1. As the posts suggest, all are excellent choices and you really can't go wrong. My suggested optimal itnerary would be: Day 1: Copper. Keystone after dark (Bonus: if you hit it Wednesday night the Bomber crew might be there). Day 2: Vail. Days 3-5: Any chance you could persuade the family to reunite on the slopes? Those are the best types of gatherings IMO. If it would help, give a shout before you hit Vail and I'd be happy to share some local beta on some excellent powder stashes, trees, and optimal carving runs. Have a great trip! B-2
 2. Give a shout if you make it to Vail. I'd be happy to share local beta and hopefully blast a few runs with you. It's snowing here, again. Augurs well for a strong early season. Cheers, B-2

 5. Saw this while perusing the AASI site. Thought I'd link to the posting as it seems that there are several folks here who have tech backgrounds and might consider relocating to the front range: http://www.psia.org/01/home/DBA.asp FWIW. 9. For post-production work, I've had good results using image>adjust>curves (Ctrl M) for each layer in Photoshop.
 10. One way I've found to bump up the resolution from video footage and get results suitable for making larger prints is to use an image-resizing program like Genuine Fractals. While the results are by no means as tack-sharp as those from a XXMP DSLR, they are passable for many print jobs. Colleagues have reported that HD is a much better solution for multi-frame high-rez, but if you don't yet have an HD video camera, you may find GF is OK in the meantime.
 11. <align="left">Bruce Sato, 45, supervisor and staff trainer with the Squaw Ski and Snowboard School, former PSIA-National Snowboard Team member and longtime AASI-W trainer/examiner, was tragically killed in a kiteboarding accident on Washoe Lake in California.

Bruce enjoyed a long and distinguished career in the ski industry, starting at Ski Roundtop in the early 80s. He then moved west, through the years serving as instructor and staff trainer at Mammoth Mountain, as supervisor and staff trainer at Squaw, and as Ski School Director at Mt Hood Meadows and Mt Bachelor. Most recently he worked as supervisor and head trainer for exam candidates (both ski & snowboard) at Squaw. Throughout that time he served as divisional trainer/examiner for PSIA/AASI-W.

If you teach snowboarding, you have likely been influenced by Bruce’s work. In his many years of service with PSIA and AASI, Bruce took a leadership role in the development of educational resources for snowboard instructors, including contributing to some of the earliest PSIA snowboard manuals, developing national standards for snowboard instructors, and directing/producing the 1995 PSIA Snowboard Images video.

An avid outdoorsperson, Bruce brought an unbridled passion and enthusiasm for the mountains to his work—directly touching the lives of many thousands of people.

A memorial service is scheduled June 25 on the Sundeck at Squaw Valley.

In memory of Bruce Sato

A memorial service will held
June 25, 2006
At 11 a.m.
On the Olympic House Sundeck,
Squaw Valley USA, California

Cards or condolences may be sent for delivery to Bruce’s mother care of:
Mike and Evie Costello
P.O. 12. ...all work except base grinds. Haven't needed to do any major repairs since I moved west as the snow has been deep, but I would definitely bring it in to a shop to do base welds, edge replacement, etc.
 13. Interesting thread and nice pics. I've worked with 8fps motor drives and haven't found them as useful for photosequencing as sometimes the key move falls between the frames. So far, I've had better results with 30 fps digital video, which gives more frames per second, but at significantly lower resolution than a DSLR. Has anyone yet made the jump to HD video yet?
 14. Pali and East Wall closed for the season. Good riding on all groomers and ski/board compacted slopes, but a spring rock board is recommended as the slushy, dusty snow is getting thin in spots. The recent warm weather has created rotten, collapsable snow off-piste. Hard to hold an arc when the bottom falls out.
 15. A-Basin still going strong. Full coverage and excellent grooming top to bottom. 4-6 inches of blown-in fresh this morning. Well worth a trip if you're considering it. Not surprisingly, midweek is far less crowded than Beach Party weekends. Last weekend for Pali. Get it while you can.
 16. Was up yesterday. Great top-to-bottom coverage. Groomed slopes still sensational for carving, Pali bumps still rocking, and hiking areas (East Wall, North Pole Chutes, Snakepit) all still very well covered. We hit Snakepit yesterday and rode several inches of fresh untracked snow atop a smooth subsurface--it was worth the hike. Keep in mind you'll be rocking spring conditions--frozen in the early am, and softening up through the morning. Recommended and worth a trip if you're in the area.
 17. Both good choices. If I had to choose, I'd go with the CO pass because of more areas, variety, and late season at A-Basin. Night sking at Keystone also a bonus. Either way, you can't go wrong. Addendum: New next season, the CO Pass next season offers unlimited skiing riding at Vail/Beaver Creek after 1 April (in addition to the 10 days already included with the pass.)
 18. As many have mentioned on this and other threads, touching the snow is not the issue. When you rip a carved turn at speed, you must incline into the turn. The faster and tighter the turn, the greater the inclination. When you're blasting arcs at speed, this will result in the "snow coming to you." Reaching for the snow (where touching the snow is the focus) can be problematic, as it can result in bending at the waist, which does not put you in a good position to effectively adjust edge angle, steer the board, or to manage forces in a turn. IMO it doesn't look so hot, either.
 19. Without question, the Basin rocks and is a great place to ride in mid-April. If you're considering a trip over the pass, here's beta on late-season operations at Vail. Hope it's snowing where you are! Cheers, B-2
 20. Like ShrederJen I've been crayoning over the entire base, then ironing it in. I haven't tried pre-heating the wax against the iron, however. I just rub a room-temp bar along the entire base. This has been the best way I've found, so far, to maintain the base while minimizing wasted wax. Makes scraping and clean-up a snap, too. Crayoning has also helped me to spot small surface irregularities on the base, such as small waves created from a less-than-perfact base grind, and dimples caused by binding-suck. The low spots tend to be missed by the crayoning, making them very easy to see.
 21. ..seen this thread. It's been snowing and the conditions should be good. Might want to consider bringing a fat board for freshies. Have fun, B-2
 22. Before you foreswear softies for life, you might want to try them riding in deeper, softer snow. I think you'd like 'em.
 23. Yup. You'll get good results polishing the edges using successively finer stones in the file guide. This will maintain bevel angles while polishing your edges silky smooth. In case you haven't yet seen it, check out the Tognar site, which includes some useful info on doing this. Hope this helps, or that you see snow so deep that razor-sharp edges are unnecessary.
