  1. If the elbow is dragging, do you concider that a racing carve or an EC carve? (or are you one of the intolerant types that is in denial that you can't carve in softboots?)
  2. I'd have to disagree. I see EC as pushing the limits how deep you can carve while staying in control. I disagree with those who say it's a "controlled fall", perhaps some put there arm down to help them balance, I've seen some video where the riders arm is throwing up tons of snow and heard others talk about arm and shoulder injuries doing this. I've been wearing the same pair of gloves for 15 years so I'm not putting any pressure on the snow with my hand, it just skims the surface with mearly a couple ounces of pressure if that, usually I keep it just off the surface. The "race" style carving I was doing years before I started pushing myself into the EC or as I've known it "Alpine" carving. If I'm missing some hidden technique about race carving let me know because between the 2 I find EC to be more chanllenging.
  3. Here's a vid clip of my daughter on her first time out on the water. The wind was light and variable, but she was able to glide around a bit. Sailed out, tacked, and sailed back to shore first time without even getting her hair wet. <object width="320" height="240" ><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="movie" value="http://www.facebook.com/v/1428195515157" /><embed src="http://www.facebook.com/v/1428195515157" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="320" height="240"></embed></object>
  4. Not trying to get into this heated debate, but if you look at the shadow the rider is throwing you'll notice it's about 50 foot long. The sun angle is making the surface appear to be much more uneven than it is. This same footage taken at high noon would look like a smooth canvas. Just making an observation, not trying to step outside the BOL company line. Good video in my opinion though, just wanted to clear up a visual discrepancy.
  5. I'm starting my 10 yr. old windsurfing this year. We gave it a shot last year, but she didn't have the strength to uphaul the 3.5 trainging sail I had. This year I got her a Jr. Neilpryde 2.5 dacron/monofilm sail with jr. boom and jr. carbon 370 mast to boot. Done some dryland exercises and will be getting in the water this weekend.
  6. The "Dale Bail". Dale Cook gets caught up in a huge air and decides he's passed his limit for big air and pushes the ejector seat button. Biggest air I've seen on a windsurfer. Had to bail for self presservation. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqjM68ZRg70&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqjM68ZRg70&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
  7. Just so you know, us Buckeyes (people from Ohio), have our own freshwater shore break on Lake Erie. Here's a few videos. (and of course wind and kite surfing are even more common on the great lake) <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEzkPrDe6gc&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEzkPrDe6gc&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DidnhEYWVMg&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DidnhEYWVMg&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
  8. I just want to add one more name to the list of greats that's been named. Yes, Christian Fletcher, Kelly Slater, Tom Curren... but there's been a name unmentioned that needs to be included in the "imortals" list, and that is Mark "Occy" Occhilupo. Now also, not neccisarily "technical", but also a surf legend for big wave and an inovator in that field is Laird Hamilton. The most powerful and diverse "waterman" to walk the planet. Laird... <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0Pw7vKtqpo&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0Pw7vKtqpo&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
  9. The human race is evolving. He has small suction cups on the bottoms of his feet no doubt. :D
  10. It's been a while... do you know if they allow this style in competition? I think that's why most people (people who don't keep up on their own) haven't seen this type of riding. I saw a guy at the Buxton pier, OBX, catchin' mad air and riding out of it about 10 years ago.
  11. That was Demolition Man. It was up there with Judge Dredd on the Sly bad movie list. If you go to Youtube you can "not watch" the rest if you want.
  12. We keep getting closer to this every year. The US is not the same country it was 30 years ago. <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeCjFiZOtdE&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeCjFiZOtdE&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
  13. Check out this kid. One sick individual. It's like watching a surfing video game in real life. <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWFkCyO4gR4&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWFkCyO4gR4&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
  14. Swimming can be cardio, aerobic, anaerobic, resistance, just about any level of exercise you want it to be, you just have to change your routine in the water. Long distance swims vs. short sprints with fins and hand paddles. Swimming is also the best way to excercise if you have nasty joint injuries. You can also do "high altitude" training by restricting your breathing to every 6-8 strokes for distance, or doing whole laps with no breath for sprint. I'd recommend not using scuba fins though. You want a short rigid fin, similar to what you'd use with a body board (surf mat).
