  1. Conditions were super icy :1luvu: I had tons of fun. Set an edge in and rail rail rail!!! And no bleeding speed either. It's super fast and you can carve tight cut after tight cut and you don't lose your speed and momentum. It was non stop teeth gritting gforces the whole day. I got to practice some switch carving too. PAINFUL!!! haha, not the best conditions to slam down on. On the other hand, it was pretty easy to manage edges and not really catch them much. Terry, I'm gonna have to get more spinning pointers from you. That was some really nice edge to edge to edge 360 spining, or more like 1080s.
  2. Actually, to be honest - it's what happens when you don't wax at all and use the same $hit from the last 2 sessions you were up on the mountain with before :smashfrea:lol:
  3. Anyone going up? I was there yesterday (Thursday the 20th). It was a pretty icy day. Nice and fast , almost too fast, had to really be on top of your game. Miracle mile was closed, they were making snow on the entire run for the whole day. I went down that run. SUPER SUPER sticky and slow. Artificial snow is like putting the brakes on. I had the wrong kind of wax or something.
  4. Tinkler with snowstix and split nose and tail. There's probably nothing else out there like it (at least that's what I'm assuming). It easily commands the price of a Kessler with plate, etc. etc. - but it doesn't seem like Kessler will be disappearing anytime soon. I don't know I can say the same of Tinklers. It seems there's less talk of them these days on Bomber with the rising surge in the current New School board tech. It might not be completely New School and modernized for the race coarse, but I bet there's really no other ride out there like it.
  5. So true. Even when you're riding with other people, you're still sort of alone. I like both. While I wouldn't want to ride solo every single time, I have no problems riding solo. Oddly enough, every time I've gone out solo this season, i've run into other hardbooters. But, like others have said, riding solo definitely has it's advantages. I get to ride at my own pace (whether faster or slower), do what i want - take which ever runs i want, no need for coordination, no waiting/being waited on, take off late/early, stop for a beer at 9am, practice switch carving, etc. etc. I definitely enjoy the company when it's around though. I wouldn't want to ride everyday solo, but I definitely still have lots of fun riding solo and on occasion enjoy it more (it really just depends on the day and my mood).
  6. ^^^ Great news!!! Don't rush it though. You don't want to go back on to the slopes before you're ready and make the injury worse... For some of us there is no such thing as 100% back to normal, but at least try to get back to 90% or something (whatever normal might be... heh, I'm sure the norm has changed over the years). GL with the recovery.
  7. Yeah, you are a switch carving god!!! I've been practicing my switch carving on early morning hard pack - I've been getting the wind knocked out of me quite a bit... I can do heel side but have no clue wtf is going on once I go toeside.
  8. Edit: deleted everything after edit2... haha Edit #2: I need to work on my reading skills... 1 board metal, or 1 board glass+plate... answered as if maybe you had a glass quiver of 4+ boards.
  9. Yeah, you actually dodged the bullet with that one. Better to have your tire blow out on the way up to Mt. High and miss that one day than to have it blow out on the way up to June out in the middle of no where and miss the entire weekend.
  10. looks good guys. B0ardski - that looks awesome and dangerous at the same time. I could totally see impaling myself with my ski poles in my hands. I'll try this stuff out next week - i'm recovering from some minor out patient surgery right now. So, for the mean time, i'm internet/cubicle switch carving. Positioning from that picture and the videos will definitely be helpful. I'll drink a beer or two in the morning to help loosen me up and to prepare for more hard slams... I need to slow it down a bit more. I'm so used to going faster that the speed still seems fine going switch - that is until i catch an edge and slam down in some really awkward positions.
  11. That looks like Johnny (one of Erwin's friends). They (Brad and Johnny) usually ride on Fridays. I met them the last time I went up solo.
  12. Looks like i've got quite a few things to try out and work on. I'll try taking a day or two off of work so i can go on a week day with much fewer people around crowding the slopes.
  13. These two, taken by Andrea, are definitely my best photos. Now i gotta work on my toesides to even things out.
  14. it's looking like i might be cleared to go up next weekend.
  15. Later in the season. Gotta take care of the surgery first... oh yeah, and I'm sporting a new avatar. Of course, it's from a picture snapped by Andrea :D
  16. Everyone is looking good. It was definitely nice being able to see and ride with everyone. Hopefully this happens a lot more often. I'm guessing we should expect crowds to be something like this for the rest of the season (with the exception of holiday weekends), due to the road closure. Thanks for the top notch pictures Andrea :biggthump As usual, there's something to be learned from these pictures for me. I believe my heelsides are now stronger than my toesides - pictures seem to support that assertion. It looks like I gotta work on angulating my body away from the snow more and get my hips/butt out of the sky. The nice thing with toesides is that I can judge my distance from the snow much better without actually touching or reaching for it. Very useful session.
  17. On the West side, it was all about Conquest for me, and some other runs on the very far east side (of the West Mt. that is). Essentially, anything without terrain features is a nice run there. Night boarding is actually quite awesome at Mt. High - and they offer it everyday too, which is even better.
  18. Yeah, i've been going down quite a bit, and it's such an odd position to go down at. I'm usually slamming down on my shoulders actually. I can only practice it early in the morning since that's the only time Summit Run isn't crowded. Everything else is either too steep, or too narrow or both. Spinning isn't so bad for me. I can actually spin decently well - the decambered nose and tail help with not catching while doing this.
  19. I'm trying to get my switch carving down this season. I'm regular if that makes any difference (which it does for me). I can actually ride and carve large semi circles on my heel-side while riding switch, but it's because it's a lot easier to look backwards on that side and see where I'm going and what i'm doing. However, riding backwards/switch on my toeside is proving insanely difficult. I can't see where i'm going, what i'm doing, and can't figure out which shoulder to look over and how to position my body for riding switch on my toeside. For reference, I'm regular foot riding angles of 57/54 on a Coiler 23cm tight-vsr.
  20. hahaha. Yeah, bad pose Erwin. Robert is right behind Tai, just barely...
  21. Yeah, I ripped the inserts out of mine :( John was really cool about it though and gave a full refund on top of a little bit of extra cash (good enough for a decent dinner night) for all my troubles and the time.
  22. With the 330 closed and going the back way, you're looking at around 3 hours from HB.
  23. Stay indoors and drink coffee with bailey's and just stare out the window?? hahah, jk. Well, do that, and then go outside...
  24. Final roll call!!! Has anyone changed their mind and is now coming up or not going up anymore? I know Richard won't make it - he screwed up the dates. I saw him on the slopes yesterday. He won't make it tomorrow. OH yeah, and the conditions were great yesterday.
  25. I am :lol::lol: It's so sweet getting paid by your employer to do cubicle carving. I also do cubicle car racing at the other forum I frequent quite a bit. I've won both a gold medal in cubicle carving AND the 24 Hours of Le cubiclllleee Racing. I'd do cubicle jerking off too, but I think I'd be pushing my luck and get fired for that one. ****Sent from my cubicle with pride ;)**** Glad to have a job... hehe
