    Yo Lci!!

john - no guesses. i'm on a week to week schedule, and i don't see how loveland can be winter conditions this weekend since it's been warm since wednesday. not thrilling.

    Yo Lci!!

Wednesday snow report: definitely not winter snow. definitely not melt-freeze. i would call it funk-arama. definitely not easy carving.

    Yo Lci!!

john e -- i hear what you are saying about midweek, but i wouldn't give up weekends yet. i was there on sunday, and when l looked down at the parking at lot from lift 1 at 9:30 -- yes, 9:30 -- it was full. nevertheless, there was room for quality carving for at least 2 hours. richard's for example, was empty. so yeah, the numbers keep piling up at loveland, but there is still quality carving to be had.

    Beaver Creek!!!

mario - i have always said you are a man of impeccable taste. lydia - park at bear lot. will cost you $10.00, then take up the bus. the centennial quad is usually quality grooming. latigo is a good way to get there. . steep. rose bowl -- accessed from centennial quad -- is superb moderate riding and will mostly be in the sun. fun fun fun. post again before you arrive and the two of us who carve at bcreek may be around. cheers
  6. many thanks. i might be there thurs AM
  7. can't go but curious about conditions. can you comment on the coverage? thanks.

    Yo Lci!!

i should be able to get up during the week on a rotating schedule, once a week. that's the dream. i bought a full pass last spring, and am ready to roll.

    Yo Lci!!

john e - been a good, healthy summer. built a snowboard rack in my basement that is very wobbly, been getting in some quality mt biking, and am looking forward to another carving season.

yo kiteparsons -- i think the full pass is worth it because riding with a crew can really help your riding. in addition, it's good fun, because no knuckleheads are allowed. the idea is to have fun. the only problem is if you happen to get stuck in one of mario's trenches. anything goes at that point. and yes, i often can get out on wednesdays.
  11. i was at keystone this AM, which is fairly low in elevation, and the north facing slopes were still excellent, showing no signs of deterioration. as mario said, generally the higher the better. it can be melt freeze at keystone and winter at loveland / Abasin.
  12. hottronics. i have them in my carving boots, ski boots, AT boots, and soft boots. i do not find them to be a hassle; i find them to be a blessing. without them, i last maybe 2 hours at most temps. i also wear thicker socks. good luck. cold feet ruin my day.
  13. jeff - i agree with mario. loveland is a good price for some fine terrain and a great mountain feel. if you want to spend over $100, keystone mid week has some terrific carving. if you want to spend over $150, beaver creek has some terrific carving. i can often get out on wednesday AM, so send me an email if you get out here. i learned to ski at pat's peak in henniker; we can swap stories about ice, grass, and rocks. pcogan denver

mario - unfortunately, i think that is the future of riding in summit county. the horror show of vail or keystone is trickling down to loveland. i don't remember the lot being full; now it is full every weekend. i don't know of any solution except just ride mid week -- which isn't a solution say if you have a job. i see the day when weekend riding isn't going to be fun. it's a question of when. i'm angry and gloomy.

"negligent signaller" my role in the court case that started with a collision at loveland in 2011 is over. i was signalling a friend, and there was a collision, and there were injuries. my insurance company paid the woman involved a chunk of money, i assume so there would not be a trial. but who knows. my point: signaling is one thing we do to ride safely. however, no one seems to get that but us. if there is an accident and you are signaling, you may be sucked into a lawsuit. will i continue to signal? of course. safest way to ride.

    Yo Lci!!

keystone / loveland i'm not going to say that keystone is a nightmare and a possible blight on this earth. No, i'll stick to the facts. my boy had a ski lesson at keystone today, so i did some skiing. i have often said there is no ice in colorado. not true. keystone is covered in ice, caused by the thousands of skiers scraping all the snow off the trails. in addition, it is quite possible -- even likely -- that you will come over a rise, any rise, and find yourself looking down the hill at 30 skiers in various forms of disarray. all in the way. it can be different on weekends, admittedly, but weekends are fairly consistent. carving would be impossible. my point: loveland is a great carving mountain, and i try to keep in mind what a great place we have. cheers. pc

wed: good groom, and loveland looks poised to open more terrain, esp off 6. good riding with mr. danger.

    Yo Lci!!

sounds excellent. couldn't resist another day of mt biking. i'll be out there.
  25. 50+ and counting. Abasin posted a closing date of june 7. this year i am being sued as a "negligent signaller," and during my deposition the prosecuting lawyer asked me a question and i answered, "I don't know, but i can check the log." "The log?" he had no idea what i was talking about. "Yeah. I can tell you, since 1995 when i moved to colorado, every day i've been on a board, what board or boards i rode, who i rode with, and where i rode." what i love about this thread is all those folks who keep the log, who want to know, who, as the saying goes, take this shit seriously.