  15. I've been using my bike to make short errands. I can do a lot within 10 miles of my house (bank, UDF, Pet store, Wal-mart, auto parts store...), and I've saved a lot on gas.
  16. Thanks! Unfortunately the B-day cake was for my friends son. My daughter got all excited about chocolate cake, then after trying it only ate the icing.
  17. Gives new meaning to "Rice cakes". I think I will pass, and try not to tell my friends wife, she may actually think that sounds good.
  18. Why not come out and say it. "If it's WHITE it's NOT RIGHT". Is this topic picking up racial vibes?
  19. My problem is I eat whatever is in the house, so I had to stop buying it. I was still buying "junk" for my daughter. It took my daughter a while to come around to some of the things I was buying, but today we had whole grain pasta with "garden blend" sauce (basically your standard spagetti sauce with diced onion, mushroom, tomato, carrots, and peppers) with a glass of skim milk. Had been drinking the 1%, but figured I may as well go all the way. For desert I had a banana and she had an apple. A friend of mine has gone the "organic" route, mostly due to his wife. Now THAT takes some getting used to. Ever had a chocolate birthday cake made with organic whole grain flour? It's a bit gritty and I don't think you could put enough icing or ice cream on it to make it taste like it's supposed to. You must not be over 30. In my early 30's I hit a point where I could no longer go to McDonalds and have 2 Big Macs, large fry, and a 10 piece McNugget and not gain a pound. Now I put on weight just smelling it.
  20. The most effective way to lose weight without losing muscle is to have 2 different work-outs you use throughout the week and to eat healthy foods, multiple times throughout the day. 1. Work-outs should be at the minimum everyother day, if you go more than 48 hours inbetween workouts you lose anything you gained from your previous work-out. 2. Combine a mixture of aerobic and weight lifting. Aerobic will burn calories the fastest WHILE doing the exercise and weight lifting will build muscle which will allow you to burn more calories at rest. The more lean tissue you have, the greater your basal metabolic rate. 3. Work-outs should also increase in intensity and if possible time and/or frequency. Doing the same weights, reps, laps, miles, etc. each time will cause platues. 4. Eat when you are hungry. The body tries to preserve energy (storing calories, fat) when certain triggers occur such as hunger. Starving yourself will only lower your metabolism. Eat several small meals throughout the day. Your body also has a "set point" (a weight that your body wants to return to), in order to fool your body you need to lose the weight slowly otherwise you will lose some weight, but many people end up going right back to their old weight. Eating frequently helps increase your metabolic rate. (I have a tough time with this one with my schedule) 5. Eat smart. You're going to need the proper fuel if you're going to exercise. Junk food is high in calories but low in the nutrients you need to build muscle so you're not getting the most out of your work-out. Veggies, lean meats and beans for protein, grains, fruits, low-fat dairy, and lots of water. You need carbs for those aerobic work-outs so skip the fad diets, they are only temporary, quick fixes, and not healthy in the long run.
  21. I didn't see windsurf, but surf was up there so I chose that.
  22. ...this is sick. <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_v2yLEWato&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_v2yLEWato&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
  23. Yes, yes, I know you ride soft, trying to be a good boy now but if you keep shoving it down my throat what am I supposed to do? Trying to work it out, trying to agree to some views, but getting slammed. Hard boots are the IDEAL for carving, realistically, some carve in softboots, but if they had the financial advantage would change, but until the real world meets up with the IDEAL world there needs to be some give and take. Work with me here, I'm trying to get to that point. I own a Madd now for Pete's sake! (not sure who Pete is but hopefully he'll tell you to back off a bit) My Madd has to be better than my 99 burton alp. I just want to be liked!!!! (sob) Edit: and before I came here I didn't even have the Alp. Baby steps Bobby!
  24. I am so sick of that word. Let's ban it. Edit: Can we stop discussing the car and talk about the driver?
