  1. Not sure about the percentages however.... I have English blood. My mother's maiden name is Severn and if you follow our history there is a Severn Castle and coat of arms, also the Severn River in England (not sure if direct decent). Great grandmother on mother's side is Cherokee. Father's side German (grandfather was in WWII in a U-boat... US, he came to the states as a child) and also Irish and a splash of Ukraine.
  2. You'd think I would have put that in the options!:o
  3. I wanted to see what everyone's background on here was. I guess I'd have to say that I was originally a skateboarder. I've surfed, and started snowboarding as a "jibber" or "freestyler", then evolved into a carver. I've skied a handful of times and find minimal enjoyment from it. Wanted to know if others had similar backgrounds or if everyone else was different.
  4. I wonder if you could use it to clear your driveway?
  5. I used to love the bumps. At A-basin I remember looking down at what looked like a field of VW Bugs covered in snow. Speaking of different riding styles I took my daughter in the park last night to teach her how to do the step-up and gap jumps. Haven't done this in about 5 years but figured it'd be like riding a bike, unfortunatly I wasn't on a bike. On my first hit I did show her the proper way to roll down the windows and also proper technique for falling. After a few more attempts I got it back and realized there are a hand full of grabs I just can't reach anymore. I'm telling myself it's because I was riding stiffer boots.
  6. sent e-mail, try me at photodad2001@yahoo.com
  7. I don't see how they ride with so much stuff on. Even when I was a young jibber I kept my pants up, knees together, neoprene face mask only if needed, and definately no wires. Tried wearing head phones once, hated it. (of course the stuff was considerably bigger and heavier back then and it was either listening to AM/FM radio or listening to a cd skip the whole way down... that or a casset)
  8. My mom made me play violin, how'd you get off so easy?
  9. Your status is based on the number of posts you've made. Just respond with LOL or +1 to a bunch of other people's posts and you'll work your way up the ladder.
  10. Are carvers going door to door recruiting like Jehovah's witnesses? Or do we have a recruiting station set up where they can trade in their spiked belts and bandanas for a precision board and hair cut? Just saying there's been a lot of "Hi, I'm new to carving" posts in the last week. Is it the time of year?
  11. I've made arrangements to buy another board and need the cash by next week. $50 + shipping. You can't buy wall art for $50!
  12. 1999 Burton Alp 171. This was the last year Burton made the Alp model. The base is super clean, edges are in great shape (just need a tune), top sheet is chip free, there are some stress cracks around the rear insert holes but only in the top sheet. Waist width is 21.5. Asking $100 plus shipping. (or best offer)
  13. Objective To work here for the summer. Currently attending a far away university. Education Harvard University - 1989 – current year Studying some brainiac topic. Let’s call it polytetrafluoroethylenology. High School - Yes Without this, I wouldn’t be in university.. duh! Elementary School - I don’t like to talk about it because my teacher sexually assaulted me. Also I was home schooled. Hobbies • Lying about my education. • Playing beer pong. • Calling 1-900 numbers • Collecting water bongs. (for tobacco use of course) * I am the leader of a 6,000 member clan on World of Warcraft. Conclusion You should hire me because I attend Harvard University. At the bar you’ll be able to brag to all your other manager friends that you hired someone from Harvard and they’ll get super jealous! Who knows, they may even buy you a drink. From hiring me you may get promoted to a higher position! Just imagine the possibilities!! Please call me after 5:30 because I am self-employed and my employer does not know I am looking for another job
  14. Willywhit banned? What happened?
  15. True, but only if the "flat" is "flat". Tracked snow or choppy, slushy, cruddy, whatever... even in the flats will play with your boards direction a bit and keeping a subtle edge keeps you going straight. Equipment can't do it all.
  16. I usually don't go out on Sunday, but I had Monday free and holiday pricing at the local hill is obscene (MLK day), so I went to the local watering spot and discovered on Sunday they have insane beer specials. The dollar domestic drafts (20 oz.) was pleasant enough, but the 2 dollar premium drafts (also 20 oz.) left me speachless. (Or at least slurring a little) I say this cause of the selection they have. Besides the standard Guiness, Sam Adams, Blue Moon, New Castle, etc. they have Dogfish Head 90 minute, Arrogant Bastard, Leinenkugels Classic Amber, and some of the Great Lakes brews like their Oktoberfest and Nosferateu, all on tap. I know there were probably about 3 or 4 more I can't remember. They had one that was a blonde and had a surfboard for the tap handle, and they even get more in over the summer. I might have to change my work schedule around so I have Sundays free every week.
  17. I was thinking a Depends ad. "Tierd of those emarassing urine stains? Get Depends, now with extra tailbone protection. (In association with RED snowboarding products)".
  18. Chances are they are indoors in front of a backdrop or green screen and had they been wearing the boards on their feet they would have been touching the floor. Regaurdless, it looks funny and the only place I've had to do that is on the gondola at Keystone and my board rode outside mounted to a rack.
  19. I bought my daughter a BMX helmet last year because it had the face gaurd and it was light and there's a bike shop that had a bigger selection than the local board or ski shop. Got a great deal on it too since I didn't have to special order it and there was an ample supply. Here's a video from last year showing her using it. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbgDi_RMVVg&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbgDi_RMVVg&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
  20. When I was teaching my daughter to snowboard I wouldn't even strap my back foot in. I was always having to hike back up the hill and would ride the whole run one footed. One time when I didn't have my daughter I challenged myself to see how difficult of a run I could do top to bottom with my back foot out. I've done every run at my local hill that way and the greens and a couple blues I did pretty fast. Even rode fakie one footed.
  21. I know the type, I've got a friend like that and if he's anything like my friend he probably has asked you to go to a strip club if not once, several times. Next time he asks, tell him, "Why would I want to go out and look at real women, talk with them, and have them physically touch me while they give me a lap dance, where I can smell the perfume they are wearing, when I can stay at home and watch porn on my computer?". See if he makes the connection. Edit: Or better yet, next time he wants to go get a burger just tell him to play "Burger Time" instead.
  22. Don't sweat it, it's just Tex being Tex. Sorry I haven't posted more to give him his daily dose of self-righteousness.:)
  23. When you put it that way I guess my daughter's carving has priority when it comes to cost cause I've had to buy new boots/board/jacket/pants/gloves/goggles/etc. nearly every year. And the past 2 years her tickets have been full price so for my daughter that'd be about $300 and for myself (no new gear for myself this year) about half that so $150. Now we usually go together so one day between the 2 of us would be $450. (That includes 2 stops at BK/McD's/TB 1 there and 1 back, plus gas)
  24. Is this a crowded day with crud or perfect conditions with only a few buds?
  25. From my experience dealing with the "you cut me off" arguement is that they feel that the slope is like a road and you follow the road and don't cut across traversly, especially as dramatically as we do. I've had skiers AND snowboarders yell from above "Watch it!". I really don't think they know the rule and also think what we are doing is what is hazordous, not them.
