  1. des intéressés? où? Mont Saint-Sauveur (c'est combien? 33$/4hr; 38$/soirée) http://www.montsaintsauveur.com/Pages/Conditions Mont Habitant? (c'est combien? 22$/4hr; 25$/soirée) http://www.monthabitant.com/Templates/mont_Conditions.php
  2. Night: St-Sauveur & Habitant? Day: Habitant, Mont Blanc, Garceau
  3. last winter working at an outdoor shop I bought a commercial size platter of Swix F4 fluo wax, I still have 2-1/2 blocks left of the stuff :) and some 'snowcandy' paste (renamed F4 paste @ 1/4 the price).
  6. Burton Reactor (haven't tried them yet) Raichle AT/'Snowboarding' first generation boot
Where, when and how often do you guys think of boarding this season?
  8. I'm a rock/ice climber and am a junky for Arc'Teryx... Keep your layers simple so don't buy insulated gear, add on the layers when you need it. If it's below -10°C try to use softshells (windproof / water resistant) to decrease condensation. Always keep your shells clean and re-apply manufacturer's suggested water repellent on the outside (NO WASH-IN) as needed. Gore-Tex garments generally have descent warranties, coatings are a lot less durable over time (my bibs are Lowe Alpine triple point ceramic, very breathable but they wouldn't keep me dry under pouring rain anymore)
  9. It's happened a couple times. I find a softbooter on the hill carving some turns on a freeride/AM board. I just gravitate towards him and we start playing around a who can lay the smoothest cleanest line. One guy I talked to after, he'd never ridden hardboots but was seriously curious at trying it out at the next demo. He'd spent many days working on his carves but he saw possibilities when I accidently got locked into a high G / small radius carve, not something possible on his rig... There's a bunch of freeriders that enjoy going fast, carving and aren't interested in the whole 'sit on your ass' park scene. I think that getting these boarders attention and communicating with them can make an impact. Compliments and advice goes both ways.
  10. hehe, Now guess why I'm looking for a used pair of stiff boots. I'm still running with a first or second generation (re-labelled AT boot) Raichle 'snowboarding' boot, got them off a shelf many years ago collecting dust for 150$ CAD. Big problem is that they're too soft to really crank, but, they're amazing for bumpy runs when using a 'stiff' freeride or all mountain board.
  11. Little question, how many BX riders use hardboots? I had a couple friends back in the early 90's riding alpine gear for boardercross races. They were racing for fun, but always ending up in the top finishers, were comfortable doing moguls, glades and the parks with their alpine gear! One had an oxygen board, the other? Simply put, it's possible to do more than groomers when you're quick and agile, I could barely follow them though, apart from a day where Jay got 4 feet of powder to ease my landings. stores near Montreal: Sharks Performance Boardshop
  12. There needs to be demand for the gear or else it will never be stocked. Demand needs advertising and coverage. And yes, it's possible to make cheaper gear. I tried a BX board last spring, it didn't hold the edge for a long arc, but it was enough to lay some trenches. I know it's do-able to carve in softer ski boots, you don't get the angle release, but hey, most ski boots don't either. Bindings, there are a ton of used binding's out there. I have an old pair of SnowPro Interchanger, made specifically for rentals, don't tell me the stores/hill shops threw them in tne garbage!
  13. And then, there's the issue of media coverage. Sure, in Canada, we've got OTB playing but apart from that? I'm not expecting to see a WC race on TV, they'll play some generic pool/dart/poker footage before sending a single camera there... Anyone remember when snowboard magazines stopped showing & advertising Alpine gear? I suggest sending requests to your local/national media broadcasters to play or report on the sport, if no-one asks, why should they play it?
A+ Luc
  15. I nearly killed and brand new demo Prior 4WD, got spooked when it flexed beyond design. New boards do NOT behave the same way as the old race boards. You don't need to pressure the nose to engage a carve, some of them just leaning is enough! you have to re-learn how to board ;o) I was used to the stomp-in the nose, balance the carve, tail snap-spring to the other edge, a friggin workout, but I just loved snaping the tail and getting some air between the carves.
  16. I've been riding my PJ 5six (regular, great condition, rat-traps 50°-50°) up to last December. Tried the Volkl RT SL at a demo and got hammered by what I was missing out on... Found a Hot Shine with one season use for 95$ at a used ski shop (the only alpine board there.) Anyway's, my leg are in better shape this year, so if I was inclined for some retro, it wouldn't be as painfull to lay out some descent trenches. Now that I think about it, my Olympic's have the old combo plates on them ;o) Anyone else feeling like doing a retro day near Montreal? oh, need someone to help out with organizing South Quebec Session next February, Dave is gonna be too busy.
Since Dave will probably be very busy with the new addition to the family, he won't be able to plan the SQS... Any Volunteers?
  18. 94-95 season with borrowed stiff softboots and directional freeride board. Later I inherited a new PJ 5 which I still have (in great shape), classic burton mouse-trap binding, red beat-up raichle downhill boots (why the hell did I junk those???)
  19. some people may need the DivX codec to play the avi files... http://www.divx.com/en/downloads
  20. Piratebay blocks my ISP or vice versa... Please help out with the seeding, I'm doing this from somewhere I shouldn't... so I won't be seeding for ever.
