Ex-Canadian, now British national team rider...if I'm right ?

I've done my level 1 last year with Dominique Langelier, very knowledgeable person.

Pour ce qui est de Ste-Anne, en début de saison, lorsqu'il ouvre une piste, elle est en excellente condition ( 9 fois sur 10 ). Le problème à la mi-novembre est qu'il n'y a que 2,3 ou 4 pistes d'ouvertes. Avant 10h, c'est correct pour carver, entre 10h et 14h, c'est l'enfer car tout le monde vient faire son p'tit tour. Après 14h...les conditions ne sont plus là. Dès qu'il y a 7-8 pistes ouvertes, plus ce problème. En saison, tout le versant nord, le Gros Vallon", la "Momo" ( Montmorency), l'Express, etc. sont des pistes Superbes pour la carving.

J'ai croisé Pat cet été, il était en train de monter un programme pour reprendre ses pratiques de gates "pour tous", un soir / semaine comme il a déjà fait dans le passé. Habitant ??

Effectivement, à Mont Blanc, la gang de l'école de Glisse a un groupe de jeunes riders en Race. Ils sont au moins une dizaine de jeunes en race, la relève si on peut dire. Ils ont eu une course NorAm il y a 3 ou 4 ans. Il y a eu une course Coupe Québec/FIS l'an dernier. Un groupe dynamique La photo n'est peut-être pas la plus définie, mais c'est Jasey-Jay à droite contre Sebastien Beaulieu ( A.k.a. SEB on BOL ) dans la Renard lors de la Course FIS de janvier dernier. Jasey venait de gagner le Championnat du Monde la semaine avant et avait décidé de venir courir avec les jeunes à Mont Blanc !

Sebastien is known as "SEB" on BOL, PGS Canadian Junior Champion. I believe he was in Chile with Quebec team for summer training. Superbee

I'm using a Hand Strap with my Canon SLR. I'm leaving the camera "on", always ready even going down, taking the chairlift, etc. The Canon hand strap make the thing so comfortable. For this reason, I'm using skis w/o poles, all the time. Maybe one day, I should try to get back to Telemark. But last winter as I was watching a ski patrol on Tele coming in for an injured skier, he removed his tele and forgot few seconds about them...it was funny to see the ski patrol running downhill like hell, trying to catch his telemark skis...

Preliminary FIS Calendar shows: Nor-Am races: - Copper Mountain ( 2 PGS ): November 12-13th ( one week earlier than usual ) - Steamboat ( PGS/PSL ): December 11-12th ( 3-4 weeks earlier than usual ) World Cup Race: - Telluride : December 17th ( PGS ) - December 19th ( World Cup SBX ) 20th ( FIS - Team event ? ) For PGS, this would make sense to have the 2 NorAm events to figure who will go to the World Cup in PGS and then figure at Telluride who will go to the Olympic. For SBX...run the WC event ( 19th ) and then keep the team an extra day ( 20th ) to figure ?? Superbee

If I was a ski hill owner ( or the insurance company ), I would required all rental people to wear an helmet. 99% of them are beginners, most of them at their first days of ski/snow. Mountain biking rental at my ski hill required an helmet, but not ski/snow :confused: Learning to ski/snow with an helmet should be mandatory

Mont Blanc, close to Tremblant has a "rookie" team, part of Snowboard/Ski School program. Coach: Pierre Depont ( his daughter Jade is a NorAm Racer, member of Patrick Gaudet team ) Team dedicated to Weekend+Xmas programs ( 30+ days ) for young racers ( 8-16 yrs old ). They race provincial & USASA level events. They have 1 or 2 athletes at FIS level. Team size: 20 athletes, 2 coaches As the kids grow up, they join Pat Gaudet team at Tremblant Snowboard Club. .

The Tremblant crew managed long week of challenges. The day before the PGS event, the run was unskiable with 8 inches of "mashed potatoes" due to heavy rain. Again, it was impossible for a snowcat to groom the run. They bet on a freezing night to groom at midnight and the following morning, they poured fertilizer to settle the snow. The slipping crew with 15-20 skiers was very busy during all-day for 2 days, sometimes slipping the run every 2 riders. The PGS/PSL racers were able to have a clean & ICY runs, just like they love. Just outside were banks of supersoft melting snow, small mistake outside the trajectory were penalizing heavily riders, but everybody was aware...and it was Tuesday & Wednesday conditions. Tremblant Team succeeded to have 90 volunteers for the PGS/PSL course for mid-week days ! Congrats !!

