At least at Stratton, the grooming is so good, that the snow is fantastic, for at least an hour. Then it gets a bit choppy, but still managable. Last "winter" was particularly bad ... melting temps during the day, then rain/snow at night almost every week made for some rather miserable riding. But for that first hour or so, the rest of the riding was painful. Yes.
  13. I'm of the same mind as TrikerDad. I get out there early and carve as much as I can on the steeper stuff, but then when all the yahoos come out, I move to wider and flatter stuff. Some days crowds are almost impossible to avoid, so I usually wait for a gap, and start carving hard... frequently, most folks stop to watch, but I'll check up hill every other toeside to make sure I'm not about to be run over. Symetrical, predictable turns in a tight corridor as Dan suggests is also a great defense. Or, if you are lucky, have some skier friends ski uphill of you as blockers! But when the slopes get too crowded for carving, I switch to my skis and hit the bumps/trees.
  14. Great! I love buying new cars! However, all that stuff is available in a Wrangler??? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is the point? That's what the other "jeeps" are for, right? I would think the Liberty or Patriot would be more usefull in that price range, and be a heck of a lot more comfortable. I guess I just don't get "the Jeep Thing." It sounds like you will be utilizing the off-road capabilities, and your jeep will be getting dirty, and for that you get props!
  15. Yah, great race today! Props to Nicky for the championship, Rossi for the great fight, Bayliss for putting the smack down, and Pedrosa for helping the team! Bummer about Rossi's crash; he and Nicky were the two I was rooting for, and I was sad and glad that he crashed. Good show by KRJR and his 6th place championship!
