  1. These guys have stances even the baggiest panted boarder would envy. And unless you are severly pigeon toed this is way unnatural.
  2. Hmm. With all the new SB carving specific boards that are just now coming out (Donek Razor, Incline, Sabre / Swoard Dual / Kessler and SG Boarder cross boards etc.) it seems that what is NEW to talk about IS SOFTBOOT CARVING! I'm sure an asym from 91 is better than the Kessler BX. Right?
  3. So there should be no discussion on the Donek Razor, Incline, or Saber, the Swoard Dual, ANY Boarder cross threads AT ALL even when discussing Kessler or SG, and if someone has a sick SB carve photo or video he should go to.... Hmmm. Maybe the only way to be a non-conformist and a snowboarder now is to carve on softboots?
  4. Nothing more natural or "far from silly" than watching a skier explode on the slope. Snowboarding is a simplified, more fluid way of sliding down the hill verses the cumbersome, gear overloaded, and awkward 2 plank version. Nothing more visually disturbing than watching a skier wedge a straight line down the hill with arms out.
  5. I couldn't find the video segment with Farmer, but here's a nice one. If you go to 3:13. Don't blink you might miss it. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GyapY5vEa4&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GyapY5vEa4&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> I miss these days when snowboarding had balls.
  6. We need to switch over to the metric system and make it easy for everyone!
  7. I can't remember what video it was but the rider was Farmer taking an entire first decent in Alaska straight top to bottom. He went from peek to bottom in the amount of time it took the camera guy to zoom in.
  8. The number of skiers on here is a bit thick. (I couldn't believe the results of my heritage thread, thought there'd be more boarders than skiers) Sure on groomed and packed runs skiers are faster (only from what I've been told, never been able to prove that true myself in application), but even with the new powder skis I say we (snowboarders) still rule the soft stuff. And if a skier does go faster than a board in powder I'd wager that either the snow wasn't that deep and soft or the boarder sucked or the boarder was riding too short or narrow board. I know I'm going to get bombarded by skiers (something you wouldn't expect on a snowboard site), but let the barage begin.
  9. Straight airs - 86 Burton Performer 145 (1987) 180's & 360's - 88 Sims Blade 171 (1989) 1st laid out carve - 89 Burton Air 161 (1990) Jibs, log and ski rack slides (no such thing as a park yet), 180/360 grabs and fakie 360s - Santa Cruz 155 (1991/92) Return to the carve - 99/00 Sims 171 (2006)
  10.:lol::lol: That's perfect!!! I know just the guy! We worked together in high school at the local skate shop, but because he was big into computers he got promoted to the distributor to do inventory and other computer geek stuff so over the years he spent more time inside and hasn't been on a board in over a decade while me and Doug (another guy that worked at the shop) still ride every week sometimes 2-3 times.
  11. I've done first and last name before. The hard part was shutting it off between names.
  12. Of the 3 that Sims 170 will be more popular on this forum. That board would make an awesome all-mountain board and it has carving capabilities. I've had 2 Sims boards, both 171 and both have been favorites of mine.
  13. Wasn't there a post about a skier who drowned because the helmet got wedged between 2 rocks in a creek?
  14. I know the study you are talking about with the seat belts and that has been around since before airbags and is based on lap belts without shoulder harnesses or wearing your seat belt with the shoulder harness behind you. In an accident with only a lap belt your upper body if free to slam into the steering wheel or dash board and the lap belt itself can do serious damage to your abdominal area. Wearing a seat belt with a shoulder harness properly will always be better. Unless the car is sinking in water and the belt is jammed.
  15. TT's mom is so stupid she choked on a hard boot because it said Head.:lol::lol: Come on, that's funny!;)
  16. Couldn't go to sleep so came up with these. Must be slap happy. 1. Yo momma so fat when she carves her a$$ drags the snow... TOESIDE! 2. Yo momma so fat the last trench she carved became a tourist attraction called the Grand Canyon 3. Yo momma so fat her waist has the same measurements as the side cut of my Tinkler 4. Yo momma so fat she thinks Extreme Carving is what you do on Thanksgiving 5. Yo momma so fat her board has more metal than the Eiffel Tower 6. Yo momma so fat her board never leaves the ground. And that's going up on the lift! Add your own!
  17. Tomorrow I'm going riding because we've recently had some rain so that will definately put an end to the cushy soft conditions we've been having now for the last 3 weeks. Hopefully everyone is too sore or sick of riding that nobody will be out tomorrow. I'll have all the crud to myself!!! I'm hoping anyway.
  18. I'm there with you on the old school tricks. I actually had a kid on the lift go "What was that" when I threw a not so smooth cross-rocket. More like an attempt, I can't tweak that far anymore and only got one hand on. I should have snatched up that pair of old Burton Stumpies I saw on E-bay back in Dec., those would have helped.:D
  19. Sounds like "skootch" leg. You aren't doing any hardboot crosscountry snowboading are you? <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4w7sVSMbjyM&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4w7sVSMbjyM&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>
  20. Do you mean today or a week from today? Mondays are prime time for no crowds. They've got a good base still and they've really stepped up their grooming over the last several years. (Hang on I' see they've changed the names of the runs, usually don't look at the trail maps) I spend most of my days on the Upper and Lower Mad River run, the Chute, and Regulator. Some really wide spaces on those 3. Sometimes they run gates on the Chute. The Chute used to be much narrower but they cleared out bunch of trees a few years ago.
  21. Louie Vito is from my home mountain. We rode together a few times way back when before he went pro. His mom always used to drive him out 2-3 times a week and would sit in the lodge for hours while he rode. While his parents were buying him all his gear, passes, and carting him around and sitting for hundreds of hours a season in the lodge, I was lucky to keep my parents from taking my board away at that age. (that was way before snowboarding was in the olympics and even before most resorts even permited snowboarding, they thought it was some fad that was going to die out and I'd lose interest. Hmm, they've changed their tune over the years)
  22. It must have been alien technology!
  23. How is it a thread gets this long on what the riders are wearing? I feel like I'm watching the "E" network when they do their red carpet fashion special.:p If I feel like it I will upload some photos of my current wardrobe. (Killer Loop pants, Bamboo Curtain pants, Gotcha jacket, Kombi gloves, and Bamboo Curtain jacket) Now THAT'S style! Here's a quick pic of me sporting a lovely combo consisting of one Quicksilver cap with a grundgie Bamboo Curtain "garage jacket" complimented with the Killer Loop pants with removable knee pads, the Kombi "King" gloves finishes the look with a sort of "who gives a f%$#" feel.
  24. I was going through some old photos in my files on my pc and came across this photo I took of myself while on a toe-side carve. Holding the camera out in front, pointing back at me, I snapped this in an attempt to capture the moment. Had I not been focused on taking the picture (which isn't a great one, but all things considered...) I'm sure I would have gotten lower.;) Actually my rear hand is aiming more behind me than down in order to compensate for my front hand being held out in front. Anywho, here's my attempt at riding and photographing myself. I've also lost some weight since then. One more thing... 2 years ago I was just getting into this on SB and an outdated freeride Sims.