I know in Quebec, they have those RBC riders races since at least 3 years. They run those events during the same weekend as SBX events ( provincial races or major event ) , trying to take advantage of the publicity. I was never involved directly but people are telling they are fairly easy to organize. A group of 6-8 people could do the job. As part of the WC events at Stoneham last month, they ran the RBC Riders race the day after the WC SBX, using part of the SBX run from what I understand. Doris Guenther, AUT ( Apex board, Deeluxe, ?? riser, Burton binding ) Jasey Jay managed a 5th place losing to Benjamin K in quarter finals, Mathew Morrison finished 10th. Alexa 20th, Kimiko 21st Course was hardpack to icy condition. Very light snow during the day, nothing to affect conditions. The course was very "turny" and a lot of racers did small mistakes. You had to stay focus up to the end. In the steep section Benjamin Fairchild fell and...went over the B-net. He hurts his arm, hope nothing too serious for Sunday River.

Petits conseils pour Ste-Anne: La "Momo" ( Montmorency ) reste un beau défi pour le carving. C'est facile d'accès à côté des "Bulles" ( quadruple ) du versant sud. Le traffic dans la Momo est faible à modéré toute la journée car c'est une "noire" dans un secteur d'intermédiaires. Sur le versant sud aussi, il y a le "Gros Vallon" ou la "Crête", mais il faut faire attention car l'achalange peut devenir plus élevé. Sur le versant nord: La Paradeuse sous les chaises ou La Bélanger sont très intéressantes. Plus facile au nord, il y a la Quanik pour relaxer. Photo de SEB dans la Momo l'an dernier:

At ECES 2006 at Sugarloaf, after 3+ hours of driving, I realized I had forgot my jacket. Hopefully my 2nd layer is a "Windstopper" T-Neck, so I decided to stay like that for the day since it was almost spring weather. But by 14h30, a blizzard came on Sugarloaf and I had to stop and shop at their local shop, bought a Spyder "Coach Jacket" ( the long one ) that I still love today. For now on, I always keep my "Windstopper" T-Neck as a second layer

Les planches "Metal" ( = avec du Titanal dans leur structure ) sont très différentes des autres planches. Elles ont des capacités d'absorption qui fait en sorte de moins vibrer sur le dur et ainsi de rester "coller" sur la piste. C'est la raison pourquoi 100% des coureurs utilisent des planches "Metal", que ce soit des Kessler, des Sigi, des Coilers, des Prior ou autres. Prior a commercialisé sa WCR Metal il y a 3 ans et c'était le premier fabricant à vendre des Metal facilement accessible au public. C'est une planche très différente des WCR ou 4WD. Les riders ont l'impression de rouler sur du "smooth", même pour "messieur tout le monde" ( par opposition aux coureurs ). Email moi, je pourrais avoir quelques choses...

J'ai entendu cet histoire d'Hydro-Québec vs le 31 janvier il y a 4 ans. Depuis, chaque année, le Mont Ste-Anne et Stoneham entre autres respectent cette date à la lettre. Cette année le 30-31 janvier Ste-Anne enneigeait 8-10 pistes, il y avait des canons partout. Le 1er février, ils avaient tous disparus, comme à la fin du bal de Cendrillon. En plus, les employés au Mont Ste-Anne sont syndiqués...et bien les gars qui opèrent les canons à neige, souvent dans des conditions très difficiles, ne peuvent se trouver des jobs ailleurs dans la montagne, ce qui leur donne entre le début novembre et le 31 janvier comme paye = Pas "vargeux" comme salairem, même pas assez pour le chomâge. Alors à chaque année, c'est presque tous des nouveaux qui opèrent les canons sur la montagne en novembre...avec les résultats qu'on peut s'attendre. Le jour de marmotte...

La date précise pour les canons à neige est le 31 janvier, gracieuseté d'HYDRO-QUEBEC. Après cette date, les stations de ski sont sur une autre tarification si ils veulent faire de la neige artificielle, alors la majorité d'entre elles jugent cela non-rentable d'opérer les grosses pompes, bouffeuses de KWh. Pour ce qui est des conditions à Ste-Anne, un seul mot résume le tout: Rapide ! les 12 cm annoncés, c'est de la foutaise. Le stationnement n'avait pas un seul grain de neige à un kilomètre à la ronde. Sur le sommet, il était peut-être tombé 4-5 cm, mais le tout avait disparu avec les vents très forts de la nuit de vendredi.

I'm not familar with the setup at Cypress, but was it the same setup they are going to use for the Olympics ? This was the last chance to prove out the facilities before the Big Event...
