  1. Nice riding guys. It's been an extremely slow season for me - only 8 days so far this season. i definitely won't be breaking 15 this season, and I won't be making any cool trips beyond Summit... I'm jealous, but, snowboarding has taken a back seat to a number of other more important things, and some new stuff that i'm finding more enjoyable - albeit, more expensive... hahaha

    Worried...

My stoke is back in tact for today. It was an awesome epic hero day. It's too bad it got crowded way too fast. I guess it was the crappy season/conditions that was killing my stoke. Still, I'm probably not going to get another day on the slopes for around 2-3 weeks - a whole bunch of other priorities that normally would have taken second seat to boarding... I guess my stoke is on a slight decline. It'll probably be my first season not getting 20+ days since I joined this site.
  3. epic carving day - hero conditions and blue bird skies. I had fun until about 10-10:30 before the place turned into a zoo. My head was on a swivel the whole time, good carving and awareness practice. Not a single close call for me, but I saw tons of close calls for a bunch of other people on the slopes. Damn, it was crazy packed. I got another good window around 11:45 to 12:20. I took off after that. I would have traded some crappier conditions for less people.... hahaha. Still, it was an awesome day. Tuesday should be nice if the temps can stay down a tad bit.
  4. Anyone going up? I should be there on chair 1 and then chair 7 and possibly a lot more chair 1 if the crowds are pretty thin. I'm filing for the day off...
  5. Long thread. I'll read through it tomorrow at work :eplus2: But, to add to this, I just got slammed into this past Sunday. My neck is still pretty sore and my upper/lower back was hurting that day. We both ended up being ok. I ALSO got hit by a skier - he was very apologetic and admitted that he was at fault. I came over a crest, glanced over my shoulder right as I initiated my toe side turn (all clear), and then WHAM!!!! he was going pretty fast and his choice based on the path he was taking was either the trees or me... the choice was pretty obvious. anyway, full face helmet FTW again this season.
  6. See avatar... now see picture below. I know, it's goofy/ugly looking and totally makes me look like a n00blet, BUT... full face helmet FTW!!!! It looks like my hands came out to save me - nope, didn't even get enough time to brace them - the chin guard of my full face went straight into the snow. The impact was so hard that my jaw (as in my face) hit the chin guard on the inside of my helmet. This is actually a downhill mt. biking helmet, which IMO is better than the vast majority of ski/snowboarding helmets since it has some sort of certification and testing to back it up. It can get a little bit cold with all of the extra venting, but then I just wear a very thin neoprene balaclava underneath it.
  7. They've been decent. So far, all the days that i've been up, conditions have held steady throughout the day. Mostly icy. I was up there last sunday (22nd) and it was pretty icy, and mostly stayed that way until I left. It did get a little bit softer, but no slushy. I've only been up 5 days this season so far. I'm not sure what it'll look like now with all of the warm weather we've had this week. i also don't know how much rain/snow this last storm dumped. I'm guessing you should expect lots of ice.

    Worried...

same, my stoke has kind of been waning... I still enjoy it, but if a race weekend comes up, I would much rather be out at the track. I've slowed down on buying gear by quite a considerable amount (and i'm glad too... hahaha). I currently only have 4 boards in my quiver that are NOT broken - and only two of them get used. This might be the first season for me to not get 20-25 days on the snow since I started hard booting. AND.... if things proceed as planned, I might not even buy a season pass next year and will likely only get half of my normal days in. And, as someone else put it, the 3-4 hour 170mile round trip is starting to wear on me too. The injuries aren't helping either - broken leg and more recently, torn labrum in my right shoulder (which I've been putting repair surgery on hold) since I started hard booting 5-6 years ago. Granted, if i had more time and money, I'd probably be up on the slopes quite a bit more. Waning stoke for sure - but that doesn't mean that I'm lacking by any means. I just had this crazy amount of stoke when I first started. I'm still working on my switch riding.
  9. -The bindings are from 2008 -They have around 20 or so days of riding on them (about 90-95% of my riding time is spent on hardboots) -It's a 4x4 hole mounting pattern (I don't think there was an option for the 3 hole system) -Spare parts (powerplate = $69, tooth straps = $19, extra hardware/screws = $39)
  10. I forgot to specify the size. It's the long plate for a larger foot. I wear a size mondo 28.5 hardboot and a size 11.5 Vans softboot.
  11. You'll be fine. You have plenty of injury catching up to do :smashfrea Just keep up with the PT and it'll all be good. You might even make it back out for the tail end of the season. I had a "scope" surgery back in college around November and made it to the slopes in January (that's when the season really started, not because I couldn't stand to go any earlier)... Anyway, GL and heal up quick.
  12. Hi all, I'm selling some Catek FR2s regular (NOT the pro with carbon high backs) with a bunch of extra parts. What's included -Bindings and hardware for mounting (obviously...) -A bunch of extra screws (see pictures) -Extra Power plate -extra ratchet straps Asking price is $220 PM me if you're interested. Pictures are below, thanks for looking. I drilled some holes in the back of my high back for a third strap binding - booster strap (see picture below)
  13. I'll be up there at the usual chairs - chair 1 at/before open 8am. Depending on crowds, I'll eventually move over to chair 7/10 by around 10am.
  14. You mean this one?? Where I do a tactical mid-air edge transition to my face and carve the snow with my chin guard???
  15. Nice shooting Andrea :biggthump Looks like I logged on at just the right time.
  16. Nice shots. better than anything i could have taken. thanks Mike.
  17. Yeah, since I didn't mention it in the last post. Thanks to Mike and Jenny for hosting and offerring their place for the after carving gathering. And thanks to Mike and Andrea for taking pictures.
  18. Today was great. I learned that full face helmets are totally worth it. I locked into a heel side carve, couldn't release, panicked, got base flat, stood straight up, *TRIED* to go into a toe side, and immediately caught an edge and face planted at a good clipping pace. It happened so fast that i didn't even get to put my hands out in front or anything. I got air born and landed on my face before anything else hit the snow. Helmet saved my face/chin/jaw/teeth - good investment.
  19. It was great seeing everyone one again and nice to put some faces to new names. It was an awesome day. For those of you that missed it, I won't rub it in too hard, but uhhhh today was probably one of the best days of the season so far and better than what you'd see at Mammoth, Heavenly, Mt. Hood, Mt. Bach, etc. etc.... (for now that is - what with our lack of snow/rain and temps being so high) What made it even better was the lack of crowds and the number of carvers on the slopes - we rutted up those runs. Good stuff, I'm looking forward to seeing more of you on the slopes again in the future.
  20. All of these guys must be loaded and filthy rich. How else would they be able to afford all of the custom built chairs they need to buy in order to accommodate their massive balls?!?!
  21. I'll see what i can do about cones. Aaron, I might need a ride up on Sunday if my truck isn't ready - fuel pump... I went up on Monday 1/2/12, and it was fine with me, didn't get slushy, but it was icy. My legs were jello by noon. My lower back is still a little bit sore right now - heh, i'm so out of shape.
  22. Anyone going up? I figured I'd get some runs in on Monday since my pass is no longer blacked out. I also need to dial in my setup a little bit. Anyway, looking forward to seeing everyone again on the 8th.
