  1. I'm using old Oxygen 01 plate bindings with the doughnut ring with (little) built in cant/lift. I'm thinking I'll double up the cant/lift disk on the rear foot to push more more forward and maybe get a little inward cant going also. The board railed the toe side when I was centered (20+) but I had no control on the heelside. I'm much more comfortable at my 18- but the board isn't as snappy/responsive.
  2. Thanks guys......I turned my bindings up to 65/60 and that really helped...stil not there but much closer. Plates are an interesting idea I hadn't thought of.
  3. Took out the new Virus Avy AFT ALP - All I can say is Wow! Kills everything...groomers, ice, pow........... I tried you guys suggestion of a wider stance...started at 20.5 -just didn't feel right....after numerous adjustments I'm now back down to 18- Toe side still rails but my heel side is washing out. On the front foot I'm all the way back on the last set of mounting holes and on the rear foot I'm all the way forward on the first set of holes! I feel centered - I think I should move both feet up to load the nose to counter the heel side wash out but I got nowhere to go on the rear binding except backwards! I got lift but no cant on 60/55 My rear foot feels under powered/laging behind my body on the heelside - will try turning up the angles to 65/60 I'm use to a tight stance so I'm thinking of having another set of inserts/mounting holes added to the front and back foot down at the local ski race shop - anybody else tried this?? <!-- / message --> <!-- controls -->

  5. Thanks for the info guys I'll try wider -and Zolton I didn't mean to jack your thread. ....but where do you measure the stance width from??
  6. Where are you guys measuring the stance width on your board? From the center of one binding to the center of the other? If that's the case I'm 18.5 apart! Yikes! I'm 6'2" 200lbs with a 34 inseam. Conventional wisdom and math says I should around 20 inches?? I got F toe and R heel lift, but marginal from old Oxygen/fritchi 01 bindings with built in non adjustable lift. I'm using the supplied cant doughnuts to max inward (still marginal) cant on both bindings. Running 60/55 angles on a board that's 10 inches wide.
  7. Original owner and still cranking and carving on an 01 Sims Descender 159 and just retired a 01 Sims Daytona 163
  8. Mitch, Got the AFT board....OMG it's tha Bomb! Thanks, BJ
  9. What year are these from? Photos please: barryj01@msn.com
  10. Hey BloodyT, Isn't a steeper angle in the back unusal....not the norm??
  11. Ok.....wondering what the concensus is these days for setting up plate angles......I've been at 55/55 forever on old Oxygen 01's BJ
  12. Jack, Great post! ....and I'm old enough that I also owned that Chris Karol video!, it was the first eye opener to the mechanics of carving technique. ....and the second had to be this photo of Mark Fawcett from Alpine, 2001: I still have that mag and it's folded to that page and still pumps me with motivation each season and I refer back to it continually....so it was equally satisfying to see somebody else also saw something special in it and had keep it all these years and used it as a reference........ great technique and style stand the test of time!
  13. Hry Jaco...Thanks! What's Mastic?
  14. KC....naw, I make sure the that part of the liner is tucked in and I have to smooth it as I put on the boot because it's a real pain to try to smooth it back down and in if you wait until the last buckle!
  15. Another vote for the 50+! Really surprised to see that many of us. Started out in CO back in 85. I date back to having to pass a test to get to ride on any Mtn. in Vt or NH Even still got some of those "test" cards somewhere! Been doing alot of Road Biking for the summer/fall workout. Much better on the old joints than running, rock climbing or mountaineering! Did the Tahoe/Sierra Century this Fall.....it was Great! Surprised there's hardly any hardbooters up here in the Tahoe area!
  16. Bone Dry up here at 6000+ft...hasn't snowed since the week before Thanksgiving! This is a resort town(s) and lots of people leaving - no snow, no work! Just can't wait any longer. Forecast looks like we will be dry into Feb. Went rockclimbing New Years Eve in just shorts!
  17. Anybody had problems with the cuff of the liner bunching up?? I know I'm missing the spoliers but the back of the liner lifts up where the power strap goes thru and getys all twisted and is a pain to push back down every time I put them on!! Here's what's happening..... BJ
  18. Come on....I know somebody's got some 01 junk parts just sitting in the basement or a closet somewhere! Help a brother out, will ya!
  19. Anybody got any of the old Oxygen 01 bindings? I'm looking for any and all parts....most specifically: Rubber base rings Front bales.....manual or step in Yes, maybe I'm a dinosaur....but I've tried numerous versions of the TD's, Catek and Snopro and the old Oxygens are easier/simpler to adjust and have done the best job for me. If there is some other binding out there you guys think is similar let me know .......just don't ask how old my boards are.......... barryj01@msn.com
  20. $100 + shipping These are the sexy Red version....solid 9 out of 10 Just recently bought (hardly) used off this board, I used them once, just not enough forward adjustability for my 30.5 boots....so I'm over an inch behind the center mark.......probably best for a boot 29.5 or smaller email me at: barryj01@msn.com
  21. Good info guys...I'm gonna go with the 4X4...thanks! Rick, I ride Burke weekly (free pass from work) and I get around to one of the following, Cannon, Bretton Woods, Wildcat and Cranmore at least once a month. My son has a season pass to Cannon so I try to get out with him some.
  22. Thanks for the info guys..... My angles are steep enough that I don't hang over on either Sims...around 57 degrees regular on Oxygen 01 step in bindings. Besides wide open groomers I also like the narrow trails with more terrain to negoiate...that's why the shorter boards. The Descender has been the All Mtn. Carver for me and the Daytona has been the wide open groomer.....kinda looking for one do-all Board. Here's the stats for those boards: I had the board lengths wrong...... Daytona: length 162cm Waist 25.3cm Sidecut Radius 9m Flex 5.6 Descender: Length 157cm Waist 25.3 Sidecut R 8.7 Flex 6.7 What about a Prior ATV?
  23. OK...I an old and cheap SOB and I've been riding a Sims Descender 163 and a Sims Daytona 168, both bought new in 2001! I'm 6'2 and 225lbs, mondo 29.5 and get out at least once a week throughout the season and all though the Sims are still running strong I guess I might benefit from a newer ride. I'm riding in New England and have fun on blue/blacks doing mostly big, wide carves. So...I was thinking of a Prior 4X4 174....slighty used What do you guys say? Is this a move in the right direction or would you recommend something else?
